Challenge Week: Cargo You Had Me At Aloha

When I first laid eyes on this palette somewhere on Instagram, I knew I HAD TO HAVE IT! The mix of colours in Cargo‘s You Had Me At Aloha palette was unique and interesting to me. Sure, a turquoise is pretty common for summer palettes, but it was the addition of purples and a bright yellow that really intrigued me. (For swatches, please see my Swatch Sunday post.)

If you’d like to pick up this palette, the only place it seems to be available now is at Kohls for $34 USD (it sold out everywhere else!).

I knew right away I wanted to play with the bright turquoise and the purples, so I combine the two for my first look. Overall, I like the eye look, but I’m not keen on the lips. Next time I’d definitely pair it with a more purple lip colour.

Eyes

  1. Waikiki through the crease.
  2. Kai on the lid.
  3. Lei through the crease.
  4. Luau on the outer corner.
  5. Hula on the inner corner.
  6. Hapuna on the brow bone.

I created the wing with the Physicians Formula Eye Booster and applied tarte‘s Tarteist Lash Paint mascara to my lashes. I lined my lower water line with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua XL Liner in the shade M-26 and applied a pair of
tarte Center of Attention lashes.

Face

  • Foundation: Charlotte Tilbury Wonder foundation in 4.5
  • Bronze: QUO Matte Bronzer in Light Tan
  • Blush: QUO Blush Duo in Just Blush
  • Highlighter: Stila Heaven’s Hue in Kitten
  • Lips: Lise Watier Olivia

I wanted a warm crease (and really, that’s basically the only option in this palette) paired with purple eye.

Eyes

  1. Waikiki through the crease.
  2. Shell on the lid.
  3. Shaka on the outer half of the lid.
  4. Hula on the inner corner.
  5. Hapuna on the brow bone.

I applied tarte Tarteist Lash Paint mascara to my lashes.

Face

  • Foundation: Charlotte Tilbury Wonder foundation in 4.5
  • Bronzer: Too Faced Sweethearts Bronzer in Sweet Tea
  • Blush: Kat Von D Shade + Light Blush Piaf and Poe
  • Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Aurora Glow Kit – Lyra
  • Lips: Soap & Glory Sexy Motherpucker in Raplumzel

The yellow was really calling to me in this palette and since I hadn’t done any neutrals looks yet, I decided to pair it with the browns.

Eyes

  1. Waikiki through the crease.
  2. Kona through the bottom of the crease.
  3. Hibiscus on the lid.
  4. Tiki on the outer corner
  5. Hapuna on the brow bone.

I created the wing with the Physicians Formula Eye Booster and applied tarte‘s Tarteist Lash Paint mascara to my lashes. I also have a pair of Kiss Poise fake lashes on.

Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 52 Vanilla
  • Bronzer: Revlon Bronzed and Chic
  • Blush: Can’t remember – sorry!
  • Highlighter: tarte Spellbound
  • Lips: Revlon Snow Peach

More purples!

Eyes

  1. Waikiki through the crease.
  2. Lei on the lid.
  3. Luau on the outer corner and through the crease.
  4. Shell on the inner corner.
  5. Hapuna on the brow bone.

I created the wing with the Physicians Formula Eye Booster and applied tarte Tarteist Lash Paint mascara to my lashes.

Face

  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way in Porcelain
  • Bronzer, Blush & Highlighter: Elizabeth Arden FourEver Bronze Bronzing Powder
  • Lips: Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Oil in Coral

By the time I got to this look, I was getting a bit stumped for colour combos outside of the usual neutral shades that most people would play with. I like how it came out overall, but I would’ve not added that extra shade in the crease because I think it muddied the look a little bit.

Eyes

  1. Waikiki through the crease.
  2. Island on the lid.
  3. Kai on the outer half of the lid and through the crease.
  4. Luau to deepen up the outer corner.
  5. Hapuna on the brow bone.

I created the wing with the Physicians Formula Eye Booster and applied tarte Tarteist Lash Paint mascara to my lashes. I also have on a pair of House of Lashes lashes, but I can’t remember what kind they are!

