Skincare Saturday: Bioderma’s Hydrabio Range

Bioderma Hydrabio products

If you’re unfamiliar with Bioderma‘s Hydrabio products, let me have the pleasure of taking you through a tour of some of their products! The Hydrabio range is intended for dehydrated sensitive skin and contains the Aquagenium patent which stimulates the skin’s cellular capacities and reactivates its natural hydration process to the upper layers of the skin.

Bioderma Hydrabio H2O micelle solution
Bioderma Hydrabio H2O micelle solution

The product that first introduced me to the Hydrabio range was their H2O micelle solution. I had been using (and still do) use the Sensibio/Crealine micelle solution (that’s the one you see most often with the pink cap!), but when the weather gets colder in Toronto, I wanted something a little bit more hydrating and the Hydrabio line delivers on that. The other huge upside for me is that the Hydrabio range has a scent that is really clean and fresh.

So, if you’re not familiar with a micelle solution (also often referenced as micellar) is a cleansing and make-up removing water. I don’t personally find it strong enough to remove long wearing foundation and waterproof mascara, but I find this impeccable for removing all other traces of makeup. I’ll usually remove my makeup with an oil based remover, and then I’ll go in with this micelle solution to clean up all the extra bits. It hydrates, cleanses and refreshes my skin all at the same time. Even if you’re not wearing makeup, this is excellent for just re-vivifying the skin when you need a bit of a pick me up. Throw a few squirts on a cotton pad, swipe it all over your skin and you’re good to go!

The Hydrabio H2O used to only be available in the 250 ml version, but I can happily report that you can now get it in a 500 ml bottle as well!

Bioderma Hydrabio Creme
Bioderma Hydrabio Creme

If you’re looking for a heavy duty face cream, look no further than the Hydrabio Creme. The Creme is targeted towards people with dehydrated sensitive to very dry skin with a lack of radiance. I don’t find myself on that extreme end of the dryness spectrum, but I can say that this one feels incredibility luxurious on my face. I use it on my face as an overnight moisturizer when I really need to pack in the moisture (which is something I tend to need if I’ve been wearing foundation too many days in a row). It’s a small jar, but you don’t need a ton!

Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Creme & Serum
Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Creme & Serum

To round out my Hydrabio routine, I’ve got the Gel-Creme and the Serum.

As you found expect, the Gel-Creme isn’t as thick of a cream since it does have a gel base. While it’s still great for dry skin, it’s also targeted towards combination skin since it’s not quite as thick. I use this in the morning on days when I don’t feel like something a intensely moisturizing as thick cream, and I’ll interchange it with whatever other moisturizers I’d currently be using it (like Aveeno, etc.).

And lastly, their Hydrabio Serum. Serums are something I’ve only recently started to understand in my beauty routine and I’m not quite sure I notice an immediate difference in my skin with them, so it’s a bit of a take it or leave it step for me. I started using this particular Serum last winter when my skin needed the added boost of moisturizer and I felt it did help me out (it was also before I had more of the Hydrabio range so I needed to amp up my regular moisturizing routine), but it’s not something I reached for during the warmer months. As we’re headed into the colder months up here in the Northern Hemisphere, you may want to look into something simple like a Serum in order to augment your current moisturizers!

If it wasn’t already hyper-obvious, I’m an huge enormous fan of Bioderma and their Hydrabio range is a staple for me in the colder months. A lot of skincare can leave me going “meh, it’s fine, but do I love it?”, but Bioderma is definitely a true love for me in terms of skincare.

Even if you’re not into the dry skin products, you may want to check out their range since they do offer products for varying types of skin. If you’re Canadian, the Bioderma range is easily accessible via Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall! Skincare Saturday: Rodial Bee Venom Collection

Rodial Bee Venom Collection

Just in time for the holiday season, Rodial is releasing a few luxury skincare gift sets this month! I’ve been trying out their Bee Venom Collection because it sounded the most intriguing. I’ve never ever had something like bee venom in my skincare before!

Rodial Bee Venom Collection
Rodial Bee Venom Collection

The Rodial Bee Venom Collection was created to “rejuvenate the skin for a youthful looking complexion. Bee venom works in synergy with a unique complex of plant stem cells to help visibly improve skin tone and elasticity and plump out appearance of lines and wrinkles.” The “melittin peptide bee venom plumps and firms wrinkle appearance stem cells help improve skin elasticity biomimetic growth factors smooth skin surface appearance marine collagen helps reduce look of lines and wrinkles marimoist® provides immediate and sustained hydration”.

