Bite Beauty – Mimosa (Limited Edition)

201509_bitebeauty_mimosa1

For the last few months, Bite Beauty has been releasing limited edition 250 point perks at Sephora. September’s shade was Mimosa and I snagged it in one of my recent Sephora orders.

The 250 point perk come with a mini lipstick, a mini lip gloss and a pocket sized mirror. Each package is themed around a single colour, so you end up getting a corresponding lipstick, gloss and mirror.

The Mimosa lipstick is all kinds of amazingess. It’s a orangey-red and has the typical “Wild Berry” scent that Bite‘s lipsticks have. Mimosa has a luminous creme finish and glides onto the lips easily. The colour is absolutely incredible, plus… you can’t go wrong with a name like Mimosa!

Having never tried a Bite lip gloss before, I was intrigued to find that their gloss has a citrus scent. The Mimosa gloss mimics the colour in the lipstick and holy smokes is it ever pigmented! I couldn’t believe just how much colour is packed into that gloss.

Aren’t those swatches incredible? There’s so much colour in both the lipstick and the gloss!

The tiny pocket mirror has turned out to be handy too. I didn’t actually have a small mirror I could carry around with me that looked decent enough to take outside my apartment so I’m pretty happy to have this cute little one.

Mimosa is the kind of shade of red that I absolutely love wearing. I feel like it’s similar to Revlon‘s Fire and Ice (another favourite) although I’ve not compared them side by side. It’s an easy red to wear – not only because it looks gorgeous, but also because it sits on the lips really, really nicely.  Unfortunately, Mimosa is a limited edition shade, so if you want it, be sure to snatch it up! I think I’ll be picking up the full size because I’m completely enamoured with the colour.

I’m curious to see what colour Bite Beauty will release next month! Last month was Bellini, a gorgeous neon pink shade, so I kind of feel like they’re sticking with the drink names. Maybe Sangria is next? Hmmm….

Swatch Sunday: Too Faced Star Dust by Vegas Nay

201509_toofaced_vegasnaypalette1

The Too Faced Star Dust by Vegas Nay palette is a recently released limited edition palette that is available only via Ultra or Too Faced’s web site (which kind of makes it a US exclusive). I had it shipped to a friend that I met up with recently in New York City, so that’s how I managed to get my hands on it!

I don’t normally post reviews with Swatch Sundays, so I’ll be brief because I want to get this out there – this is an EXCELLENT palette. One of the best I’ve ever seen Too Faced put out! It’s not a permanent product, so if you have the ability to get your hands on it, I would urge you to go out and get it as soon as you’re able. The Too Faced Star Dust by Vegas Nay palette is an absolute stunner and I’ll have a Challenge Week posted sometime this week featuring it as well.

Swatch Sunday: Maybelline Smokey Cinnamon

201509_swatchsunday_maybelline_smokeycinnamon1

Limited edition for fall a few years back, this is Maybelline‘s Smokey Cinnamon quad. I remember this collection of quads being in short supply in Canada and having to hunt them down amongst the drugstores accessible to me. The formula in the Smokey Cinnamon quad is just as good as the first one I bought and the colours are gorgeous!

Swatch Sunday: My Inglot Mattes Palette

201509_swatchsunday_inglotmattes1

Inglot‘s matte shadows are some of the absolute best on the market and it’s nice that they come in such a wide variety of colours. I created this palette in March 2014 in New York City (several months before they opened their store in Toronto!) and loved pulling together such vibrant shades. I knew I wanted all bright mattes at the time because I was on neutral overdose at the time and wanted something to brighten my mood.

Clinique Cheek Pop in Cola Pop (Review + Swatches)

201509_cliniquecheekpop_colapop1

Consider this another edition of “bloggers made me do it”. I’ve been aware of the Clinique Cheek Pops for quite a while, but had never actually purchased one. That embossed flower design was enough to send many, many beauty addicts into a blush buying tailspin, but I held off because I’ve started to come to the conclusion that there isn’t really anything unique in terms of blush shades anymore, so why do I really need another one? Then Jen of Vibrant, Vivacious, Veracious Beauty Blog posted about Cola Pop, and I was sold. (I don’t know what it is about Jen’s posts, but she always seems to find something unique that makes me want to purchase it as well!)

Clinique‘s Cheek Pop blush in Cola Pop ($27 CAD) is a dark, burnt red blush that probably looks frightening to more than half my readers, but to me, it screams amazingness. Obviously you don’t wear blush at full strength, so try not to let the pan shade frighten you.

What I’m loving about Clinique‘s Cheek Pops is that the company seems to have gone from a very dated metallic plastic look (I could never get on board with Clinique because of their packaging, how terrible is that?) to a very modern thick acrylic packaging. The Cheek Pops come encased in a very solid acrylic compact that shows you the colour of the product right out of the gates.

Of course, many of us beauty addicts are suckered in by the beautiful imprint on the product, but I find the imprint is actually functional since it helps my brush to pick up the product from the compact.

Swatched at full strength, I felt like this blush was screaming my name. I mean, look at that dark red! It’s gorgeous! But bear with me, here’s how it looks on the cheeks when blended out appropriately:

See? Way less terrifying. As we approach fall (thank god, I’m so sick of this heat – I will forever be a fall and winter woman at heart), this is the exact kind of colour I want hugging my cheeks.

I love the soft red-pink flush it gives my cheeks. At the risk of sounding basic, it gives that “cold weather” flush that I always want on my cheeks, particularly since I don’t actually flush that nicely at all from the cold!

As with most blushes, I don’t notice any issues with longevity, and this will definitely last the entire work day on me (which is about 10 hours including my commute before I take my makeup off). I’m impressed that Clinique came out with such a gloriously dark shade and it could definitely be built up to be more intense if you have darker skin (as per my swatch!). For once I feel that Cola Pop is a totally unique shade of blush and I’m happy to have added it to my collection!
