What I Bought This Month – August 2015 Haul

August’s haul is pretty light… likely because I’m preparing for the release of EVERYTHING for the holiday season. (Seriously, there’s like three Too Faced palettes I want… a Kat Von D one… and I’m sure there are going to be tons more!)

Lush - L'Eveil du Phenix $6.95, Oh soleil $10.95, Dorothee $6.25, Bleu glace $6.40
Lush – L’Eveil du Phenix $6.95, Oh soleil $10.95, Dorothee $6.25, Bleu glace $6.40

Lush products are lovely, but the price tags ALWAYS make me cringe. However, I was on vacation in Montreal so it never really feels like I’m spending real money unless I’m in my own city. So this was a VACATION treat, you see.  It turns out they’re discontinuing the Dorothy bubble bar and I’m horrified because I absolutely love that scent. The Oh soleil (don’t know the English name) suckered me in due to the gorgeous colours. I also wanted to give a bath bomb a shot so I grabbed the Phoenix one which smelled kind of cinammon-y. And the Ice blue soap was a last minute decision at the cashier – they get me every single time. I love it because it’s very fresh and aquatic smelling.

NARS Matte Multiple in Siam ($24.99 CAD)
NARS Matte Multiple in Siam ($24.99 CAD)

This was such a fluke. I had been wanting the NARS Siam Matte Multiple ever since it came out. But I could not justify the price when it’s basically a cream blush that I’ll use, but it won’t be a daily thing. So when I was in Montreal, someone pointed out that Winners had some Matte Multiples and I was like “what seriously? Well if they have Siam, I’m picking it up.” And sure enough, they did! It’s still incredibly pricey at $25, but it’s a lot better than paying the regular ~$50 for it!

Dior brow products - free (gift)
Dior brow products – free (gift)

These were freebies from hmmm… I think it was Zoe. As a brunette she has no need for blonde eyebrow products so I was more than happy to take them off her hand and give Dior products a shot. Unfortunately, the blonde Dior pencil is far too orange for my colouring, but the Brow Styler Gel is pretty cool. I have to use it after I’ve already applied pencil, but I like how it adds texture to my brows.

Sephora VIB Rouge Event sample bag
Sephora VIB Rouge Event sample bag

Although I’m not a VIB Rouge member at Sephora, I had the pleasure of being invited to the VIB Rouge event at the Eaton Centre by Julie. The swag bag was fairly epic, as the only thing I bought in the shot above was the Bite Beauty lip mask!

Bite Beauty Maple Agave Lip Mask ($30 CAD)
Bite Beauty Maple Agave Lip Mask ($30 CAD)

So here’s the lip mask by Bite Beauty. Not going to lie, it’s a bit painful when I realize I spent $30 CAD on basically a lip balm. But it has the new Maple scent that’s exclusive to Canada and I’ve been wanting to find out just how good this Agave Lip Mask stuff really is. It’s very, very thick (to the point where it’s actually quite hard to get out of the tube), but it does smell like maple and it feels quite luxurious. I’m curious to see how this will protect my lips during the winter.

Too Faced - The little Black Book of Bronzer (free - gift)
Too Faced – The little Black Book of Bronzer (free – gift)

I’ve professed my love of bronzers before, so it feels kind of awesome when your friends recognize that and throw bronzers at you.

Too Faced - The little Black Book of Bronzer (free - gift)
Too Faced – The little Black Book of Bronzer (free – gift)

What’s even better is when you get eight bronzers in one! The Too Faced Bronzer Wardrobe comes with eight of their lovely bronzers in bite sized pans. This is going to be phenomenal for travelling (because yes, I’m the kind of person that wants eight different bronzers when I go on a trip!).

Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion in 25I (free - gift)
Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion in 25I (free – gift)

My photography of this one isn’t great for colour accuracy. This is the Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion in 25I. I received it because it was a little too orange for the original owner, although my photo doesn’t display that. I can wear it, and I love it because it has that wonderful Pro Bronze Fusion formula, but it doesn’t beat out my 30M.

