What’s On My Face – Volume 13

Another week, another set of looks. I even tried out some of the new spring trends that everyone keeps mentioning (white eyeshadow, orange lips). Keep on reading if you’re looking for some kind of inspiration!

20140407_look5.1

This is my absolute favourite look that I’ve come up with from the Laura Mercier Artist (2013) palette. I don’t usually apply dark(er) colours on the lid because I think it’ll interfere with the crease/outer corner colour, but when I do, I usually like the result!

20140407_look5.2

Eyes (all Laura Mercier)

  1. Bamboo all over the lid.
  2. Espresso Bean in the outer corner.
  3. Fresco through the crease.

Vanilla Nuts to highlight the brow bone. MAC Blacktrack fluidline to create the wing, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara on my lashes and MAC Omega eyeshadow through my brows.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: nothing
  • Blush: Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush in Natural
  • Lips: Maybelline Vivids in Neon Red

20140407_look2.1

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… this is the kind of bright, vibrant look that just makes me outright happy. I got back from trip to the US and just had to dive straight into the vividInglot shades I’d picked up.

20140407_look2.2

Eyes

  1. Inglot 343 all over the lid.
  2. Inglot 317 in the outer corner.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee very lightly at the top of the crease.

MAC Shroom on the brow bone. Tarte Amazonian clay waterproof gel liner in Black to create the wing, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara on my lashes and MAC Omega through my brows.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory mixed with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla
  • Blush: Milani Luminoso
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee

20140407_look1.1

I first saw this look on Sharon Farrell’s YouTube channel (direct tutorial link here). I think it looked really simple and stunning on her (and apparently it’s trendy right now), but I think it looks a little stark on me. That being said, zoomed in on the eye, I really love it. No eye guide for this one because it’s ridiculously simple!

Eyes

  • NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow pencil in Milk all over the lid, smooth it out for your finger or a brush.
  • Using the white from the Sleek Acid palette, apply it right on top of Milk. I had to really, REALLY pack this on so I can’t say I recommend this white shade. Use another white with more pigment if you have it. Blend it up to the brow, but don’t actually cover the brow with it – make sure it fades out before it hits your browbone.
  • I then applied a lot of coats of Too Faced‘s Better Than Sex mascara on my upper and lower lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory
  • Bronzer: Revlon Photoready in Bronzed & Chic
  • Blush: Illamasqua Hussy
  • Highlighter: MAC Silver Dusk

Another trend for spring (as I keep hearing, I’m really not trendy at all) is orange lips. This is the most wearable orange lip I have so I decided I’d start with this one before trying out another one I’ve got that’s a lot more vibrant.

20140407_look3.2

Eyes (all Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette)

  1. White Chocolate all over the lid and to highlight the brow.
  2. Salted Caramel in the outer corner.

Tarte Amazonian clay waterproof gel liner in Black to create the winged liner and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: none
  • Blush: MAC Gingerly
  • Highlighter: Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Candlight powder
  • Lips: Maybelline Vivid in Vibrant Mandarin

20140407_look4.1

There’s a MAC shade in my collection that I’m desperate to get rid of (Fade) so I tried to construct a look around that shadow.

20140407_look4.2

Eyes

  1. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Waves of White on the inner half of the lid.
  2. MAC Fade on the middle of the lid.
  3. MAC Freshwater on the outer third of the lid.

MAC Blanc Type to highlight the browbone, L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes and Chella Indigo liquid liner to create a very thin line.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: none
  • Blush: Physicians Formula Happy Booster in Natural
  • Lips: Sephora Color Reveal Balm in Unique Pink

How Much Does My Face Cost?

201404_howmuchdoesmyfacecost1

I saw this kind of topic years ago and always thought it was hilarious. If we really added up how much crap we put on our face, would we be shocked? More than likely. It’s funny how much makeup adds up, and how many more products get added into our routine over time.

I took these pictures after I got home from work yesterday and thought I’d add everything up afterwards. This was a semi-typical day: I didn’t like the makeup look enough to photograph it for a “What’s On My Face” post, but it wasn’t a total bomb day in the sense that I didn’t wear more or less products than any average day.

