Challenge Week: Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance

Anastasia Beverly Hills - Modern Renaissance

Yessss! OH YES! It’s time for my Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Challenge Week!

Anastasia Beverly Hills - Modern Renaissance

From the moment I saw this palette, I was EXCITED! Never before has easily accessible palette had so much red tones in it! I’m so happy to see brands branching out into far less conventional colours and red is definitely one of the most underused eyeshadow colours.

A note on the formula: I think the pigmentation, blendability and shades are excellent, HOWEVER this palette is incredibly powdery. Easily the most powdery palette I have. It works well, but it’s just something to be aware of. For swatches of this palette, please see my swatch post.

Although I love red eyeshadow, I don’t often use it on the lower lash line. For this look I decided to try that out while keeping the rest of the eyeshadow fairly neutral.

I sometimes go for the halo/spotlight look every now and again, but there’s something about it that I really don’t think works for me. I think it’s the darkness on the inner corner that I’m just not a fan of. Anyway, it can look really lovely on people, I just don’t think I’m one of them.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette is supposed to be a permanent product, but I’m struggling to find it on Sephora’s site! 🙁

    1. I usually try the halo look when I run out of ideas and it always LOOKS so nice on other people. On me it’s just ughhhh. I think I just prefer the pale lid, darker out corner and winged liner look overall… but that really doesn’t offer much diversity! Glad you like the looks – it was definitely a fun palette to play with. 🙂

  1. Ouuuuu so many good looks!!! Your favorite is totally my favorite too! I also really like the look with the plumy shade too, it isn’t as expected with a palette as warm as this.

    1. And I didn’t even go super neutral which you absolutely could do with this palette as well. You’re on a no buy for the summer though aren’t you? 🙁

        1. I can’t even imagine the cost of daycare. I’ve had some women here in Toronto tell me what it costs them and I’m just floored. I’m sure very city is different, but I think here it works out monthly to be my own salary! Like what the hell man…

  2. GORGEOUS!!!
I love all of these! I keep looking them over to find a favourite one, but they all have something unique that makes them stand out and I can’t choose a favourite.
I agree with you about the halo look, I feel odd when I have dark eyeshadow in my inner corner too, but on others it looks great – and you’re part of the others. 😉

    1. Oh maybe that’s it! I never thought of that! But you’re right, I tend to like halo eyes on people who have a sharp, defined crease!

  3. These looks are absolutely gorgeous! Definitely tempting me to buy the palette.

Do you have the Tartelette In Bloom by any chance? I would love to see one of these challenge week posts for that!

I just found your blog by the way and I’m so happy I found a fellow Toronto beauty lover while looking for Modern Renaissance looks 🙂

    1. ABH Modern Renaissance is definitely one of the best launches of last year. I’m so, SO glad it’s a permanent product!
I do not have the Tartelette in Bloom I’m afraid – it was a bit too neutral for me!
I’m so happy you enjoyed this post! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, Cheryl! 🙂