Face

  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way in Porcelain
  • Bronzer: QUO Matte Bronzer in Light Tan
  • Blush: essence Autumn Peach
  • Highlighter: BECCA Champagne Pop
  • Lips: Bite Honeycomb

What’s On My Face – Volume 48

So the sad reality is that I actually haven’t done a “What’s On My Face” since July of last year! I know why though… it’s a combination of YouTube pretty much becoming the better visual format for a makeup tutorial, but also because Challenge Weeks seem to interest people a lot more than a random assortment of looks. (I get it – it’s easier to work from one palette instead of a whole pile of them.)

Anyway, on with the looks!

This one actually dates back to May 2016 – I wore it in my Makeup Geek Favourites video (and those recommendations still hold true!).

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Unexpected through the upper crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Blacklight on the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Pop Culture on the outer half of the lid.
  4. Makeup Geek Duchess on the outer corner.
  5. Makeup Geek Phantom on the inner corner.
  6. Makeup Geek Baby Face on the brow bone.

I created the wing with Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper and lined my lower water line with Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer. I coated my lashes with Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and the popped on a pair of House of Lashes Noir Fairy false lashes.

Face

  • Foundation: Revlon Colorstay in Buff and Nude
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Urban Decay Bittersweet
  • Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Crushed Pearl
  • Lips: Inglot AMC Lip Gloss in 541

I love, love, LOVED how this look came out. It was very orange based because I was wearing all black to a NYX Halloween event last year.

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee through the top of the crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Chickadee on the inner third of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Poppy on the middle third of the lid.
  4. Makeup Geek Razzleberry on the outer third of the lid and pulled through the crease.
  5. Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie on the inner tearduct.
  6. Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean on the brow bone.

I used Lit Cosmetics’ California Soul glitter to line my lower lash line and used Marc Jacobs’ Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer on the lower water line. I created the wing with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper and coated my lashes with Urban Decay‘s Perversion mascara. I’m also wearing a pair of Lashlorette fake lashes by Esqido.

Face

  • Foundation:  Boots No7 Instant Radiance in Cool Vanilla and Warm Ivory
  • Bronzer: NYX Fire Island Tan
  • Blush: Not sure – I didn’t write it down!
  • Highlighter: BECCA Champagne Pop
  • Lips: MAC Barbecue

Just an eye look for this one because… uh… the lips were that beautiful tarte Fairytale shade (the teal one), but I hadn’t retouched them and by the time I took photos they looked atrocious. I had thought they looked okay so I filmed an entire video with them… and it’s really just ghastly. (You’ll be able to see how bad it looks in tomorrow’s video though.) I did love the eye look though!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork through the top of the crease.
  2. MAC Stars n Rockets through the crease.
  3. tarte Fairy on the outer corner.
  4. Too Faced Gliterally on the lid (it’s the same as the discontinued Too Faced Blue Fire glitter if you have that).
  5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit – Blue Ice on the inner tearduct.
  6. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.
  7. MAC Steamy layered on first, with MAC Parfait Amour on top.

I used the ARTDECO High Precision Liquid Liner to create the wing and lined my lower water line with MAKE UP FOR EVER‘s Aqua XL Liner in  M-26. I coated my lashes with tarte‘s Tarteist Lash Paint mascara and applied a pair of Ardell 811 Faux Mink lashes.

A look using the warmer shades in the Juvia’s Place Masquerade palette! I’m wearing this look in my Sephora VIB Sale + Ulta Haul video.

Eyes

  1. Juvia’s Place Cairo through the crease and on the lower lash line.
  2. Juvia’s Place Casablanca on the lid.
  3. Juvia’s Place Ada to deepen up the outer corner.
  4. Juvia’s Place Dahia on the inner tearduct.
  5. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

(Ignore the 7 – it was a mistake!) I created the wing with MAC‘s fluidline in Dipdown and coated my lashes with essence The False Lashes Dramatic Volume Unlimited mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way in Porcelain
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach
  • Highlighter: MAC Whisper of Gilt
  • Lips: Coloured RainedElectric Rain

And that’s it! Hope you enjoyed the roundup!