And finally, the only remaining thing…

Lips: Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Sunset Peach ($10.99 CAD)

Converting all of the different currencies by today’s exchange rate, I get…

Grand Total: $299.38

WOW. That was actually way higher than I thought it was going to be. I didn’t think I was wearing anything especially expensive as the eyeshadows were pretty cheap and so was the lip products. And that’s not even including any brushes! Has anyone else added up how much product they whack on their faces every day?

What’s On My Face – Volume 12

More recent makeup looks! A few neutrals mixed in with the bright ones.

20140319_look4.1

I got this idea from Jaclyn Hill (her tutorial). She used some beautiful Makeup Geek shadows and while I had most of them, I had to improvise the lid colour. Her looks came out a lot more pink, whereas mine leans more towards red. I know red shadow isn’t something anyone really gravitates towards, but red and orange are my favourite colours to play with on the eyes – probably because they’re rather unconventional.

20140319_look4.2

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie at the top of crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Razzleberry heavily in the outer corner and through the crease (don’t blend above Peach Smoothie). Lightly line the lower outer corner of your bottom lashline as well.
  3. Taking the Sleek Sunset palette, mix together the third shade from the left (top row) with the first shade on the right (bottom row) and apply the mixed shadows to your entire lid, blending it into Razzleberry.

MAC Shroom to highlight the brow, MAC Blacktrack fluidline for the winged liner and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

 Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: none
  • Blush: Tarte Charisma
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Happy Booster in Light/Medium
  • Lips: MAC Shy Girl

20140319_look1.1

This the look I do when I need to be a bit more dressed up, but have no idea what to wear on my face. There isn’t an outfit in the world that this eyeshadow won’t match!

20140319_look1.2

Eyes

  1. (all Urban DecayVirgin all over the lid.
  2. Buck in the outer corner and through the crease.
  3. Smog in the very outer corner.

Virgin to highlight the brow, MAC Blacktrack fluidline for the winged liner and Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Yaby in Buff
  • Brows: Urban Decay Naked (only mentioning this since I usually use MAC Omega)
  • Concealer: Collection Lasting Perfection in Shade 2 Light
  • Bronzer: Tarte Park Avenue Princess
  • Blush: Tarte Darling
  • Highlighter: Hard Candy Tiki
  • Lips: MAC Brick lipliner with MAC Russian Red on top

20140319_look3.1

I don’t usually do a cut crease because I honestly don’ really know what I’m doing. This ended up a bit more smoothed out through the crease than it should be, but I really love the colour combination for this one.

20140319_look3.2

Eyes

I first applied NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk all over the lid and smoothed it out. Then:

  1. Applied a mixture of a very yellow-gold from a Sephora palette I own (sorry, no name!) to the inner half of the lid.
  2. Inglot AMC Shine #15 on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Inglot Matte #325 at the very outer edge then pulled as sharply as you can through the crease.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee to blend out the very upper edge of the purple shadow.

Too Faced Cream Colored Ponies to highlight the brow, Make Up For Ever Aqualiner in 13 Black for the wing and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory mixed with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla
  • Blush: Sleek Crochet
  • Highlighter: MAC Whisper of Gilt
  • Lips: NYX Cherry Cheesecake

20140319_look2.1

This was out of my comfort zone because it required toning down my eye makeup so that I could make the purple mascara pop more.

20140319_look2.2

Eyes

  1. MAC Blanc Type all over the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee lightly through the crease.

Blanc Type to highlight the brow and Sephora Full Action Extreme Effect Mascara in Purple on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory mixed with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: MAC Gingerly
  • Highlighter: MAC Whisper of Gilt
  • Lips: Nothing

20140319_look5.1

I used a gold base for this one because the previous time I’d done this look, I didn’t feel like the purple-gold (African Violet) had enough punch to it. I much prefer this with the base because it gives the shade a lot more of the gold dimension that’s already there but slightly hidden.

20140319_look5.2

Eyes

First I applied Maybelline‘s Color Tattoo in Bold Gold all over the lid. Then:

  1. (all Laura MercierAfrican Violet all over the lid.
  2. Kir Royal in the outer corner.
  3. Plum Smoke through the crease.

