Let me start off by saying this product actually confuses me a bit. I believe the Wet n Wild Velvet Matte Lip Colors launched as part of the Fergie Wet n Wild line in the USA (and were branded with her logo on it), but I got these here in Canada at a Wet n Wild launch party a few weeks ago. They’re missing the Fergie logo, and they seem to have totally different names when I compare them to the Fergie linup. I wonder if the rights to her line were only for the USS? I’m fairly confident that despite the shade names being different, they are in fact the same shades!
Regardless of their names, this is an entirely new set of products to me. Being the matte lip lover that I am, I was more than happy to try these out! The Velvet Matte Lip Colors come encased in a soft rubberized tube (similar to NARS packaging) and twist up from the bottom and can, thankfully, can be twisted back down. Although five of the nine shades look to be near identical in colour, I found that the colour of the packaging was SERIOUSLY misleading. If you can believe it, there’s actually a pinky-purple and a straight up magenta in there!
These have a soft matte feeling which is starting to become pretty standard for matte lip products. I did feel like some of the shades required a bit more pressure to be applied (almost as if I had to break through some kind of sheer coating to get through to the colour), but once I got there, the colour was fairly solid. Some of the shades were a bit more sheer (namely Lie Lack and Turnt Orange) and you’ll definitely be able to see that in the arm swatches. Overall, I’m impressed with the consistency of these especially given that the price point is around $3-4 USD/CAD.

Final Thoughts
You cannot go wrong with this kind of price point, especially if you want to try out a new lip colour! The texture is wonderful and if you like any of the colours above, I’d recommend checking them out! My personal favourite shades are Hickory Smoked, Turnt Orange (although it looks drastically different on my lips compared to the swatch) and Toffee Frappe.
The products featured in this post were sent to me for consideration.
I’d assume with a Canadian press event, the brand will be more hands on in our market. Any info on where/ when this new line is available?
No mention at the launch and I don’t remember seeing it in the press kit USB they gave us. I’ll double-check tonight when I get home though!
AH I love love lip crayons and the regular WnW ones are great so I’m excited to see these are great too. Especially love those neutrals Toffee Frappe and Looking For Truffle!

The neutrals were all surprisingly flattering on me. I think they chose the colours very, very well!
yeah I think there’s a great range even if it’s not obvious from the packaging!
Yeah the packaging is ridiculous. I almost didn’t grab all the browns because I assumed they were ALL the same shade!
Turnt Orange surprised the hell out of me on the lips, but it’s really pretty! All of these shades are surprisingly nice though. Wants. 🙂

I know. I’m still struggling to figure out how my swatch ended up so different from my lips. It’s possible it’s the lighting. Bah.
Maybe your natural pigmentation in your lips bled through a little bit to pink it up?

It’s possible, but I feel like some of it lighting. Not much I can do about it now… but it’ll annoy me for the rest of the day! 😉
Hickory Smoked is gorgeous on you!
Yes! That’s my favourite one!
They all look so pretty! I really don’t know which one I would go for, I guess it would depend on my mood when I’m standing in front of them, lol!

The best MLBB shade of course! 😉
its weird but these look sort of frosty (but they’re matte?) maybe its my eyes…

They’re definitely matte, but a few of them came off a bit more slippery on the lips, which I think makes them look non-matte.
I love the packaging! I’m definitely going to need to pick up a few since I loooove lipstick pencils.
They’re really handy on the go. Annnnnd I don’t break nearly as many bullets when they’re in packaging like this. haha
oh wow Looking For Truffle is so different on your lips than the swatch! Really pretty shades!
I think my lighting got a bit borked. I tried to fix it, but not sure I managed to get it done properly. :s
Are they completely matte? Some of them seem to be shimmery! Otherwise, I really love how these look on you. Definitely wish the packaging was a bit more true to color…

The last orange shade seems shimmery in the swatch, but it really is matte. It might look shimmery cuz it’s a bit more translucent than the rest? Just a though.
The packaging is totally messed up though. It looks like so many browns!
Omg Turnt Orange! How does that which craft even happen?!
Possibly my lighting. :s
Those look amazing !
The colour is amazing!
Where do i buy them in california
thanks
