Without a doubt, the absolute best holiday packaging goes to Urban Decay‘s Vice 4 palette. Who DIDN’T get suckered in by that gorgeous oil-slick cover? Even more intriguing is the fact that everyone who bought this ended up with a different coloured lid. So unique!
I bought this because I HAD to have it, but unfortunately not a lot of the colours really spoke to me (swatches here). The warm shades, for sure, but those three greenish/aquaish colours in the middle? They’re so similar that I feel that two of them could’ve been omitted for other colours. You’ll see two looks in this collection of five that look absolutely identical to each other, and yet *completely* different colours were used!
Regardless, the usual Urban Decay eyeshadow quality is there in this palette! Buttery, pigmented as all hell and a pleasure to work with.
Urban Decay Vice 4 Looks
Normally I’d take both orange shades (bottom left of the palette) and call it a day, but I wanted to add something a bit different in this one so I added in the purple. It actually made the orange on the lid look a LOT more pink instead!
Eyes
- Flame all over the lid.
- Beat Down on the outer half of the lid.
- Bitter through the crease.
- Framed on the brow bone.
I created the wing with MAC‘s Blacktrack fluidline and applied Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara to my lashes.
Face
- Foundation: Yaby in Buff
- Bronzer: Bourjois Delice de Poudre
- Blush: MAC Petal Pusher
- Lips: NARS Rikugien
Using a shadow along the lash line has become a staple when I don’t know what to do with a particular colour (hence the pink!).
Eyes
- Arctic on the lid.
- Harlot through the crease.
- Pandemonium on the outer corner.
- Bones on the inner corner.
- Discreet on the brow bone.
1985 was used on the lower lash line and Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara was applied to my lashes.
Face
- Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla
- Bronzer: Soap & Glory Solar Bronze
- Blush: MAC Sea Me, Hear Me
- Highlighter: Soap & Glory Glow All Out
- Lips: Maybelline Color Blur in Berry Misbehaved
And this looks is dead similar to the one before it. The only real difference in the eyes is that there’s no pink on the lower lash line. And yet, I used totally different colours!
Eyes
- Grasshopper on the lid.
- Low on the outer half of the lid.
- Deadbeat to deepen up the outer corner.
- Grip through the top of the crease.
- Framed on the brow bone.
On my lashes is Make Up For Ever‘s Smoky Stretch mascara.
Face
- Bronzer: Too Faced Milk Chocolate
- Blush: Milani Coral Cove
- Highlighter: Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo #1
- Lips: MAC Burmese Kiss
Flash shots – sorry! Thankfully, I’ll have a ring light by the end of the month and won’t be relying on the power of the sun for my photos any longer! I wanted something a bit more neutral for this look.
Eyes
- Bones all over the lid.
- Robbery at the top of the crease.
- Delete on the outer half of the lid.
- Framed on the brow bone.
I created the wing with MAC‘s Blacktrack fluidline and applied Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara to my lashes.
Face
- Bronzer: The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder in 01 Light Matte
- Blush: Milani Tea Rose
- Highlighter: Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo #1
- Lips: Bite Beauty Custom Lip Lab shade
This was my FAVOURITE look I came up with out of this palette. I was looking at my previous pictures being like “aww man, nothing is THAT impactful”. So I started throwing some of the pink shades together and bam! IMPACT!
Eyes
- Fastball on the lid.
- 1985 on the outer half of the lid.
- Underhand on the outer corner and through the crease.
- Harlot at the very top of the crease.
- Framed to highlight the brow bone.
Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara is on my lashes.
Face
- Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
- Blush: Hourglass Incandescent Electra
- Highlighter: MUFE Pro Sculpting Duo #1
- Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait
I love how the first look look pretty neutral until you close yours eyes and then it’s all like “WHOOOOO COLOUR!”. That last look is SO AWESOME. I probably would never have picked the pinks to use because pinks make me go “meh” but it’s totally my favourite look of the bunch!

Hah! The “benefits” of hooded eyes? 😉
Totally with you on pinks. Not my first choice of colours, but it worked out in the end!
HA! Stupid hooded eyes…:P

Yep last is totally my favourite too! You did an amazing job with this… I feel inspired to actually try and use it now! 💕💕

Yay! Show me what you come up with!
THAT LAST LOOK. Totally worth the whole palette! I agree though, those two green looks end up the same. I’m still happy I went with the Spectrum, but great to hear the shadow quality is still awesome as always!

I needed a look that wasn’t going to be green-tinged!
I definitely think the Spectrum is a better choice over the Vice 4. There’s too many mid-tone purples/greys in this one for me.
I just love the packaging on this one even more! But yeah the shades are less inspiring.

Oh yeah the Vice packaging wins out over almost every other palette I own. Aside from this particular being gorgeous, the mirror is also huge and doesn’t flop all the way open!
Groan. I need this in my life.

Fairly certain it’s still available!
Ah, these are all so gorgeous! Love the first look especially- the purple and orange pair amazingly together. Loving the look of Artic and the way Fastball and 1985 look together too 🙂

I wish I’d gotten the lighting better for that first look, but yes, overall I love the orange and purple together!
OoOh maan! That last look 😍 Oranges and reds look fantastic on you but those pink shades are making your eyes absolutely GLOW! I’m a sucker for pink eyeshadows because it’s my favorite color. But then of course I don’t know what to do with them, whomp whomp. I think I’ll try something similar to this and see how it goes. Your looks are always such an inspiration Chelle!
Thanks Inday! Pinks make me a bit nervous since they can give you a bit of that “pinkeye” effect. You could always mix it with a black.. like pink on the lid and then black in the outer half of the lid.
I couldn’t resist getting this palette on sale + a coupon for less than USD$20! I had to revisit this post for inspiration and am excited to try the pink look, the third look with Grasshopper, and the neutral eye! Woo hoo!
I wish I had waited to buy it when it was cheaper. 🙁 It’s not a palette I reach for much which is kind of infuriating when I spent so much on it! Let me know how your recreations go!
Love the colors on you. Being in the over 45 age group , don’t think they will be too flattering and may enhance creepiness. Are any matte?
There’s really only about three shades in this palette that are actually matte. The darker orange (I forget the name offhand), Framed and Delete are all matte.
I’m 32 so I can’t speak to how they play out on older eyelids, but from what I’ve read and seen in YouTube videos – if you apply the shimmery shades on the lid and stick to mattes in the crease, you should be fine. I think the concern with shimmers through the crease on older lids is that it’ll reflect too much of the eyelid creases. That being said, wear what YOU like and you’ll always be happy with how you look. That’s just a general “rule” I’ve encountered when it comes to maturing skin.
Thank you for your comment!
So stunning! I just received this palette as an xmas gift and I am pumped. I know a lot of people didn’t love this palette but this is the first Vice that I was pretty excited to get.
I love all the looks you created, especially the first one! I’m definitely going to save this post to attempt to recreate haha.
I have to say I’m one of the ones that isn’t in love with it, which kind of sucks! I’m glad you’re excited for it though! 😀
Show me if you recreate it!!!
