Raise a hand if The Body Shop was your first introduction to bath products as a young teen? They sure were for me. I have fantastic memories of picking up soaps and shower gels and thinking I was the absolute coolest person alive because I was buying “adult” products with my baby-sitting money. (Oceanus was my scent back in the day, White Musk was my best friend’s – oh the memories.) Satsuma, to this day – verging on twenty years later, is still a staple of mine.
Good grief is this ever a lot of pre-amble to tell you there’s a new collection out! Say hello to Virgin Mojito (which my friends and I pondered as to why it was called “Virgin Mojito” and not just “Mojito”… we came to the conclusion that The Body Shop didn’t want anyone trying to drink this thinking it was full of alcohol. But I digress.) Virgin Mojito is described as “refreshingly fragranced with a twist of zesty lime and the scent of fresh mint”. I get more lime out of this scent than mint (although there’s definitely still mint in there) which made me a happy camper since I have a penchant for citrus. Virgin Mojito is the kind of scent you want to wear in the summer – it’s not heavy and it doesn’t have that overly perfumed scent to it. It’s a “clean” sort of scent and one that’s easy to wear because it’s not too intense. Put simply, Virgin Mojito is refreshing.
The Body Shop Virgin Mojito – Body Butter and Body Sorbet
The products I’m most familiar with in any lineup are the Body Butter and the Body Sorbet. The Body Butter has the usual consistency – it’s thick, moisturizing and feels wonderfully luxurious. The Body Sorbet, which I think less people are familiar with, is the fun one to use. It has a frothy, half-whipped gel-like feeling. It’s more of a lightweight moisturizer which makes it quick and easy to use since it absorbs into the skin quickly. Body Sorbets are total winners in my book.
The Body Shop – Virgin Mojito Body Scrub
The Body Scrub is new to me. This particular scrub is a gelatinous goo (it’s fun!) that has smaller beads suspended within the goop. This will exfoliate your skin, but it’s not a super intense sandpaper-y feel like some scrubs. I’m a morning shower person (unlike Jenn – if you have no idea what I’m talking about, please go read this post and prepare to laugh) so the scent of Virgin Mojito mixed with a nice scrub in the mornings? Completely energizing.
The Body Shop – Virgin Mojito Body Splash and Shower Gel
The Body Splash is another new product to me. It’s not overly perfumed, so it won’t last a super long time, but it’s got enough of a kick to it that it’s great for splashing on yourself if you’re headed out to the beach and don’t want to smell like sunscreen. Or after I play soccer and am going to head out for food afterwards.
The Shower Gel is your typical shower gel that lathers easily and scents your skin for a little while after your shower. I’ve used The Body Shop‘s shower gels for about two decades now and they never fail me.
Kolme checking out the new products
So if mojitos are your favourite drink, or you like the scent of lime and mint, or you really just need something new to try for the summer, I’d say you can’t go wrong with Virgin Mojito. This scent is limited edition, so once the summer runs out it’ll be gone – snatch it up quick!

Back in March, I tried out a scrub by the Canadian company Jealous Body. Their Coconut + Coffee scrub was incredible – it left my skin feeling super moisturized and gave me a huge lift in the morning since it made my whole bathroom smell like coffee!
Now, Jealous Body is back with four new scrubs that target a variety of different skin types. If you were on the fence about the coconut one, you may find something else you’re looking for in the new ones.
Jealous Body: Grapeseed + Macadamia and Cocoa + Almond
I received the Grapeseed + Macadamia and the Cocoa + Almond scrubs to try out. Each scrub comes in a water resistant bag, and, for those worried, it’s fully waterproof on the inside since it’s lined with plastic and has the most intense ziploc seal I’ve ever encountered in my life – that shit means business. Each bag contain 200g of product and lasts me about 4-5 showers.
