More swatches from Sleek this week! This time I’m showing off my well used and abused Sunset palette. (Yes, that’s my shoddily painted on “Sunset” – none of Sleek‘s palette have any identifying markers on the outside so I was trying to label them myself.)
This is one of those palettes that just takes your breath away. The cranberry and orange hued shades in this palette are unbelievable showstoppers. Unfortunately, this is one ofSleek‘s older paletttes and therefore the shades don’t have names.
If you need inspiration after seeing the swatches, you can check out the Challenge Week I did featuring this palette. Enjoy!
This isn’t a review where I dissect a product and determine what I like about it so much as it is a rave review about a product I’ve used daily for over a decade. I don’t often mention products that I use daily (except for one post last year called “The Unmentionables“) because really… it just gets boring. No one cares if you use the same cleanser, moisturizer… because that information almost never changes if you’ve found a holy grail product.
And this Marcelle makeup remover is my holy grail.
Marcelle Gentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes
The MarcelleGentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes has been my makeup remover of choice for going on ten years now. I’ve seen this blue bottle go through several iterations of the cap (it looked like a short, fat pom-pom for a while, then they switched it to a (horrible) flip top that spurted out way too much liquid), but it’s perfect just how it is now. It has a small spout where you can tip the bottle over and apply as much as you like to a cotton pad before swiping it on your eyes.

So why do I love it so much?
Well, it’s a bi-phase makeup remover which means it’s got enough power to remove your waterproof mascara and hard to remove liquid and gel liners. This sucker will take ANYTHING off. Over the years I’ve heard a lot of people complain about some liners and mascara being difficult to remove (I’m looking at you BenefitThey’re Real!), but this has managed to obliterate anything and everything I’ve ever applied to my face. As with these bi-phase removers, I do get a bit of a film over my eyes after I’ve removed my makeup. I know this can be disorienting to some people, but after years of using this, I barely even notice it anymore. (I’m only mentioning this since it can be a super important detail to some people, however I do not consider this an issue as I’ve found that all waterproof makeup removers do this.)
It’s formulated for sensitive skin so this never leaves me feeling dry or itchy. And for those who monitor that kind of stuff, this remover is also paraben and perfume free, and suitable for contact lens wearers.
I’ve often tried out both high and low-end makeup removers just to see if there *is* something better out there. There isn’t. I keep coming back to this. It’s typically about $15 CAD at the drugstore, which is getting a bit up there I suppose, but you can always wait for a sale, or when they have a larger bottle promotion that has 33% more in it for the same price as the regular size (which I’ve featured in this post).
If you’re looking for a new makeup remover, I can’t recommend this enough. I will continue to purchase this bottle whenever I run out and I’ve *always* got a backup in my closet. And since Marcelle is a Canadian brand, it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I’m supporting something within my own country!

I can’t believe how well this look came out! I did this one for Prairie Beauty Love as a guest post for the month of March. Cross posting it here for my own archives!
Eyes
Makeup GeekAppletini on the inner two thirds of the lid.
Makeup GeekShark Bait on the outer third of the lid.
Makeup Geek Envy through the crease and right through to the eyebrow.
Shark Bait was then patted and blended along the upper edge of where Envy was blended through the crease.
On the brow bone is Makeup GeekVanilla Bean.
On the inner tearduct and on the very outer edge of the eye, I applied Naked Cosmetics‘ pale green from the Ivory stack.
To get the dramatic winged liner, I used Catrice‘s Dating Joe Black liquid liner. Go slowly with this! I then lined my upper and lower water line with Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner. I applied CoverGirl‘s Clump Crusher mascara to my lashes and threw on a pair of J. Cat lashes in EL13. To amp up the crease, I patted on some Too FacedGlitter Glue and layered on some (super ancient) Tony + Tinasilver glitter.

While not available at stores in North America, Sleek products can be easily accessed by their online shop (and the shipping is *actually* cheap to Canada/USA!). If you’re lucky enough to live in the United Kingdom, you can pick up Sleek palettes at Superdrug which is where I picked up this Au Naturel palette when I was in London two years ago. With a ton of matte shades alongside shimmers, this palette packs the right amount of punch and variety for a neutral palette.