It comes with a Bee Venom Moisturiser (50 ml), Bee Venom Super Serum (30 ml), and Bee Venom Eye (25 ml). The whole kit comes in one large box with all three products inside. The two moisturizers are boxed individually within the larger box. The entire line cautions that if you are allergic to bee stings you should avoid using this line of skincare. All three products can be used daily.

Rodial Bee Venom Moisturiser
Rodial Bee Venom Moisturiser

The Bee Venom Moisturiser is an “extreme performance cream for mature skin with melittin peptide, stem cells, biomimetic growth factors and vitamin c”. It’s a medium thickness cream that smooths onto my skin really easily. It’s hydrating, but not overly thick which is an enormous blessing since I’m really over moisturizers that just won’t sink into my skin!

Rodial Bee Venom Eye
Rodial Bee Venom Eye

The Bee Venom Eye cream seems to be a thicker formulation of the moisturizer, although it does contain bee venom further down on the ingredient list. Although I don’t personally feel like I need a separate eye cream (I’m not especially dry in that area), I do like the ritual of applying a thick cream to that area and gently rubbing it in.

Rodial Bee Venom Super Serum
Rodial Bee Venom Super Serum

The item I’ve enjoyed the most out of this set was the Super Serum and sadly it’s the smallest product! Ack! I’ve been applying this before my moisturizer and it seems to work well under ANY brand as far as I can tell. It’s not too thick, not too thin and sinks in within a few minutes of application.

I was trying to pin point the scent of these products, and I realized it was kind of hard to do since two of the products smell the same, but the serum definitely doesn’t! The serum smells more like a floral perfume to me, whereas the moisturizers smell faintly alcoholic to me. Weird thing to say, but I can’t really pinpoint any other scent!

The Rodial Bee Venom Collection can be purchased at Murale and Shoppers Drug Mart for $180 CAD.

Skincare Saturday: Live Clean Body Washes

Live Clean Body Washes

You know what’s really, really nice? When you’re introduced to a product, love it, and then discover that it doesn’t break the bank at all!  And that’s exactly what’s happened with these gorgeous Live Clean body washes – they’ rich and foamy, the bottles are ENORMOUS (seriously – there’s 500ml per bottle!) and they’re on well.ca for just under $8 CAD each!

Live Clean Body Washes
Live Clean Body Washes

Live Clean introduced their line of body washes to the world six years ago. The brand is entirely vegan with no animal products (or even by-products) in their formulations. They’re also eco-friendly and are committed to having as little environmental impact as possible. They’re also completely void of SLS/sulfates, phthalates, petrolatum, silicone, dyes, parabens, DEA and phosphates!

The top three favourites that the team at Live Clean love the most are:

  • Coconut Milk: I love this one because it has a glorious rich and creamy scent that veers on the less tropical side of things for a coconut scent. It’s more of a warm coconut scent than a beach vibe (if you know what I mean) and I quite enjoy that different take on a coconut scent!
  • Fresh Water: I’m all over any kind of aquatic scents so I knew I was going to love this just by looking at the blue water logo on the front of the bottle. And sure enough – I’m in love!
  • Exotic Nectar: This is the scent that really made me fall in love with Live Clean. I was over at Julie‘s place and got a whiff of these and I was totally stunned by the scent. Their main scent is argan oil and I am NOT a fan of that smell at all – but there’s something about the way this scent is blended that is extremely pleasing to me.

And, lastly,  brand new to Live Clean‘s range is their Vanilla Oatmeal scent. I personally smell a lot more of the oatmeal side of things with a hint of vanilla. While the three scents I mentioned above are more summer scents in my mind (although I’ll gladly use them year ’round!), this Vanilla Oatmeal one is the kind of warm, inviting scent I want to be using during the cooler months.

You can find a wide range of Live Clean‘s body washes on well.ca, but they’re also sold at Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, London Drugs and Amazon!

So what about you? Have you tried Live Clean products before?

Skincare Saturday: Zoella Soak Opera & Fizz Bar

Zoella Beauty Soak Opera and Fizz Bar

Although I’ve never been a regular viewer of Zoella (I really don’t think I’m her target audience since I’m over the age of 30), it’s incredible to look at the stats that this woman possesses:

  • 14 million YouTube subscribers with 49 million views per month.
  • All of her social media following is well into the millions with Facebook being the lowest at 2.6 million likes and Instagram being the highest with 7.2 million followers.