That’s it for this month! I’ve got a few exciting products waiting for me in the US (Too Faced Vegas Nay palette, Colour Pop order) which I’ll be able to pick up while I visit two friends in New York City next month. September is also the month of IMATS. So I can see next month being a fairly expensive month!

20150415_look1-1

I can’t believe how well this look came out! I did this one for Prairie Beauty Love as a guest post for the month of March. Cross posting it here for my own archives!

20150415_look1-2

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Appletini on the inner two thirds of the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Shark Bait on the outer third of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Envy through the crease and right through to the eyebrow.
  4. Shark Bait was then patted and blended along the upper edge of where Envy was blended through the crease.
  5. On the brow bone is Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean.
  6. On the inner tearduct and on the very outer edge of the eye, I applied Naked Cosmetics‘ pale green from the Ivory stack.

To get the dramatic winged liner, I used Catrice‘s Dating Joe Black liquid liner. Go slowly with this! I then lined my upper and lower water line with Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner. I applied CoverGirl‘s Clump Crusher mascara to my lashes and threw on a pair of J. Cat lashes in EL13. To amp up the crease, I patted on some Too FacedGlitter Glue and layered on some (super ancient) Tony + Tina silver glitter.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanilla mixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Physicians Formula Happy Booster in Natural
  • Lips: Wet n Wild 903C Just Peachy with NYX‘s Butter Gloss in Tiramisu on top

What’s On My Face – Volume 30

A lot more bright looks in this lot which I’m super happy about. If you notice an increase in quality of some of the pictures, it’s because I picked up an actual DSLR in December instead of using my old point and shoot camera. The reason I say “some of the pictures” is that on some days I unfortunately only have the opportunity to use my phone’s camera at work in the bathroom and the lighting is really, really unfortunate on those. Ah well.

20150114_look3-1

My New Year’s Eve makeup look. Surprisingly, I didn’t go all out of with glitter, but I’ve really been enjoying the look of a bit of the rainbow silver glitter on the lower lash line.

20150114_look3-2

Eyes

  1. Inglot Matte 334 all over the lid.
  2. Inglot Matte 325 on the outer third.
  3. Urban Decay Blackout in the outer v.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brule through the crease.
  5. Too Faced White Chocolate on the browbone.
  6. Naked Cosmetics Ivory stack in the purple/blue reflected pigment on the inner tearduct.

I applied Make Up For Ever‘s Glitter 13 to the lower lash line, then tightlined my upper and lower waterlines with Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner. For the upper lash line, I used Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper. On my lashes is Benefit‘s They’re Real mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: NYC Fire Island Tan
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Violet with Cailyn lipgloss in Basic Instinct on top

20150114_look5-1

Holy crap. Why do I even hesitate on ordering Makeup Geek products? I held off getting one of the foiled shadows because I’ve kind of been going off shiny eyeshadow. But then I bought Flamethrower on a whim and… I’m in love. And I’ve now placed an order for the entire MUG foiled line. This stuff is insane. Pictures and telling you about how wonderful it is just won’t do the product justice – you need to buy this for yourself to experience the amazingness.

20150114_look5--2

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Flamethrower all over the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Bitten on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Too Faced White Chocolate on the browbone.

I used Tarte‘s black gel liner to create the wing and applied Benefit They’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 and 52
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: MAC Warm Soul
  • Lips: MAC Mystical

20150114_look1-1

I did this for a guest posting on Writing Whimsy, but wanted it on here for my own records. I used the Morphe 36 Glam palette and I had a beast of a time applying these shades. While they do look lovely, they would blend away to nothing at all so I would highly recommend using several primers, particularly one with a sticky base to help get these shadows to adhere to the lids.

