What I Bought This Month – November 2015

Although I didn’t go absolutely balls out during the Sephora VIB sale, I did get a few items throughout the month that have definitely been a lot of fun to play around with!

Guerlain Météorites - Flocons Enchantés

Guerlain Météorites - Flocons Enchantés ($89 CAD)
Guerlain Météorites – Flocons Enchantés ($89 CAD)

Let’s get this one out of the way quickly cuz I’ve already done a review on it and blamed Steph for making me purchase this. The special edition Guerlain Meteorites for holiday 2015 set me back a ridiculous amount of money for a single product. Having always been curious about the Meteorites, I was excited to spend my money on this gorgeous one. In the end though, it’s nothing earth shattering… except for maybe the cost.

Revlon Emery Boards (~$3 CAD)
Revlon Emery Boards (~$3 CAD)

Emery boards! Riveting! I always forget to buy these and my cats steal them constantly (and hide them under the rug) soooo I’m sure in a week’s time I’ll only have one left!

Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara ($28 CAD minus 20% during the VIB sale)
Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara ($28 CAD minus 20% during the VIB sale)

Buying a high end mascara feels physically painful to me since you basically have to throw it out after four months. So I was really glad to pick up the Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch during the VIB sale. After having been introduced to this mascara back in April, it has hands down become my absolute favourite mascara of life. It separates and coats my lashes like nothing else. Best mascara ever and I am so happy to have it back in my life! (Full review here.)

Too Faced - Melted Villain ($25 CAD - 20% during the VIB sale)
Too Faced – Melted Villain ($25 CAD – 20% during the VIB sale)

I use the VIB sales as a way of helping me to complete my Too Faced Melted collection. I only opted for one shade this time, and that was Melted Villain – a very intense dark plum. I haven’t worn it yet, but I will soon!

Neutrogena Hydrating Cleansing Clothes ($8.99 CAD)
Neutrogena Hydrating Cleansing Clothes ($8.99 CAD)

I don’t know what it is with these particular Neutogena cleansing wipes, but the Hydrating ones almost never, EVER go on sale at Shoppers. I was surprised when I saw them knocked down five bucks last week and quickly snatched one up. Unfortunately, all the other ones had been opened (ew!), or I would have bought more. These are my absolute favourite wipes – they’ll remove even waterproof makeup AND they don’t require you to scrub at your face. Love.

The Body Shop - Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel ($11 CAD - sale)
The Body Shop – Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel ($11 CAD – sale)

The next four items are courtesy of The Body Shop‘s amazing Black Friday sale. They were doing 3 for $33, 4 for $44, 5 for $55, etc. Almost everything qualified for the sale, so you were getting some items more than 50% off! The first item that went into my bag was the Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel. I have been through scads of this particular shower gel over the years and it still remains my absolute favourite.  This bottle is also an enormous 750 ml… for ELEVEN DOLLARS! So happy with this one!

The Body Shop - Shea Butter Body Butter ($11 CAD - sale)
The Body Shop – Shea Butter Body Butter ($11 CAD – sale)

The Shea Butter by The Body Shop is probably my favourite scent in their Body Butter line. It verges on being masculine without actually going over the edge, and that may be why I like it so much. I’ve used up one of these before and felt the need to have it back in my life.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in Light Matte ($11 CAD - sale)
The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in Light Matte ($11 CAD – sale)

The Body Shop‘s Honey Bronzer has become a thing of legend amongst the beauty community. Since my summer tan is fading, I’ve found the need to reach for lighter and lighter bronzers. I thought this one would fit the bill (plus I’d always wanted to try it) for the winter months. Sadly, it does not smell like honey. 🙁

The Body Shop - The Sparkler in Silver Glimmer ($11 CAD - sale)
The Body Shop – The Sparkler in Silver Glimmer ($11 CAD – sale)

I discovered this by accident while I was walking around The Body Shop and it was love at first sight. This is a shimmer spray! It actually poofs vanilla-scented shimmer out the top! HOW AMAZING IS THAT? I’ve never heard anyone mention it before, but this little bottle of amazingess is called The Sparkler. I chose the silver shade, but in hindsight I wish I’d gotten the gold instead. (Honestly kind of tempted to make another order before their sale ends…)

That’s it for November! (That’s enough, right?) Tell me what one item you got in November that excited you the most!

Beauty Bloggers Made Me Buy It

Soooooo…. This beauty blogging world that I’ve surrounded myself with over the last two years… it’s absolutely filled with talented bloggers who are unbelievable enablers. We’re all friends, so this entire post is said with love, but goddamn it you jerks, you make me spend money because everything looks so freaking good on you! *shakes fist*

Here’s a roundup of recent products that some of my blogging buddies have forced my hand into buying!