Vanilla Nuts to highlight the brow and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory mixed with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla
  • Blush: I’m not positive, but it might be Tarte Exposed
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Highlighter: MAC Whisper of Gilt
  • Lips: Nothing

Thanks for reading. I hope something inspired you. 🙂

St. Patrick’s Day Makeup Ideas

Aside from Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day is my absolute favourite “holiday”. I tend to do a lot of green looks in general, but I thought I’d do a few more and compile them together for a post specifically dedicated to the holiday of all things green!

20140307_look4.1

Dark forest green with a hint of glitter. One of the stronger looks in this post and heck… you really can’t go wrong with glitter!

20140307_look4.2

Eyes:

  1. I first lined my lower lashline thickly with MAC Feline Kohl Power pencil and smudged it out into a really messy, thick line.
  2. Too Faced Evergreen was placed all over the lid, on top of the black liner.
  3. Sleek Fern in the outer corner.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee at the top of the crease.

MAC Shroom was used to highlight the browbone. On the lower lashline I smudged Evergreen on the outer half and then used some Too Faced Glitter Glue on the inner half and appliedToo Faced Glamour Dust in Glampire on top of the glue. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: Tarte Blissful
  • Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Maple Blondie

20140307_look1.1

I’m amazed and pleased with just how well this one turned out. Usually I would reverse the colours (gold on the inside, colour on the outside), but I decided I need to actually learn to play with my makeup a little bit more. And I’m happy I did because I think this is really beautiful.

20140307_look1.2

Eyes:

  1. MUA Shade 26 Pearl all over the lid.
  2. Urban Decay Half Baked in the outer corner and into the crease.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee through the crease.
  4. Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear barely tapped into the very outer corner to make it a touch bit deeper.

MAC Shroom on the browbone and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes.

20140307_look2.1

This is a bit more “typical” St. Patrick’s Day look for me (gold on the inner lid, green on the outside).

20140307_look2.2

Eyes:

  1. L’Oreal Infallible in Goldmine on the inner third of the lid.
  2. MAC Golden Olive pigment on the center of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Dirty Martini on the outer third of the lid and dragged lightly through the entire crease.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee at the top of the crease.

MAC Rice Paper to highlight the browbone. On the lower lid, Goldmine on the inner half and Dirty Martini on the outer half. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
Blush: MAC Petal Power
Lips: Sephora Color Reveal Balm in Unique Pink

20140307_look5.1

Even though this showed up pretty vibrantly on camera, I’d recommend using a white base (which I didn’t do) in order to brighten the colours up a bit more. I found the colours faded a bit throughout the day and the white base may help to keep the shadows intact.

20140307_look5.2

Eyes: (all Makeup Geek)

  1. Fuji all over the lid.
  2. Dirty Martini on the outer corner and through the crease.
  3. Creme Brulee to blend out the crease.

MAC Shroom on the browbone. Dirty Martini smudged very slightly on the outer corner of the lower lashline. Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
Highlighter: MAC Silver Dusk
Blush: Joe Fresh Apricot (cream)
Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie

20140307_look3.1

I love this look, but damn does it ever look not great in close ups. You’ll also notice that the liner is completely covered in the eyeshadow… this seemingly can’t be helped whenever I wear shiny liquid liners as it just picks up the shadow from my lid when my eyes are open.

Also… tell me how much you love my shirt. 😉

Eyes: Using the Wet n Wild I Dream of Greenie trio, follow the instructions!

  1. Eyelid shade all over the lid and the inner half of the lower lid.
  2. Crease shade in the outer corner and through the crease and on the outer half of the lower lid.

And, obviously, the Browbone shade to highlight the brow. Make Up For Ever Aqualiner in 13 Black to create the wing (although honestly, I’m so irritated with this liner that I’d recommend using a matte black one that won’t cause so much eyeshadow transfer to the liner). L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
Blush: Illamasqua Hussy
Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu

February 2014 Favourites

201402_favourites

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a whole lot of favourite beauty products this month. While looking through my stash and glancing over the makeup looks I’d done in the last month, there really weren’t a lot of repeat products. There were a few though, so I thought I’d share them with you.

