What’s On My Face – Volume 48

So the sad reality is that I actually haven’t done a “What’s On My Face” since July of last year! I know why though… it’s a combination of YouTube pretty much becoming the better visual format for a makeup tutorial, but also because Challenge Weeks seem to interest people a lot more than a random assortment of looks. (I get it – it’s easier to work from one palette instead of a whole pile of them.)

Anyway, on with the looks!

This one actually dates back to May 2016 – I wore it in my Makeup Geek Favourites video (and those recommendations still hold true!).

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Unexpected through the upper crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Blacklight on the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Pop Culture on the outer half of the lid.
  4. Makeup Geek Duchess on the outer corner.
  5. Makeup Geek Phantom on the inner corner.
  6. Makeup Geek Baby Face on the brow bone.

I created the wing with Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper and lined my lower water line with Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer. I coated my lashes with Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and the popped on a pair of House of Lashes Noir Fairy false lashes.

Face

  • Foundation: Revlon Colorstay in Buff and Nude
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Urban Decay Bittersweet
  • Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Crushed Pearl
  • Lips: Inglot AMC Lip Gloss in 541

I love, love, LOVED how this look came out. It was very orange based because I was wearing all black to a NYX Halloween event last year.

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee through the top of the crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Chickadee on the inner third of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Poppy on the middle third of the lid.
  4. Makeup Geek Razzleberry on the outer third of the lid and pulled through the crease.
  5. Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie on the inner tearduct.
  6. Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean on the brow bone.

I used Lit Cosmetics’ California Soul glitter to line my lower lash line and used Marc Jacobs’ Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer on the lower water line. I created the wing with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper and coated my lashes with Urban Decay‘s Perversion mascara. I’m also wearing a pair of Lashlorette fake lashes by Esqido.

Face

  • Foundation:  Boots No7 Instant Radiance in Cool Vanilla and Warm Ivory
  • Bronzer: NYX Fire Island Tan
  • Blush: Not sure – I didn’t write it down!
  • Highlighter: BECCA Champagne Pop
  • Lips: MAC Barbecue

Just an eye look for this one because… uh… the lips were that beautiful tarte Fairytale shade (the teal one), but I hadn’t retouched them and by the time I took photos they looked atrocious. I had thought they looked okay so I filmed an entire video with them… and it’s really just ghastly. (You’ll be able to see how bad it looks in tomorrow’s video though.) I did love the eye look though!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork through the top of the crease.
  2. MAC Stars n Rockets through the crease.
  3. tarte Fairy on the outer corner.
  4. Too Faced Gliterally on the lid (it’s the same as the discontinued Too Faced Blue Fire glitter if you have that).
  5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit – Blue Ice on the inner tearduct.
  6. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.
  7. MAC Steamy layered on first, with MAC Parfait Amour on top.

I used the ARTDECO High Precision Liquid Liner to create the wing and lined my lower water line with MAKE UP FOR EVER‘s Aqua XL Liner in  M-26. I coated my lashes with tarte‘s Tarteist Lash Paint mascara and applied a pair of Ardell 811 Faux Mink lashes.

A look using the warmer shades in the Juvia’s Place Masquerade palette! I’m wearing this look in my Sephora VIB Sale + Ulta Haul video.

Eyes

  1. Juvia’s Place Cairo through the crease and on the lower lash line.
  2. Juvia’s Place Casablanca on the lid.
  3. Juvia’s Place Ada to deepen up the outer corner.
  4. Juvia’s Place Dahia on the inner tearduct.
  5. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

(Ignore the 7 – it was a mistake!) I created the wing with MAC‘s fluidline in Dipdown and coated my lashes with essence The False Lashes Dramatic Volume Unlimited mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way in Porcelain
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach
  • Highlighter: MAC Whisper of Gilt
  • Lips: Coloured RainedElectric Rain

And that’s it! Hope you enjoyed the roundup!

Swatch Sunday: tarte Make Believe In Yourself

tarte Make Believe In Yourself

tarte blew up the internet with their Make Believe In Yourself collection (aka the Unicorn collection) and I originally told myself I didn’t NEED this palette.. but you know how that goes! During the Sephora VIB sale I picked up this palette and I was ended up being pretty pleased with it!

The one thing that needs to be pointed out though is that this is a VERY shimmery palette. There’s only one matte in there so your overall looks are going to be very blingy. If you’re looking to add some dimension to your overall look while using this palette – make sure you grab a matte palette to help you out (neutrals or vibrants!).

As a heads up though… it is limited edition – so get it while you can! On sephora.ca it’s $52 CAD and on sephora.com it’s $40 USD.