Colour Pop Ultra Mattes
Colour Pop Ultra Mattes
  • Product: Colour Pop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks
  • Culprit: Kaitlyn of Kaitlyn Elizabeth Beauty
  • Blog Post That Did Me In: New In: ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lips
  • My Reasons: I held off on ordering the Colour Pop Ultra Mattes when they were released but Kaitlyn was on that train so fast that it made my head spin. She not only got her order quickly but also got lip shots up within what… a day? Maybe two? Regardless, it was LIGHTNING fast. I ended up referring to her post a lot to help me decide between some shades that seemed very similar. I ended up getting Tulle and Trap based on her lip shots (*love* those colours) and although the formula isn’t quite what I love in a matte lip, I still got some awesome colours thanks to her post!
Colour Pop - Coconut
Colour Pop – Coconut
  • Product: Colour Pop Super Shock Shadow in Coconut
  • Culprit: Julie of Swatch and Review
  • Blog Post That Did Me In: Colourpop Super Shock Shadow Coconut review
  • My Reasons: Julie was wearing this when we went to the Charlotte Tilbury launch at Holt Renfrew, and it freaking BLEW ME AWAY. The colour and pigmentation were second to none… the colour just SCREAMED from her eyelids and I placed it in my next Colour Pop order immediately. Of course, like most new products, this has fallen to the back of my single eyeshadow drawer… but since I had to photograph it for this post it’s back into the front row again! I’m still not the biggest fan of the super shock formula (it’s just not brush friendly), but there’s no denying that colour!
NARS Multiple in Siam
NARS Multiple in Siam
  • Product: NARS Matte Multiple in Siam
  • Culprit: Oh hey look… JEN AGAIN
  • Blog Post That Did Me In: Vibrant Blush Week #1: NARS Matte Multiple in Siam
  • My Reasons: I’m not TOTALLY positive that was the right post that got me hooked on Siam, but I know for sure it was Jen that pushed me over the edge on this one. I ended up getting it for a discounted price from a Winners near Montreal. It’s such a gorgeous vibrant red-orange shade that I just could not resist it. (And Jen makes everything look amazing!)
Marcelle Liquid Dip-Pen in Blackest Black (~$7 CAD)
Marcelle Liquid Dip-Pen in Blackest Black
  • Product: Marcelle Liquid Dip-Pen Eyeliner
  • Culprit: Sarah of Workaday Beauty
  • Blog Post That Did Me In: Review: Marcelle Waterproof Liquid DIP-PEN Eyeliner 10H+
  • My Reasons: Sarah knew I was after a liquid eyeliner that was actually matte (and not glossy like most of them are), so she was excited to tell me about the Dip-Pens she’d discovered by Marcelle. And they’re waterproof to boot! In the end, the formula IS amazing, but I’m not in love with the brush which is a damn shame. But for those of you looking for a matte black, waterproof liner from the drugstore in Canada – you may want to look into this one!

That’s it for this roundup of people who make me spend my money! I may turn this into series every few months since I don’t doubt there’ll be even more enabling going on as time passes! I’d love to hear about who has made you buy what products and why!

Guerlain Météorites – Flocons Enchantés

Something magical and ethereal has landed this holiday season by Guerlain

Guerlain Météorites - Flocons Enchantés

Encased in an opulent snowglobe-type packaging, the Guerlain Météorites – Flocons Enchantés (directly translated, Flocons Enchantés is “Enchanted Snowflakes” in English) are one hella expensive item. At $89 CAD (BEFORE TAX!), this is easily the most expensive singular item in my makeup collection.

And why on earth did I “need” it? I don’t even have a good answer for that, but I can try to tell you my excuses! I first saw Steph post about these special edition Météorites on Fun Size Beauty during a pre-launch event in September, and it was obsession at first sight. I’d never owned anything by Guerlain, although I had lusted after their regular Météorites for quite some time. I guess you could say I had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to purchase some. (Although I’m not sure how $89 equals the perfect opportunity…)

Guerlain Météorites - Flocons Enchantés

Let’s take a look at the packaging. Les Flocons Enchantés come in round ball that mimics a snowglobe. A lovely embedded gold Guerlain logo peeks through the top of the frosted sides. The cap twists off to reveal a mirror in the lid and a powder puff with a gold bow.

When you pull off the powder puff, you might gasp. And you might gasp from either the gorgeousness that is les Flocons Enchantés, or maybe from the scent. I WAS NOT PREPARED. A lot of people had forewarned me that Guerlain was very “old lady makeup scented” and man, were they ever right. Supposedly this is scented like violets. To me, it smelled like a thousand old ladies pulled out their makeup bags from the 1950s and went to town. I was not impressed with the scent AT ALL. That being said, the scent does not transfer to the skin, so you’re pretty safe in that respect. (Major, MAJOR relief on my behalf there.)

Scent aside, les Flocons Enchantés are absolutely breathtaking. The slightly iridescent gold and champagne balls are shot through with handcrafted white-beige stars. I own a lot of makeup products, but nothing as gorgeous as this one. Just looking at the macro shot above is enough to make me swoon. There is nothing about this product that isn’t gorgeous and luxurious.

So what is it about this product that made me NEED it? I knew from Temptalia’s review that it was nothing extraordinary, and yet I wanted it so desperately that nothing was going to stop me from getting it. To me, this is a product that sings of winter’s crisp air and the sun’s reflection on the snow. It reminds me of winters past when I used to go to figure skating practice at 7 am during the dead of winter (which was definitely not glamorous at the time, but as with everything, nostalgia adds glamour and a hint of remorse to anything in our past). It makes me feel like a fairy princess, and for that, the price tag was worth it.

Here’s a full face shot so you can see how it appears on my skin. I’m only wearing Bourjois’ Health Mix Serum foundation in 51 Light Vanilla. There is no bronzer, no blush and no other highlighter applied to my face. I applied les Flocons Enchantés all over my face, packing on even more on my cheekbones.

Close up, you can see a bit more of the texture of the pearls on my skin. There’s definitely a white shimmer on my cheekbone, although it’s subtle. You can even spot some shimmer particles in my eyebrow from when I had applied it to my forehead.

I mean come on... they're so gorgeous I turned them into a desktop background!

Final Thoughts

Do you need this product? No. Especially not at that price point.

Should you get if it makes you feel wonderful? Absolutely, yes. Although the scent isn’t my cup of tea, I love adding this step into my makeup routine. It’s the kind of product that I’ll reserve for special occasions because it makes me feel special.

Is this something you’d pick up? If not, what’s the most expensive makeup item in your collection?
