What’s On My Face – Volume 34

Another makeup looks roundup!

womf_vol33_look1-1

I was playing around with some matte shades… then decided I needed some glitter.

womf_vol33_look1-2

Well WHOOPS. I totally messed up the colour map…

Eyes

  • The Balm Matt Abdul all over the lid.
  • The Balm Matt Johnson in the crease.
  • The Balm Matt Malloy on the brow bone.
  • Illamasqua Static pigment was applied all over the lid directly on top of the lid shade.

I used Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper to create the wing, then applied Too FacedBetter Than Sex mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Cargo Mendocino

This was a straight rip from a recent Jaclyn Hill YouTube tutorial that I just loved. I had almost all the same products (always a blessing when you watch a tutorial) and loved how it looked on her so I decided to replicate it as best I could. This ended up being near identical to the look I wore on Valentine’s Day.

womf_vol33_look5-2

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie and Creme Brulee mixed together at the top of the crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear heavily through the crease.
  3. Too Faced Dark Chocolate (from the A few of my Favorite Things palette) in the inner and outer third of the eye.
  4. Makeup Geek Houdini on the center of the lid.
  5. Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean on the brow bone.
  6. (not marked) MAC Nylon on the inner tearduct and lightly on the brow.

I used Make Up For Ever‘s Ink Liner to create the wing, then tightlined my upper and lower lash line with Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner. Blended along my lower lash line is Cocoa Bear and Dark Chocolate. On my lashes is Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanilla mixed together
  • Bronzer & Highlighter: Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo #1
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat

I hadn’t touched my Naked Cosmetics pigments much since I picked them up in November, so I decided to just pick a colour at random (the pink) and work with it.

womf_vol33_look4-2

Eyes

  1. Naked Cosmetics Tropical Indulgence pigment stack, peachy pink colour applied wet all over the lid.
  2. Sleek Ink on the outer corner and through the crease.

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara is on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Can’t remember! 🙁
  • Lips: Too Faced Coral Fire

womf_vol33_look3-1

This one disappointed me. I applied some black glitter to the lower lash line, but you can’t even really tell – it just looks like I HEAVILY outlined my lower lash line with black eyeliner. Boo.  🙁

womf_vol33_look3-2

Eyes

  1. Sleek Chill all over the lid.
  2. Sleek Bolt on the outer half of the lid and through the crease.
  3. Wet n Wild Brulee on the brow bone.

I used Tarte‘s black gel liner to create the wing. I then lined my lower lash line with MAC‘sPhone Number eye kohl, applied some Too Faced Glitter Glue on top and then patted onLit CosmeticsBack in Black glitter on top. I lined my lower rim with CoverGirl‘s Liquidline Blast in Black Fire and applied Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara to my lashes

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: MAC Ripe Peach
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Nude with NYX Butter Gloss in Peaches and Cream on top

This look was created as a guest post on Jodi’s blog; Up The Rollercoaster. The theme was red, white and pink. So I opted for a more neon shade of pink to suit my fancy. Most of the colours used are from my Morphe palette, but since they have no true names, I just used colour names to describe them.

womf_vol33_look2-2

Eyes

First off, I applied an eyeshadow primer, then layered NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk all over the lid. Pat that in, then proceed:

  1. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee through the crease.
  2. White on the inner third of the eye, brought heavily around the inner tearduct.
  3. Neon Pink on the middle of the lid.
  4. Black on the outer half of the eye and lightly through the crease to tie it all together.
  5. Pale beige on the brow bone.

I used Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper to create the wing on the upper lash line, then used MAC‘s Phone Number pencil lightly on the outer corner of the lower lash line. On my lashes is Too Faced‘s Better Than Sex mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat
  • Highlighter: Hard Candy Tiki
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Ruby (this was applied lightly, rubbed onto the lips with my finger and then blotted off with a tissue – I wanted it to be more of a stain than a flat out lipstick)

My St. Patrick’s Day Look

I’m a nutter for St. Patrick’s Day. A great deal of my family tree is Irish, I’m overly obsessed with the colour green and don’t even get me started on how much I love clovers…

So when St. Patrick’s Day rolls around in March, I get a bit overexcited. I put up my clover wreath on the door to the apartment, I sign up for St. Patrick’s Day themed races (that post is coming on Friday), start pulling out all my green makeup and clothes and…  green food colouring. I liked my green-hued makeup quite  bit yesterday so I thought I’d let you know what I wore.