So needless to say, it’s not surprising that she would come out with her own range of bodycare. When I look at the line of products and the way they’re packaged, it has a very young girl appeal with a hint of grandma elegance. I didn’t even know that was a thing, but that’s the best way I can think to describe these items!

Zoella Beauty Soak Opera
Zoella Beauty Soak Opera – $11.99 CAD

Zoella‘s Soak Opera (*love* the name) is a bath soak and shower cream filled with vitamin E, shea butter and aloe extracts to soften and condition your skin. I used this as body wash and found that it lathered up well and did the whole “make me clean” thing just fine. As a bubble bath, it gave me a few bubbles, but not as much as I would want (which is like… a LOT.). What intrigued me the most about this, aside from the clever name, is the fact that the product is scented completely unlike what I had expected. Based on her audience, I was really expecting this product to be sugary sweet, almost like some kind of confection. Instead, it’s a more adult (verging on grandmotherly, seriously) flowery fragrance that I was really not keen on at first sniff. But then I kept smelling it, and using it, and I found my nose was actually quite into the scent, even though it was something I’ve never gravitated towards before. Perhaps it’s because amidst the intense floral potpourri scent, there’s also an edge of freshness that keeps my nose rejuvenated.

I also think the price point is incredibly fair. At a suggested retail price of $12 CAD for 490 ml, you’re getting almost double what a place like The Body Shop would give you for almost an identical price tag.

Zoella Beauty Fizz Bar
Zoella Beauty Fizz Bar

You’ll find a slightly stronger potpourri scent in Zoella‘s Fizz Bar. This block of bath fizzers can be broken down into eight individual cubes, or use however many you’d like to toss into your bath. I opted to throw in two cubes per bath because I was really liking the scent of her products by the time I got around to testing this Fizz Bar!

Zoella Beauty Fizz Bar
Zoella Beauty Fizz Bar

The Fizz Bar didn’t go up in smoke as soon as I dumped it into my bath – it was more of a slow release product. I didn’t find it did anything especially amazing to my bath – more of a scented bath really for when you want to spend a bit more time lounging and watching YouTube. The price tag for this one is around $10, which, I’ll repeat, keeps her beauty line in a really reasonable price range.

Zoella Beauty products are sold in select stores in Canada including Londong Drugs, Pharmasave, Lawtons, Familiprix, IDA, Guardian, Brunet and Uniprix. To see a full listing of product available in Canada, please check out FarleyCo’s web site.

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner & Purifying Body Wash

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner and Purifying Body Wash in Sea Kelp + Nourishing Oatmeal

I’ve been a fan of Aveeno skincare for so long that I’m honestly starting to wonder if I’m ever going to find a dud product by them. (And nope, this isn’t a post where I find a bad apple either!) As we dive into the cooler months, I’m all for trying out new products, so I was more than happy to test out some new-to-me Aveeno products!

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner
Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner

The Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner are sulfate-free (and yet the shampoo still lathers up which I really appreciate) and are infused with seaweed extract. The seaweed extract is there to help cleanse your hair without over-drying it. And as far as shampoos and conditioners go, I was happy with this which is really all I’m looking for in my shampoo and conditioner. My number one complaint with any hair product is that if it weighs it down, I’m not going to like it, and this definitely did not do that. My hair was smooth and soft after use and it didn’t feel weighed down. I also enjoy the clean, fresh, slightly green scent of both products.

AND… I love the shape of the bottle. I can turn them upsidedown without having to worry about them toppling over in the shower. I know it’s a small detail, but that makes me a really, really happy camper when I’m in shower!

Thumbs up for both of these!

Aveeno Purifying Body Wash with Sea Kelp + Nourishing Oatmeal
Aveeno Purifying Body Wash with Sea Kelp + Nourishing Oatmeal

The Aveeno Purifying Body Wash with sea kelp and nourishing oatmeal is yet another body wash to add to my list of favourites that Aveeno creates (their Skin Relief is my number one favourite body wash EVER). The intent with this particular body wash is that it combines ingredients from the land and sea to flush away impurities. Like the Pure Renewal shampoo and conditioner, this body wash has a faintly green aquatic scent that is definitely unisex. The scent is refreshing in the morning when I’m trying to wake myself up from the previous night’s slumber!

So there we have it… Aveeno has once again failed to produce a less than stellar product! Seriously guys… I’ve been in love with this brand for so long that I really don’t think I’ll ever find a bad product by them! 😉
