Challenge Week: Urban Decay Vice 4

Urban Decay Vice 4 Challenge Week

Without a doubt, the absolute best holiday packaging goes to Urban Decay‘s Vice 4 palette. Who DIDN’T get suckered in by that gorgeous oil-slick cover? Even more intriguing is the fact that everyone who bought this ended up with a different coloured lid. So unique!

I bought this because I HAD to have it, but unfortunately not a lot of the colours really spoke to me (swatches here). The warm shades, for sure, but those three greenish/aquaish colours in the middle? They’re so similar that I feel that two of them could’ve been omitted for other colours. You’ll see two looks in this collection of five that look absolutely identical to each other, and yet *completely* different colours were used!

Regardless, the usual Urban Decay eyeshadow quality is there in this palette! Buttery, pigmented as all hell and a pleasure to work with.

Normally I’d take both orange shades (bottom left of the palette) and call it a day, but I wanted to add something a bit different in this one so I added in the purple. It actually made the orange on the lid look a LOT more pink instead!

Using a shadow along the lash line has become a staple when I don’t know what to do with a particular colour (hence the pink!).

And this looks is dead similar to the one before it. The only real difference in the eyes is that there’s no pink on the lower lash line. And yet, I used totally different colours!

Flash shots – sorry! Thankfully, I’ll have a ring light by the end of the month and won’t be relying on the power of the sun for my photos any longer! I wanted something a bit more neutral for this look.

This was my FAVOURITE look I came up with out of this palette. I was looking at my previous pictures being like “aww man, nothing is THAT impactful”. So I started throwing some of the pink shades together and bam! IMPACT!

  1. I love how the first look look pretty neutral until you close yours eyes and then it’s all like “WHOOOOO COLOUR!”. That last look is SO AWESOME. I probably would never have picked the pinks to use because pinks make me go “meh” but it’s totally my favourite look of the bunch!

    1. I needed a look that wasn’t going to be green-tinged!

I definitely think the Spectrum is a better choice over the Vice 4. There’s too many mid-tone purples/greys in this one for me.

        1. Oh yeah the Vice packaging wins out over almost every other palette I own. Aside from this particular being gorgeous, the mirror is also huge and doesn’t flop all the way open!

  2. OoOh maan! That last look 😍 Oranges and reds look fantastic on you but those pink shades are making your eyes absolutely GLOW! I’m a sucker for pink eyeshadows because it’s my favorite color. But then of course I don’t know what to do with them, whomp whomp. I think I’ll try something similar to this and see how it goes. Your looks are always such an inspiration Chelle!

    1. Thanks Inday! Pinks make me a bit nervous since they can give you a bit of that “pinkeye” effect. You could always mix it with a black.. like pink on the lid and then black in the outer half of the lid.

      1. I couldn’t resist getting this palette on sale + a coupon for less than USD$20! I had to revisit this post for inspiration and am excited to try the pink look, the third look with Grasshopper, and the neutral eye! Woo hoo!

        1. I wish I had waited to buy it when it was cheaper. 🙁 It’s not a palette I reach for much which is kind of infuriating when I spent so much on it! Let me know how your recreations go!

  3. Love the colors on you. Being in the over 45 age group , don’t think they will be too flattering and may enhance creepiness. Are any matte?

    1. There’s really only about three shades in this palette that are actually matte. The darker orange (I forget the name offhand), Framed and Delete are all matte.

I’m 32 so I can’t speak to how they play out on older eyelids, but from what I’ve read and seen in YouTube videos – if you apply the shimmery shades on the lid and stick to mattes in the crease, you should be fine. I think the concern with shimmers through the crease on older lids is that it’ll reflect too much of the eyelid creases. That being said, wear what YOU like and you’ll always be happy with how you look. That’s just a general “rule” I’ve encountered when it comes to maturing skin.

      Thank you for your comment!

  4. So stunning! I just received this palette as an xmas gift and I am pumped. I know a lot of people didn’t love this palette but this is the first Vice that I was pretty excited to get.

I love all the looks you created, especially the first one! I’m definitely going to save this post to attempt to recreate haha.

    1. I have to say I’m one of the ones that isn’t in love with it, which kind of sucks! I’m glad you’re excited for it though! 😀

Show me if you recreate it!!!