If you’d like to see me play around with this palette, there’s a talk through tutorial of it on my YouTube channel:

On to the swatches!

tarte Clay Pot Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liners (Review & Swatches)

tarte Clay Pot Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liners

I’ve accidentally turned this blogging week into tarte week! But I ain’t mad about it because they make some absolutely glorious products. Today’s post is all about these beautiful bright coloured gems – the Clay Pot Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liners.

tarte actually makes one of my favourite gel pot style eyeliners ever (which can be evidenced by my absolutely decimated empty of it from a post a few years back), so I was really excited to try out their brightly coloured versions as well.

Sephora has these listed as a limited edition item that is available only online (just in case you were looking in stores).

How much fun are these colours? I’m especially in love with Crystal Ball which has an a ridiculous amount of sparkle and sheen to it, Lucky Penny which is just an absolutely stunning melted copper colour and Blue Moon which is electrifying!

I was really, really pleased with how well Prom Queen came out on the eye. I had been a little bit skeptical based on my swatch, but it came out beautifully!

Wearing Crystal Ball

Crystal Ball floored me. This is like the ultimate glitter liner without it being in a wet and sticky formula. I wore it alone, so you can see there is plenty of pigment in the product, but I bet this would look incredible on top of a black liner.

Wearing Lucky Penny

Another favourite! Lucky Penny is the kind of shade that screams my name and I loved how it looked as a winged liner. I’ve never used a colour like that for a wing, but I’m 100% sold on this look now!

Wearing Margarita

Sadly, my Margarita pot was a little it dried out which made application a bit difficult. I also found that this shade flaked off my eyes a bit throughout the day. I attribute this to the dryness in the product from an improperly sealed lid as opposed to being inherent to the product itself though.

Wearing Bubblegum

I’m not sure how often I’m likely to wear a hot pink liner, but for those of you looking for one – look no further! Bubblegum is the perfect name for this hot pink beauty.

Wearing Blue Moon

Blue Moon is another favourite! Intensely pigmented and such a standout shade.

I’ve included a close up shot so you can see what the texture of the liner can look like. Because of the brightness of the shades, this will emphasize some lines around your eyes. Unlike with a black or a brown which masks any kind of lines, you will find that brighter colours will display that texture a bit more. I’m not personally concerned with it because that’s just the nature of skin – but I thought some people would want to be aware of it.

Final Thoughts

Aside from the slightly dry Margarita shade, there really isn’t a dud in the formula of the tarte Clay Pots. I do find them overall a bit less creamy than the black version, but I think that’s perhaps part of the coloured pigment base. That being said, I love these so, so much. They glide on the lids smoothly and they all have fantastic colour payoff which means you aren’t going back over your liner multiple times in order to get maximum intensity. I love how vibrant and bold the shades are – it makes me so happy!

My personal picks are Lucky Penny, Blue Moon and Crystal Ball. In particular, Crystal Ball is unlike anything I’ve ever seen in a gel pot format so I love how unique it is!

The tarte Clay Pot gel liners can be purchased on sephora.ca for $25 CAD each or on sephora.com for $21 USD. The Canadian site has wayyy more shades available by the way!

tarte Quench Lip Rescue – Full Collection (Review & Swatches)

Wearing tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue

tarte definitely hit the jackpot when they released their range of “Rainforest of the Sea” products! We’ve seen SO MANY launches in that collection over the last year or so, and it’s not hard to see why we’re all so attracted to them: the packaging is glorious, the colours and formulas are wonderful. But there’s SO MUCH of it that it can be hard to figure out what you want to try out first!

So… may I recommend these Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue Lip Balms?

The Quench Lip Rescues are fundamentally a lip balm that pack a very tiny pigment punch.  They’re infused with an antioxidant and vitamin-rich lip quencher that’s powered by a blend of essential extracts and oils while providing a protective antioxidant barrier against daily aggressors. (And they’re also vegan!)

The packaging is cardboard, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m really quite into it. Each shade comes with its own special unique packaging with a different colour and foiled print. (The colours on the outside do not reflect the product inside.)

Swatched out, you can see there’s some pigment, but you’re mostly left with a super glossy sheer coat of goodness. The balms do have a minty smell, but I don’t feel like that caused any tingling on my skin (as some peppermint infused products do).

Final Thoughts

I’ve had the shade Rose since forever ago and am almost halfway through that tube because I love it so much! So when the rest of the shades showed up in a PR package from tarte… well… I was OVER THE MOON!

The Quench Lip Rescues are ultra hydrating balms that give my lips such a glossy-wet look that I really adore. They feel absolutely glorious when you swipe them on your lips – buttery, soft and slick. For me, these are an easy product to grab and go when I don’t want to be fussing with my lip colour all day. These are a huge, HUGE win for me, and if you want to see me talk more about them, you can check out my April Favourites video!

The tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue lip balms can be purchased on sephora.ca for $23 CAD or on sephora.com for $19 USDsephora.com for $19 USD.