20150114_look1-2

Since the Morphe shades aren’t named, please use the guide below to figure out which colours go where:

20150114_palettemap

Eyes

  1. Teal on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Blue on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Purple through the crease and used to line the lower lashline.
  4. Light pink  at the top of the crease to lightly blend out the purple.
  5. Pale peach to highlight the brow.
  6. Naked Cosmetics Ivory stack in the green reflect shade on the inner tearduct.

I used Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper to create the winged liner and applied Benefit’sThey’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl Tone Rehab 2-in-1  (CC Cream) in 110 Classic Ivory
  • Bronzer: Tarte Park Avenue Princess
  • Blush: Tarte Dollface
  • Highlighter: MAC Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish
  • Lips: essence Wear Berries!

20150114_look2-1

I picked up the Laura Mercier Artist palette for Eyes and Cheeks during the Sephora November VIB sale, but I haven’t played around with it much. I love the quality of the shadows, but they’re pretty bizarre colours (for me) so I don’t find myself reaching for it that often.

20150114_look2-2

Eyes
(all Laura Mercier)

  1. Crystal Beige on the lid.
  2. Cashmere in the crease.
  3. Stone Taupe in the outer corner.
  4. Morning Dew on the brow bone.

I used Tarte‘s black gel liner to create the wing and applied Benefit They’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory
  • Bronzer: NYC Fire Island Tan
  • Blush: Laura Mercier Rosegold Shimmer
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Ruby

20150114_look4-1

Playing around with some of my older limited edition MAC products.

20150114_look4-2

Eyes

  1. MAC Blue Sorcery (applied damp) all over the lid.
  2. MAC Moonlight Night pigment on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee through the crease.
  4. Too Faced White Chocolate on the brow bone.
  5. The silver glitter from the MAC Blue Sorcery duo was applied to my inner corner.

On my lashes is Benefit They’re Real mascara.

Rest of the Face

What I Bought This Month – December 2014 Haul

Oh December. So filled with holiday presents and limited edition palettes that I just want to devour. Forget spending money on other people, I swear I end up spending more on MYSELF during the holiday season. I feel like I need/want/can’t live without it and it’s not necessarily a mindset I want to be in because the closer I get to being a Sephora VIB Rouge, the more and more scared I get!

That being said, I was the recipient of some pretty sweetass gifts this Christmas (plus, you know, I bought things as well), so I am more than happy to share it all and pass on the lust that product photos induce!

Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette ($59 CAD)
Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette ($59 CAD)

Oh god. The Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette. Like, do I really need another neutrals palette? I mean honestly, I’m not even a neutrals kind of female!

Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette
Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette

But it’s got (slightly) different colours than the original, it smells lovely and… holy WOW, I was not expecting the slimmer packaging (I have the older, fatter version of the original Chocolate Bar palette) to make so much of a difference, but it really, really does. I’m more inclined to use this because I don’t feel like I’m pulling out a safety deposit box every time I go to use it like I do with the older palette.

I’m hoping she didn’t lick it…
I’m hoping she didn’t lick it…

I wasn’t the only female into it. Kolme’s getting a kick out of the smell as well.

I shall it “Cat with Chocolate Bar”
I shall it “Cat with Chocolate Bar”

D’awwwwwww.

Too Faced Melted – Peony, Violet, Fig, Fuchsia ($25 CAD each)
Too Faced Melted – Peony, Violet, Fig, Fuchsia ($25 CAD each)

And then… and then the Too Faced Melteds happened. I already owned three, but I got five more throughout the month of December. FIVE. I cannot go on about these enough – seriously, best lipstick ever (go check out my rave on Lipstick & Lullabies). So much so that I’m trying to avoid buying other lipsticks because I know they’re just not going to be as amazing as these are. I was gifted Melted Peony by Chantal during a Secret Santa exchange, I picked up Melted Violet and Melted Fig during a Sephora order, and my husband gifted me Melted Fuchsia and Melted Ruby for Christmas. What a serious score. Yessssss!