Just the day before, I had watched Sharon Farrell’s St. Patrick’s Day tutorial and decided to take some inspiration from her application and products. I didn’t have a ton of time in the morning (since I did this before work), so I took a few shortcuts.

The look focuses primarily on the halo effect that seems to be quite popular lately. Basically it boils down to a dark shadow applied to the inner and outer corners of the eye and lower lash line, with a brighter colour in the middle.

Eyes

  1. I first applied Maybelline‘s Color Tattoo in Mossy Green to the outer and inner corners of my lid. I then layered MAC‘s Greensmoke on top of the Color Tattoo and blended through the crease to connect the sides. Be sure to leave a blank spot in the middle of your lid.
  2. On the middle of the lid I applied MAC‘s Bio Green and blended it out intoGreensmoke.
  3. On my brow bone is Wet n Wild‘s Brule.

I applied the same shades to my lower lash line, and ran Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner along my lower lash line. On my lashes is Make Up For Ever‘s Smoky Stretch mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: MAC Warm Soul
  • Lips: Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Coralista

Armed with green everything, my husband and I hit up Stout in Cabbagetown (highly recommended, we’ve been going there since they opened several years back). I’m glad we got there when we did, because even with very little line ahead of us, it still took us about an hour to get in! Thankfully, there was a tent outside where they were serving a few beers (and dying them green if you wanted… which, OF COURSE, I did). We eventually got inside, had some more green beer and some great food, although we didn’t really stay all that long (we’re not in our twenties anymore, Toto!).

I finished off the night with a couple of glasses of green wine at home while watching Top Gear. (Yeah, the idea of green wine kind of made my stomach turn too, but it really didn’t taste any different!) Did you get up to anything for St. Patrick’s Day?

What’s On My Face – Volume 32

I have more of a backlog of looks than I thought I would since lately I’ve been reaching for a lot of the same products (I’m looking at you Naked 3). Thankfully the days are getting longer so I’m able to take pictures before I head off to work in the morning. One day I’ll actually invest in proper lights.

….one day.

I snatched up the Viva Glam Rihanna 2 lipstick when I realized that Miley Cyrus was infiltrating MAC and it wouldn’t be long before they completely stopped selling the shade. It’s a weird grey-brown, but it’s unlike anything I own (or have even ever worn). I even wore it to work – where, surprisingly, a lot of people actually said it looked blue. Not sure I see that, but I was a lot more comfortable wearing it than I thought I would be!

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Unexpected through the crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Mesmerized on the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Drama Queen in the outer corner.
  4. Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean on the brow bone.

On my lashes is Too Faced Better Than Sex.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat
  • Highlighter: Hard Candy Tiki
  • Lips: MAC Viva Glam Rihanna 2

I’m not sure I had much inspiration with this one… I just wanted to use some colours I hadn’t yet worked into a look yet. I love the vibrancy though!

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Poolside on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Caitlin Rose on the outer corner.
  3. Makeup Geek Rock Star through the top of the crease.
  4. Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean on the brow bone.

I used Tarte‘s Black gel liner to create the wing and applied Too Faced Better Than Sexmascara to my lashes.

Orangey-red lips are not typically my thing, so I did an easy matte eyelook to ease myself into it. Plus I just love the texture of Laura Mercier‘s eyeshadows so really… any excuse to use them!

womf_vol32_look3-2

Eyes

  1. Laura Mercier Morning Dew on the inner half of the lid and on the brow bone.
  2. Laura Mercier Deep Night on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Laura Mercier Stone Taupe through the crease.

