essence mosaic blushes (Review + Swatches)

essence mosaic blushes

essence has finally launched their mosaic blushes in Canada! With a $3.99 USD price tag, an embossed pattern with different shades and the ability to purchase online at essencemakeup.com, you’re going to be struggling to not fall head over heels for these guys!

Although Europe has a slightly larger shade selection (four in total), North America will have to do with the two shades we have available to us:

  • All You Need Is Pink (the uh… more orange one)
  • The Berry Connection (the pink one)

At first swatch, I found that the pink shade was a lot more powdery in texture than I had anticipated. I had to build it up to get the swatches you see above.

I’m not sure if these face swatches above help (since they’re not full face shots), but there you have it. I found that overtop of foundation these blushes performed better (shots above are the blush on my bare skin) because they had something to grip to. On bare skin, these did not perform very well at all.

Overall, I felt the blushes were a little too powdery and not enough pigmented for my own personal taste. It was a bit odd because I wore this occasionally and I thought it looked fine, and then sometimes I wore it and I felt kind of “meh” about it. I prefer essence‘s regular line of blushes (their Silky Touch ones) a lot more in terms of pigmentation and performance, so if I was going to steer you in the direction of a well performing and inexpensive blush, that’s what I’d suggest. These mosaic blushes are pretty to look at, but they just didn’t live up to their beauty I’m afraid!

Swatch Sunday: Laura Mercier Artist 2013

Laura Mercier 2013 Artist Palette

Although my version of this Laura Mercier palette was part of the 2013 holiday releases, I can happily say that the brand re-released this exact same palette (albeit it in different packaging) about a year later. I’m so, SO happy that they decided to make it a permanent product because this palette is GLORIOUS!

Easily one of my favourite palettes ever, the Laura Mercier Artist palette is full of beautiful neutrals with some purple tones. This was my first introuction to Laura Mercier shadows and as you can see by the dirtiness/used looking quality of my palette, I have loved the heck out of this thing!

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner & Purifying Body Wash

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner and Purifying Body Wash in Sea Kelp + Nourishing Oatmeal

I’ve been a fan of Aveeno skincare for so long that I’m honestly starting to wonder if I’m ever going to find a dud product by them. (And nope, this isn’t a post where I find a bad apple either!) As we dive into the cooler months, I’m all for trying out new products, so I was more than happy to test out some new-to-me Aveeno products!

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner
Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner

The Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner are sulfate-free (and yet the shampoo still lathers up which I really appreciate) and are infused with seaweed extract. The seaweed extract is there to help cleanse your hair without over-drying it. And as far as shampoos and conditioners go, I was happy with this which is really all I’m looking for in my shampoo and conditioner. My number one complaint with any hair product is that if it weighs it down, I’m not going to like it, and this definitely did not do that. My hair was smooth and soft after use and it didn’t feel weighed down. I also enjoy the clean, fresh, slightly green scent of both products.

AND… I love the shape of the bottle. I can turn them upsidedown without having to worry about them toppling over in the shower. I know it’s a small detail, but that makes me a really, really happy camper when I’m in shower!

Thumbs up for both of these!

The Aveeno Purifying Body Wash with sea kelp and nourishing oatmeal is yet another body wash to add to my list of favourites that Aveeno creates (their Skin Relief is my number one favourite body wash EVER). The intent with this particular body wash is that it combines ingredients from the land and sea to flush away impurities. Like the Pure Renewal shampoo and conditioner, this body wash has a faintly green aquatic scent that is definitely unisex. The scent is refreshing in the morning when I’m trying to wake myself up from the previous night’s slumber!

So there we have it… Aveeno has once again failed to produce a less than stellar product! Seriously guys… I’ve been in love with this brand for so long that I really don’t think I’ll ever find a bad product by them! 😉