The Grapeseed + Macadamia scrub is best for oily prone skin (great for summer!) and contains:
fresh robusta coffee grounds (stimulate blood flow which help reduce the appearance of cellulite, eczema, stretch marks, age spots, varicose veins, psoriasis and acne)
macadamia nut oil (helps with anti aging of your skin and balances oil production)
raw brown sugar & sea salt (exfoliates)
vitamin A, E & minerals (protects and repairs skin)
Jealous Body Scrub
The Cocoa + Almond scrub is best for all skin types and contains:
fresh robusta coffee grounds (stimulate blood flow which help reduce the appearance of cellulite, eczema, stretch marks, age spots, varicose veins, psoriasis and acne)
cold pressed 100% natural sweet almond oil (relieves dryness and skin irritation and improves your complexion)
macadamia nut oil (helps with anti aging of your skin and balances oil production)
cocoa powder (antioxidants that will repair your skin cells)
raw brown sugar & sea salt (exfoliates)
vitamin A, E, D & minerals (protects and repairs skin)
Although I didn’t try the other ones, there is also an Almond + Coffee scrub (for dry & normal skin) and an Almond + Macadamia scrub (for dry & mature skin).
Scrubbing down with Jealous Body
The application is the same with these scrubs as with the previous ones: Get in the shower, get wet, grab a healthy handful of the scrub and start rubbing it into your skin. Let the product soak into your skin for ten minutes or so, then wash it off.
As with the original scrub, both of the new ones left my skin feeling soft and supple. I don’t notice a difference between the two new ones I received (nor do I notice a scent difference – they both smell of glorious, glorious coffee), but I will say that I found the original Coconut + Coffee scrub to be overall more moisturizing, likely due to the coconut oil. However, both new scrubs are still so moisturizing that I don’t feel the need to moisturize my entire body with a separate product afterwards.
Overall, I feel that these scrubs are incredible, and I’m glad that Jealous Body has expanded their line because it gives customers with specific skin needs a product that will help them target their individual skin concerns. These all natural scrubs are definitely worth checking out, particularly if you love the smell of coffee!
The products featured in this review were provided by PR for consideration.
This isn’t a review where I dissect a product and determine what I like about it so much as it is a rave review about a product I’ve used daily for over a decade. I don’t often mention products that I use daily (except for one post last year called “The Unmentionables“) because really… it just gets boring. No one cares if you use the same cleanser, moisturizer… because that information almost never changes if you’ve found a holy grail product.
And this Marcelle makeup remover is my holy grail.
Marcelle Gentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes
The MarcelleGentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes has been my makeup remover of choice for going on ten years now. I’ve seen this blue bottle go through several iterations of the cap (it looked like a short, fat pom-pom for a while, then they switched it to a (horrible) flip top that spurted out way too much liquid), but it’s perfect just how it is now. It has a small spout where you can tip the bottle over and apply as much as you like to a cotton pad before swiping it on your eyes.
Marcelle Gentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes
So why do I love it so much?
Well, it’s a bi-phase makeup remover which means it’s got enough power to remove your waterproof mascara and hard to remove liquid and gel liners. This sucker will take ANYTHING off. Over the years I’ve heard a lot of people complain about some liners and mascara being difficult to remove (I’m looking at you BenefitThey’re Real!), but this has managed to obliterate anything and everything I’ve ever applied to my face. As with these bi-phase removers, I do get a bit of a film over my eyes after I’ve removed my makeup. I know this can be disorienting to some people, but after years of using this, I barely even notice it anymore. (I’m only mentioning this since it can be a super important detail to some people, however I do not consider this an issue as I’ve found that all waterproof makeup removers do this.)
It’s formulated for sensitive skin so this never leaves me feeling dry or itchy. And for those who monitor that kind of stuff, this remover is also paraben and perfume free, and suitable for contact lens wearers.
I’ve often tried out both high and low-end makeup removers just to see if there *is* something better out there. There isn’t. I keep coming back to this. It’s typically about $15 CAD at the drugstore, which is getting a bit up there I suppose, but you can always wait for a sale, or when they have a larger bottle promotion that has 33% more in it for the same price as the regular size (which I’ve featured in this post).
If you’re looking for a new makeup remover, I can’t recommend this enough. I will continue to purchase this bottle whenever I run out and I’ve *always* got a backup in my closet. And since Marcelle is a Canadian brand, it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I’m supporting something within my own country!
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a person that is big into skincare. My general requirements are that my fairly good skin remains in that condition (or better!) and that the product I’m using smells good. Aside from that, I really don’t care what I use, or how often I use it.