Challenge Week: Urban Decay Afterdark

Urban Decay Afterdark

Finally! I’m finally getting my Urban Decay Afterdark Challenge Week up!

Urban Decay Afterdark
Urban Decay Afterdark

Let’s state the obvious: this is not a standalone palette. You’re going to have to bring in some other shades/palettes if you want to create a cohesive look. For these looks I did my best to stick to the palette without adding much else, but since there are no matte shades, I beg forgiveness from you guys because I had to pull in a crease shade and a matte brow bone highlight!

Urban Decay Afterdark Challenge Week Looks

I wasn’t really sure where to start with this palette, so I opted to start with… a lot. It turned out very sunset inspired!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork in the crease.
  2. Supersonic through the crease, layered pretty much on top of Cork.
  3. Sinful on the lid.
  4. Paralyzed on the outer corner.
  5. Alter on the inner corner.
  6. MAC Blanc type on the brow bone

On my lashes is Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: THEFACESHOP Water Cushion in Apricot Beige
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Cargo Mendocino
  • Lips: Bite Pepper

I really, REALLY like the mix of colours in this look. I put it together quickly because I was heading to work, so the look is a little unfinished in the end, but man do I ever love the way these colours look together!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork through the crease.
  2. Backdrop through the crease.
  3. Lounge on the lid.
  4. Paralyzed on the outer half of the lid.
  5. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

On my lashes is Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: Maybelline Dream Velvet in 10 Porcelain Ivory
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Urban Decay Bitter Sweet
  • Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Blue Ice
  • Lips: Urban Decay Ex-Girlfriend

ANOTHER solid colour mix! I’m also totally matchy-matchy because my shirt AND backdrop match the eyeshadow!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork through the crease.
  2. Fringe through the crease.
  3. Backfire on the lid.
  4. Paralyzed on the outer half of the lid.
  5. Scene on the inner corner of the eye.
  6. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

I created the wing with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and tightlined my upper and lower waterlines with the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer. I coated my lashes with Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara and popped on a pair of Esqido false lashes (probably Lashlorette, but I didn’t write it down so not positive).

Face

  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way in Porcelain
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Urban Decay Bittersweet
  • Highlighter: Kat Von D Alchemist – Blue Saphyre
  • Lips: Clinique Crayola Chubby Stick in Mauvelous

This one was a bit of an experiment. The palette does have some shades that can be used to make a neutral look… but I still wanted some colour in there so I threw the pinky-purple in the crease. The end result is still very neutral though!

Eyes

  1. Backfire through the crease.
  2. Scene on the lid.
  3. Off Duty on the outer corner of the lid.
  4. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

I created the wing with MAC’s fluidline in Dipdown and coated my lashes with Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: Maybellime Dream Velvet in 10 Porcelain Ivory
  • Bronzer: The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 01 Light Matte
  • Cheeks: Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach
  • Lips: Fresh lip balm in Rose

By the time I got to the fifth look in this Challenge Week I was seriously running out of ideas. So I tried to reverse the shades I would normally use in different areas and I think it turned out okay! (For example, I almost never put a red like that on the lid – I usually put in the crease. And vice versa for the purple!)

Eyes

  1. Druggie through the crease and used to line the lower lash line.
  2. Supersonic on the lid.
  3. Backfire in the outer corner.
  4. Scene on the inner corner.
  5. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

I created the wing with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and applied Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara to my top and bottom lashes. I also lined my lower water line with MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Aqua XL Pencil Liner in M-92.

Face

  • Foundation: MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD liquid in Y225
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Stila Convertible in Twilight Rose
  • Highlighter: Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette – Ultra-Violet Amethyst
  • Lips: Tarte Color Drench in Happy

Let me know if you picked up this palette and what colour combinations you’ve come up with that you’ve loved!

If you want to snag it, the Urban Decay Afterdark palette is $59 CAD on sephora.ca and $49 USD on sephora.com.