Bite Beauty Mix N’ Mingle Lip Mini in Musk/Retsina
Bite Beauty Mix N’ Mingle Lip Mini in Musk/Retsina

I was also gifted a Bite Beauty lipstick duo (Retsina and Musk) by Chantal as well! My shot on the right is pretty awful (bad lighting) but it’s nowhere near as pink as the bottom shade on the box depicts! I’m excited to try these shades out as I’ve been using Fig obsessively since I bought it earlier this year.

Lise Watier – Teal ($25 CAD)
Lise Watier – Teal ($25 CAD)

Dear god. This eyeshadow. I wasn’t able to photograph it that well (and boy did I ever try), so go check out Kalyn’s photography of it because that’s what made me buy it. At 25 bucks for the SINGLE eyeshadow, I  had a little bit of sticker shock. I have to admit I’m still cringing over having dumped the money on it, and even more irritated at myself that I haven’t even used it yet! But… the time will come and I too shall enjoy Lise Watier‘s Teal duochromeness.

e.l.f. Small Stipple Brush ($4 CAD)
e.l.f. Small Stipple Brush ($4 CAD)

I snapped up the elf Small Stipple Brush when I happened to be at Target over the holidays (I’m never at Target). Emily Noel goes on and on about this brush so I figured I too must have it in my collection.

Real Techniques – Lash/Brow Groomer ($7.99 CAD)
Real Techniques – Lash/Brow Groomer ($7.99 CAD)

This was bought as a filler item on an Amazon order to bring me up to the free shipping threshold (sigh). I’ve sort of been wanting a lash comb… but not really. I’m sure it’ll come in handy at some point.

Urban Decay Vice palette (2014 edition)
Urban Decay Vice palette (2014 edition)

Ohhhh yes. When my mom asked what I wanted for Christmas in November, I essentially told her she had to go rush out and get the Urban Decay Vice palette from Sephora pronto because I was worried they’d be sold out.

Urban Decay Vice palette (2014 edition)
Urban Decay Vice palette (2014 edition)

And like a champ, she pulled through (and it IS in fact sold out on Sephora’s site now). I had been lusting over this ever since I started seeing it pop up in several YouTube videos. This is the kind of palette I want to have when I’m travelling: A few rows of boring basics, and the rest are bright, loud shades that I can have fun with. Super pleased with this one, which is slightly amusing to me since I had zero interest in the previous iterations of this palette.

Side note: Why the hell are beauty bloggers/YouTubers always so obsessed with the “perfect travel palette”? We’re always talking about the best palette to take on vacation with us like it’s vital to our wellbeing, but let’s be realistic here, we don’t travel THAT much in a given year to warrant the number of “travel-friendly” palettes that we have!

Blistex – Mint, Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
Blistex – Mint, Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

A couple of lip balms I was gifted as well – both highly necessary for the winter!

The Body Shop – Frosted Cranberry

Pair of stocking stuffers here: The Body Shop‘s Frosted Cranberry scent in a shower gel and a shimmer(!!!) lotion.

The Body Shop – Pink Grapefruit

And yet more Body Shop stuffs! This time in the Pink Grapefruit scent (I’m a huge fan): Body Sorbet (totally new product to me) and another shower gel as well.

Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleansing Cloths ($8.49 CAD)

And what’s a haul without some Neutrogena wipes? 😉

Phew! Fini!

Anything cat-related on the internet and I’m all over it. And when I have an internet cat on my t-shirt? It just gets even better. I grabbed some inspiration from Nyan Cat here and went with it.

20141229_look2-1

I stuck to the blue and the red since that’s what stands out to me the most in that shirt. Plus I was doing brunch… it certainly didn’t call for a full rainbow!

Eyes

  1. NYX Asphyxiation all over the lid.

  1. Shimma Shimma all over the lid.
  2. Goddess on the outer half of the lid and lightly through the crease.

20141229_look1-1

A quick look that was mostly done just to try out Benefit‘s Push Up Liner (no review forthcoming on it, but my impression of it is pretty much “meh”. It’s okay, but it’s not better than a potted gel liner with a brush.).