And yet… I’m always curious. There’s always something new to try and see if it gives me that “lightbulb over the head” moment when I use it.
Jealous Body Scrub likes to get you into the shower asap
And I may just have found something.
Jealous Body sent me their scrub to try out and I was intrigued, but not like… super excited about it. I mean it’s a scrub, there’s only so much excitement you can pack into a scrub right? When I researched the company, I found that Jealous Body‘s advertising is adorable and sexy all at the same time. They treat the scrub as though it’s a real person, ready and waiting to strip you naked, get you into the shower and lather you in their goodness. It’s an incredibly cute marketing technique – their Instagram is full of pictures of hot women (although they’re all of a rather limited body type) either basking in the sun, lounging in tropical areas, or getting frisky with their scrub. It’s an alluring image and definitely one that works well to entice a customer.
Using the Jealous Body Scrub
So I did as the scrub instructed me to: got naked, jumped in the shower, and covered myself in the coconut-oil infused ground coffee. The scent was intoxicating. Fresh roasted coffee mixed with coconut, what isn’t there to love?
I covered myself in the scrub, rubbed it in and let it sit for the ten or so minutes they want you to wait. It definitely created an absolute disaster at the bottom of my shower (think toddler with several mud patties), but it easily washed down the drain after I rinsed off.
Covered in coffee grinds and coconut oil… be still my heart.
I continued to smell of coffee after I’d toweled off and it lasted for several hours afterwards (which is a good thing in my books). The coconut oil left my skin feeling soft and supple for hours afterwards – so much so that I didn’t need to use a body moisturizer at all that day.
Jealous Body claims that their scrub can reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks, amongst a host of other things. Despite having both of those, I can’t speak to that efficacy of the product in that regard as I’ve not had the opportunity to use it for several months. What I can say is that this scrub is incredible. I smelled and felt absolutely wonderful after my shower and that feeling lasted for hours.
The scrub contains 100% natural ingredients (ground coffee, cold pressed coconut oil, sea salt, raw brown sugar, vitamin E and minerals) and are made in Vancouver, Canada. There is no added fragrance and should be fine for sensitive skin. One bag of product will run you $17.95 CAD, but there’s free shipping within Canada and the US (HUGE BONUS!). If you live external to those two countries, you’re looking at a shipping cost of $3.95 CAD.
And now, the fun part!

In November I was invited to attend a blogger event at Miracle 10 in Yorkville, Toronto. I was surprised as I’m really a blogging nobody. My site is barely a year old and I can’t imagine my traffic is that high enough to warrant any kind of attention… But I was thrilled and confirmed that I’d love to attend.
Now, I’m not much of a skincare person. Oh sure, I remove my makeup, wash my face and moisturize. Every now and again I’ll use a Biore pore strip or a facial mask. But fundamentally? Skin doesn’t interest me that much. Without trying to sound too narcissistic, I think it’s because I’ve been blessed with fairly healthy skin. I very rarely get breakouts – frankly I can’t even remember the last time I even had one. Additionally, the tone and texture of my face has never bothered me as it’s predominantly smooth. Oh sure I’ve got some darkish undereye circles, but we all have those. I’ve got some redness, but whatever, so do we all. I’ve got some burgeoning wrinkles, but those also don’t perturb me. What I’m trying to say is I’ve never really cared about my skin, or had to take care of it, because it’s never needed any kind of attention outside of the ordinary.
HOWEVER, despite my apathy towards my skin and skincare, I was interested in connecting with other bloggers and perhaps learning something new. Plus there was the ever appealing offer for a rather large swag bag and the incentive of a free chemical peel.
So I went. I was nervous, and I knew no one, but I went. Thankfully, I ran into the lovely Jenn of Scarlet Beauty and we got to talking. She was so easy to speak to and it really eased up my anxiety over knowing NO ONE. I don’t suffer from social anxiety, but dear god do I hate walking into a room knowing no one where I’m expected to network my way to success. I haven’t the faintest ideas what the fuck I’m doing!
I’ve got wine in my hands, all is good.
