As I started to wear lipstick in my 20s, one of the first things I noticed was that I apparently had old lady lips. Lipstick would not stay put on me. It would bleed outside my lip line and collect in the crevices – not a pretty sight at all! (And yep, I tried lip liner, I tried setting powder, I tried concealer around the edges… nothing worked!)
The only thing that has worked for me (thank heavens) has been using some kind of a clear lip priming base or a clear lip liner. Clear lip liners are slightly different from a regular lip liner in the sense that they have more of a waxy, gel-like consistency that acts as a barrier around your lips to prevent your lipstick from bleeding outside the edges.
The No Bleeding Lips secret lip liner is one of these products and I put it to the test! No Bleeding Lips claims:
- Stops lipstick & lip gloss bleed (I did not try it with lip gloss!)
- Waterproof
- Long-lasting
- Stops feathering
- Free of: mineral oil, gluten, paraffin, preservatives & animal-derived ingredients
One of the benefits of a clear lip liner is that they’ll obviously match every single lipstick colour you possess!
So here it is in action: On the left side I applied No Bleeding Lips to the outer rim of my lips and applied MAC’s Russian Red lipstick on top (this is a lipstick that made my lip line bleed out profusely when I first purchased it). On the right side I just have lipstick on. The shot was taken five hours after application. I’d like to draw your attention to my top lip: Both sides are experiencing a little bit of bleed out, but the right side is definitely worse – you can see my lip line is becoming less defined and the lipstick is starting to spread upwards ever so slightly past my lip. (As for the bottom of my lip, I never experience bleed out there – what you’re looking at is just crummy lipstick application on my part!)
Final Thoughts
Does No Bleeding Lips work? Yes, it does. Does it work as good as I had expected? Not quite as there is still some visible lip line bleed out on the lined side of my lips. I’m actually surprised my lipstick didn’t bleed MORE outside my lip line on the un-lined side as I had expected a much starker comparison based on my previous experiences with unprimed lips. No Bleeding Lips will do me in a pinch and it’s definitely something I’ll use up completely, but I still prefer my MAC Prep + Prime Lips.
Let me know if you’ve tried this product out and what your thoughts were!
No Bleeding Lips can be purchased on Sephora.ca for $15 CAD.
The product featured in this post was sent to me for consideration.
Your lipstick still looks like this after 5 hours ? Wow ! Mine never lasts that long. Maybe it’s because I’m a teacher and I do a lot of talking ? 😉
I was wearing MAC’s Russian Red, a matte, which does last an incredibly long time on me. I do sit at a desk and really only have minimal speaking interactions with others, so that may be why your lipstick doesn’t last as long for sure! Lip primers do really help me throughout the day though!
I have!! I find the same, it’s good, it’s not AMAZING but I love that it matches with anything and it’s a pretty fool proof base :))
Totally – it’s the one lip liner I know I can match with ALL of my lipsticks (super handy since I really only have a red and a flesh tone lipliner…). I’ve been keeping it at work and it’s great for when I apply my lipstick after lunch!
Great comparison! The difference isn’t shocking but it’s definitely noticeable, I wonder if this works more on a lipstick that bleeds worse? I think it would be useful (or another similar product) for lipsticks although generally my issue is smudging more than bleeding if that makes sense, I feel likes some lipsticks just move around a lot !

I don’t know if my lips have changed in the last three years, but when I first bought MAC’s Russian Red, it bled EVERYWHERE. So that’s why I used it for this comparison (since I discovered MAC’S Prep + Prime for lips, I haven’t worn lipstick without it so I haven’t a clue what my other lipsticks actually do on my bare lips). The sad thing is that it’s not nearly as dramatic as it was in the past, so I don’t know if maybe the lipstick dried a bit?
Maybe your lips are REVERSE AGING?
I like that idea. Let’s stick with that one!!
hahah now that would be an awesome problem to have!
I tried the Rimmel version of this product sometime last year, and had similar results. It was ok, but not great. It’s such an interesting concept, though, and could be such a $$ saver if it worked really well. Imagine not needing a corresponding lipliner for every dark colour!

A few people have mentioned the Rimmel one to me now – I may have to take a peek at it in the drugstore at some point.
I need to give this a try. I’m the same as you, even in my early 20’s lipsticks would always bleed. Maybe that’s why I tend to steer clear of bold lip colours :/

That’s a really fair point – I struggle a lot less with neutral lip colours because I don’t have to worry about them nearly as much. My top recommendation would be using MAC’s prep + prime lips though – that stuff stops lip line bleedout completely on me. Just made sure you run it on the outside barrier of your lips and let it go tacky before applying lipstick.
I could tell which side was which before looking at the text, so it did a good job. 🙂 As you know, I usually go for MLBB shades so bleeding is not an issue for me (well, you can’t tell with those shades), but I’m sure I’d have some if I went with bolder shades. You should do a review on the MAC one you use.

Oh good! That gives me some relief cuz I felt like my picture wasn’t much of a good display of the product.
Yeah, MLBB shades are great for not looking like a mess if you smear it or it bleeds. Bold shades can be suuuuch a bitch with that!
I really should review the MAC one. Hmmmm… thanks for the idea!
Is the Mac prep and prime a clear liner, same idea? Or is it different?
It’s more of a lip primer (so it covers the entire lips). It applies the same as like… umm.. a slanted lipstick.
I have used this product and found it to be amazing. It’s the first I’ve tried but it really worked for my recently noticeable aging issues with lipstick wear.
