Skincare Saturday: BLAQ Meteor Shower Shimmer Scrub (DO NOT BUY THIS)

Blaq Meteor Shower Shimmer Scrub
Blaq Meteor Shower Shimmer Scrub

This is the WORST product I have *EVER* tried in my history of trying out beauty products over my entire life and I’m simply making this post in the hopes that it reaches someone before they spend their money on this for themselves or for someone else. Or maybe you got this product as a gift and were going to use it.

DO. NOT. USE. THIS. PRODUCT. The BLAQ Meteor Shower Shimmer Scrub is absolute trash.

I was intrigued because it’s a shimmer scrub and I’m easily suckered in by anything glittery and holographic like the packaging on this one. The instructions indicate that the scrub will turn your skin grey but that you shouldn’t worry because it’ll easily rinse off with water. WOW WHAT A LIE THAT WAS.

Behold… my leg in the shower:

This is after I'd scrubbed it into my leg and tried to rinse it off.
This is after I’d scrubbed it into my leg and tried to rinse it off.

This was after trying to rinse it off with just hot water. No dice.

You can actually SEE the beads of water repelling off my skin in the picture above. This is because there’s some kind of oil in the product that makes the black gunk adhere to the skin… essentially locking it in place and forming a waterproof casing on my leg. IT’S LIKE FREAKING TAR.

So I used another sugar scrub to remove it. And my loofah. And soap. And body wash. It was barely moving, and I was fifteen minutes into scrubbing!

This is after scrubbing for fifteen minutes with another scrub and a loofah and more soap to try to get it off.

I finally stopped scrubbing, got out of the shower and started towelling off with the hopes that my towel would help me out with removal. All of these different methods of scrubbing did remove the bulk of the product, but I was still left with lightly grey tinted legs. I look FILTHY. Like I’d been rolling around in mud at the soccer field for the last two hours.

This is it CAUGHT IN MY HAIR FOLLICLES on my thigh.
This is it CAUGHT IN MY HAIR FOLLICLES on my thigh.

And to make matters worse? It locks into your hair follicles. The shot above is a close up shot I took with my phone of my thigh. Can you even believe what you’re seeing? That black grit has gotten into my hair follicles!

I’m ENRAGED. In all of my years of trying beauty products (not just in my blogging “career”) I have never encountered a more GARBAGE product than this one. Not only did it stain my skin, but it also ruined my shower loofah (I’ve since thrown it out), stained my bath tub grey (it’s day later and I’m STILL trying to get it out) and all of my towels had to be laundered. How this pure shit of a beauty product made it out of QA testing and out on to the market is an absolute travesty.

DO NOT BUY THIS. DO NOT USE IT. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THE BLAQ METEOR SHOWER SHIMMER SCRUB.

Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tints (Review & Swatches)

Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tints

Revlon makes some of the greatest lipsticks at the drugstore, and it’s been fun to watch their evolution over time. From their Super Lustrous Lipsticks (still a staple in my collection) to their much beloved (but sadly no longer among us) Lip Butters and Just Bitten Balm Stains, Revlon knows how to hit the right notes in the makeup world. Just recently I tried out their Kiss Cushion Lip Tints, which ended up being an interesting hybrid of a lipstick consistency with a staining component!

The Revlon Cushion Lip Tints come with a pull off top (no need to twist) and an absolutely MASSIVE pointed nozzle tip that dispenses the product. You twist up the product up from the bottom and it comes out the doefoot-like tip.

It does take a while to get some of the product to come out when you first use it, but once it starts flowing you need VERY little product for lip application.

Because, as you can see, once I twisted these up, I got a LOT of pigment on my arm when I swatched them the first time! The two shades I have, Extra Violet and Wine Trip, are pretty close in tone, but Extra Violet is more purple whereas Wine Trip has more red in it (fits, right? lol).

On the lips, Extra Violet has a little bit less pigment but it looks absolutely gorgeous. These work best if applied lightly, not globbed on. The shot above is after having worn the lipstick for about twenty minutes, just before I started filming. You can see it’s more matte with a hint of luminosity when compared to the swatch shot which shows a lot more gloss.

And here’s Wine Trip right after I’d applied it. The Kiss Cushion Lip Tints definitely go on quite strongly and glossy, but start drying down within the first ten minutes and start wearing down to more of a stain finish over the next few hours.

This is Wine Trip blotted down with a tissue not long after application. So you can choose to wear it full on out of the tube, or blot it down immediately. That being said, if you wear it full on, you’ll eventually end up with a more blotted down lip over time (which Revlon indicates is the intended look over time). It wears down fairly evenly, except around the five hour mark where I’d say that you end up with more of a ring around your lips where the product will cling to the more dry areas. Applying a little bit more of the product will help hide that!

Final Thoughts

The Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tints are an interesting hybrid lip product. They apply like a true liquid lipstick (although I did find that the applicator is a little cumbersome), but wear down like a true lip stain. I liked the comfort of these – they feel more like a balm than a thick lip product, and I was happy that it retained colour over several hours. I did find that reapplication was necessary to avoid that telltale ring, but the ring wasn’t so bad that I felt I always needed to reapply it. I often just let it fade away naturally and never thought it made look weird. I know I reviewed two dark shades in this post, but Revlon does have some brighter and lighter shades too.!

The Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tints can be purchased on shoppersdrugmart.ca for $12.49 USDshoppersdrugmart.ca for $12.49 USD each or on ulta.com for $9.99 USDulta.com for $9.99 USD.

Swatch Sunday: Blush Tribe Neon Dreams Revamped

Blush Tribe Neon Dreams Revamped

This is my very first forray into indie makeup, and I think you can see why!

When I first saw Blush Tribe announce this palette I was immediately suckered in by the bright, bold and incredibly vivid neon shades.

They’re so vibrant that capturing their neon quality on camera was a bit of a challenge for me and even though they look bright here, I can assure you that the Neon Dreams Revamped palette is even more vivid in real life. I’m planning a video review on this beauty, but until then, please enjoy the swatches!