The event was short, but sweet. I met a few Toronto-area bloggers I already knew of, but had never met in person before (man, that was strenuous; trying to remember who owned what blog), listened to a session on fashion trends (really, REALLY not up my alley), but learned a few cute things about how to stay interesting as a blogger.
Miracle 10 Session
After the session, I met with one of Miracle 10’s skincare experts to held decipher what kind of skincare program I needed to be on. The rep was clearly slightly disturbed that I only washed my face once a day… Ooops. In the end, they determined my “type” and gave me a hand picked swag bag full of products geared towards Normal/Maturing skin (mmmm maturing, just what I wanted to hear).
Myself and two Jenns
On my way out the door, I was handed my expensive bag of goodies and instructed to book my free chemical peel.
The holidays came and went, and finally it was time for my peel. So at the beginning of January, in middle of a dumping of snow, I headed back to Miracle 10 on Scollard Street.
Before I left, I snagged some shots of my clean face so you could see what my skin looked like prior to appointment.
Zero makeup
So as you can see… freckles and moles, no breakouts, slight redness (if I’m REALLY looking) around the chin and some undereye circles.
Left sideRight side
The procedure was essentially flawless. They took me into a backroom and had me lay down on doctor’s table. The technician explained the procedure and asked me a few questions about my skin. As this was my first time having a peel done, she decided to use the mildest acid they have; lactic.
After prepping the skin, she then shaved my entire face. It’s called dermaplanning; they use a small razor to remove all the fine hairs and any excess dead skin off your face. My technician indicated to me that I had quite dry skin (no surprise there, it’s the dead of winter and I feel dry as a bone!) since she was sloughing off a lot of dry, dead cells. It’s worth noting that the razor felt like nothing. It’s barely even a tickle! She was slow and methodical about it and I never felt like I was in danger of having my face sliced open.
Inside Miracle 10
The lactic acid was then applied to my skin for two minutes. This *did* tingle and sting slightly, but it wasn’t painful and it’s certainly something anyone can withstand for two straight minutes. The acid was then removed gently and she asked me if there was anywhere that was still stinging. My nose was, so she gently rubbed around my nose to remove any excess.
After that, it’s basically nap time. A cooling mask was applied to my face and it was lights out for 10 minutes. Except… she left me in there way longer than 10 minutes. It was closer to 25, verging on 30. I was a little surprised, half wondering if I’d been forgotten about. But, like a true Canadian, when she came back, I didn’t say a word. 😉
The mask was washed off and a thick moisturizer was applied to my face and eye area. I was then free to go on my merry way.
One thing that struck me immediately is how naked my skin felt. Without my little baby hairs on my face, I felt like my skin was truly sensitive to exposure. What a weirdass feeling that was let me tell you!
How did it turn out? Let’s take a look.
After chemical peel
There’s really no redness on my face (out of the ordinary that is). My nose is definitely pinker, but that’s because I walked home in the blistering cold. I was surprised with how much my skin did not react to the acid – I was half expecting full on Samantha Jones laser treatment hideousness.
Left sideRight side
But instead my skin looks… relatively the same. It’s perhaps slightly brighter, I mean, they did essentially take an entire layer of skin off my face between the acid and the shaving. And I noticed my moles were definitely darker (makes sense right? There’s less skin on top of the pigmentation) but that’s neither here nor there for me.
My skin remained tacky to the touch for several hours after the treatment. She had applied some intense moisture therapy cream and I never really felt like it sank in completely. More like… I still had some kind of protective barrier on my face.
At $125 a pop, this isn’t a cheap treatment. Having used the softest acid they had, I don’t feel like there’s much difference to my skin. I do wonder if any noticeable difference would’ve been more apparent if a stronger acid had been used, or more frequent sessions. However, I’m such a rookie at these things that I didn’t really want to dive in head first with something really abrasive on my face.
I am super thankful to Miracle 10 for giving me the opportunity to check out their location, test out their products and meet tons of new people. It’s an experience that I’m very lucky to have had.
It’s almost a week later now and my skin hasn’t reacted poorly at all. It never turned red or peeled, but I never noticed a striking difference in it either.
So how about you? Have you had chemicals peels done? What kind of acid did you opt for? What was your experience?