CoverGirl “CC Cream” and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum
CoverGirl “CC Cream” and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum

I’ve come to the realization that my face is not as pale as I used to think it is. (I say this every time, but my face is darker than the underside of my arm where I’ve swatched these foundations (above), so don’t use that to judge whether or not they match my face.) I was using Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla a lot and I started to notice that it was making me look deathly pale. I decided that looking like I’d constantly seen a ghost wasn’t a good thing, and opted to mix it with one of my darker foundations which happens to be Covergirl‘s “CC Cream” in 110 Classic Ivory (which you’ll also see labeled as Tone Rehab 2 in 1). While both foundations smell nice on their own, I prefer the fruity scent of the Bourjois, however the fruity scent gets eaten up by the scent of the Covergirl one (not a bad thing, just disappointing!). Anyway, moving on. I like how they even out to create a better colour for my winter skin tone and they feel really nice combined. No cake face or ghost face either!

Urban Decay – Naked
Urban Decay – Naked

As if you need to see more of this palette right? I’ll make it quick! I’m not even a neutral person and yet I love this sucker. I took UD‘s Naked palette with me on vacation to Ottawa this past month and every time I take it somewhere, I remember just how much I love it.

MAC – Cyndi
MAC – Cyndi

This is my second tube of MAC‘s Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick. It’s no longer available, but back when I got it, I picked up a second tube immediately out of fear that this would no longer be available. And sure enough, this isn’t in the regular Viva Glam line anymore! The colour is a beautiful light raspberry with a lustre finish. Since Cyndi is a lustre, it doesn’t have the best lasting power so use a lip liner to extend the longevity of it.

Make Up For Ever – Aqualiner in 13 Black
Make Up For Ever – Aqualiner in 13 Black

Okay, this isn’t technically a favourite, but I did wear it for probably half the days of the month so there’s obviously SOMETHING I like about it.

Allow me to explain.

MUFE‘s Aqualiner has a felt tip (boo) but is utterly waterproof (yay!). This stuff will NOT budge if you get water anywhere near it. But that’s its only redeeming factor. It dries to a very dark black, but it also has a shiny texture which unfortunately seems to pick up every eyeshadow I put on my lid. The end result is a muted liner that no longer looks black but rather green, or silver, or blue, or *whatever* eyeshadow colour I happened to wear that day. It drives me CRAZY! I need to go back to matte black liners because they don’t seem to pick up the shadow on my lids like the shiny ones do.

The OTHER problem is this one:

MUFE – Aqualiner, busted filter
MUFE – Aqualiner, busted filter

Two weeks into owning this liner, the blasted filter got itself stuck in the cap! As the arrow on the left shows, that bumpy part is not supposed to be stuck on the cap, it’s supposed to be on the top of the tube! I’ve pulled it off and put it back on the tube multiple times but it’s super messy and annoying, and no matter what, it still gets itself stuck back in the cap the next time I use it. So at the end of all this, the only redeeming factor this liner has is that it’s waterproof. I wish I’d returned it, but I did wear it a lot in the last month simply because I need something waterproof for the winter months and MAC‘s Blacktrack just couldn’t deliver. If you know of a matte black, waterproof gel or liquid liner, please let me know!

Fortune Cookie Soap – Marshmallow Dreams Cuticle Cream
Fortune Cookie Soap – Marshmallow Dreams Cuticle Cream

I received my first Fortune Cookie Soap box midway through February (review/haul on that coming on Wednesday) and loved the pants out of that box. I’m posting the cuticle cream not so much because of the product inside, but primarily for the smell. FCS‘ Marshmallow Dreams scent smells, as they say, like marshmallow fluff (so basically sugar) and I love how sugary-gooey it smells. Unfortunately, it seems that FCS has run out of every product they have in this scent already (within a week!) and I’m unsure if they’ll add more back to the site since every product says “SOLD OUT”. For now, this cuticle butter will last me a while since a little goes an extremely long way.

So not a whole lot, but enough to have had some fun with.
