I’m fairly new to Mary Kay makeup. My only lasting impressions of the brand was that it was always an Avon-type brand. You know the kind… where older women in your neighbourhood would have makeup parties and they’d all go through the catalogue together and pick out items they wanted to wear. They’d then place their order via their representative and wait for their products to get delivered. Since my recollections of this were from an eight year old perspective as I watched my mom take part in these things, the brand kind of became branded with a “that’s for old ladies” perspective. And while I think some of those memories still linger for me, I’m quite happy to try out a brand for the first time and see what *I* think about it, and not what my 8 year old self’s impressions are of it.
Well that was an intro and a half. Let’s get into this. As part of their spring collection, Mary Kay has released their Into The Garden collection (available now) and this Color Compact is part of that release. Florals for spring is hardly a new theme, but I know there’s a lot of women out there who appreciate the softness of pastels and gentle colours when it’s finally time for us to exit winter.
The Into The Garden Color Compact comes with four eyeshadows that all have a shimmery finish. The three lip colours are more of a gloss, but they do have some colour in them so they’ll help augment the colour of your lips.
The eyeshadows impressed me: they may all have the same finish, but they’re soft, easy to blend and the pigmentation is definitely there. There’s no chalky-ness to them and all four colours are highly complementary.
The coloured glosses stood out a bit more to me in this palette as they’re not shades I would expect to see paired with these eyeshadows. They also have a bit of glitter in them.
Here’s the look I put together using the Into The Garden Color Compact.
I used all four eyeshadows and the more coral-red lip shade.
I applied the taupe shade all over the lid, the deep, dark purple on the outer corner and through the crease. I lined my lower lash line with the vibrant purple and applied the soft pink shade to the inner corner. The look came out quite pretty, and yet dramatic enough for my tastes.
Let me know what YOU think of Mary Kay products! I was pretty impressed with the eyeshadows in this palette and would love to hear more about what you recommend from the brand.
The product featured in this post was provided to me for consideration.
I had the same thoughts- I remember my grandma giving me some Mark Kay products she didn’t use when I was young, so I’ve always referred to it as a mom/grandma brand!
I like the shades for this palette, the purple goes great with blue eyes. I’m not a gloss fan though so I’m not won over by those!
Great look 🙂

Exactly! I think Mary Kay is doing their best to rebrand their company and I hope to see much more from them in that department.
The eyeshadows were fantastic to work with in this palette. Very, very nice shades and easy to work with. I agree on the gloss factor though… I’m not much of a gloss person personally.
Eyeshadows (and other powder products) are definitely MK standouts for me. I wish this wasn’t a gloss and shadow palette though… The shades are really pretty though!

There is definitely some concern with the powder products getting into the glosses. Might’ve been better as two separate palettes (although less easy for travel then). Totally with you on the eyeshadows – they were a pleasure to use!
That eye look is so pretty and springy!

It helps a ton. It’s not always perfect…I do think a ring light + natural lighting looks better for product photos… but for face photos I’m totally fine with just the ring light. The reflective/sparkly background helps a ton though. If I use a flat white wall, it ends up looking dingy. At least with the sparkly background it reflects the light and makes everything look a bit more luminous!
Beautiful colours! I love the look you did with them! That is definitely a palette I would use a lot because of the purple. 🙂

Purple is the one colour that everyone seems comfortable wearing!
I don’t love the lip/eye colour together. I like the eye shadow colours, but would probably pair them with something lighter.
The lighter orangey gloss (it’s mostly translucent) might be a good option then!
Ohhh so pretty! I love the colors in the palette so much! The packaging is beautiful too, wowee. Mary Kay hit it out of the park!

Yeah the shadows were such a lovely surprise. Thumbs up!
Those colours looks stunning on you! Such beautiful eyes
Awww thanks Sam!
Love this! As a Mary Kay representative, I personally was very impressed and fell in love with this palette from the Into the Garden collection. It’s my favorite out of the entire new spring line. As far as other suggestions, Mary Kay’s Ultimate Mascara is to die for, the eyeliners are waterproof and STAY PUT and the Eye Makeup Remover is the best I’ve ever used. Takes everything off and is very gentle. If you want to try a skincare routine that will brighten up your skin, give the TimeWise Miracle Set a try. Those right there are all of my faves! 🙂
Thanks for all of the suggestions Rebecca!
For me I bought as a adult for the first time bought this palette and some for friends and some other things to me it cost to much and the fall out on the pretty eyeshadow and the lipgloss don’t hardly stay on with or without a primer