Once again, Tarte‘s gel liner in Black was used to create the wing and Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara is on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Laura Mercier Rose Gold
  • Lips: MAC Barbecue

Playing around with some of my MAC shadows that I hadn’t touched in a while.

womf_vol32_look4-2

Eyes

  1. MAC Amber Lights on the inner half of the lid with MAC Gorgeous Gold patted on top.
  2. MAC Landscape Green pigment on the outer half of the lid.
  3. MAC Greensmoke through the crease.

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara is on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

Totally random, but I decided to do a two-colour wing last weekend. I was pleased with how well this came out!

womf_vol32_look5-2

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Rock Star all over the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Pop Culture with Caitlin Rose layered on top.
  3. Makeup Geek Unexpected through the crease.
  4. Wet n Wild Brulee on the brow bone.

To create the wing, I first created a thicker than normal wing with NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Silver then used Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper to create a very small wing along the lash line. On my lashes is Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Illamasqua Hussy
  • Highlighter: MAC Silver Dusk

February 2015 Favourites

201502_favourites

I feel like I haven’t had a lot of consistent favourites in the last two months. I think it’s because I keep reaching for different makeup combinations, which means I really don’t use the same products very often. I do have a few however, but it’s mostly because they’re shiny and new to me!

Elizabeth Mott – Lash Card
Elizabeth Mott – Lash Card

But let’s first start with the gross one. This is a well-loved Lash Card by Elizabeth Mott that I think a friend gave to me because she wasn’t using them. And I can’t tell you how OFTEN I use them – near daily really. I’m awful at applying mascara – I tend to get it everywhere on my lid and nothing seems to prevent me from doing so except for these.

Take card. Apply to lid.
Take card. Apply to lid.

These go on your eyelid in the most unflattering way, but as you can tell from the mascara build up left behind, they save my eyelids from complete and utter destruction. They’re really just a piece of flexible cardboard — a business card would do the same thing — but the shape of these is perfect for fitting around the curve of your eyelid.

(And, by the way, when you look in the mirror it says “Lash Card” the right way, I didn’t flip these photos!)

MAC – Kinky
MAC – Kinky

I wore MAC‘s Kinky (which I won in a giveaway on Swatch and Review) for three straight days this past month and I can’t ever remember the last time I did that with *any* lip product. It’s bright red, flat matte and stays put until I take it off. Using this lipstick made me realize how much I really love MAC‘s Retro Matte formula, which leads me to my next item…

MAC – Relentlessly Red
MAC – Relentlessly Red

This colour is everything to me right now. MAC‘s Relentlessly Red is another lipstick in the retro matte formula and it’s beyond stunning. It’s a pinky-red and vibrant as all hell. I wasn’t entirely sure it was that flattering on me, but I got a few compliments from people so I guess that’s saying something!

201502_favourites_mac_kinky_relentlesslyred_swatch

And just for comparison, here’s Kinky and Relentlessly Red beside each other. Kinky is very, very similar to MAC‘s Russian Red, so if you missed out on the limited release of Kinky, you can still pick up a similar colour. Relentlessly Red, however, is available in MAC‘s regular lipstick lineup so snag it whenever you want!

Another short but sweet month!

What I Bought This Month – February 2015 Haul

February turned out to be a month full of MAC purchases. I hadn’t planned it really, but there was one item in particular that I wanted to pick up (hell yes RIPE PEACH re-release!), and it kind of snowballed from there!

MAC – Kinky (free)
MAC – Kinky (free)

To start it off though (and really, I think I can hold this fully accountable for some of these purchases), I have MAC‘s limited edition release of Kinky. I won this lipstick on Julie’s blog (Swatch and Review) in a giveaway. The shade is similar to Russian Red (which I’m getting down to the end of), but it’s in their (new?) Retro Matte formula. While slightly drying, the retro matte formula doesn’t feel quite as dry as other mattes I’ve owned. The formula has spurred me on to make more purchases of shades in the Retro Matte formula because I love the longevity that it seems to have on my lips.

Makeup Revolution – Emerald Goddess (free)
Makeup Revolution – Emerald Goddess (free)

Along with the lipstick, Julie snuck in a foiled eyeshadow from Makeup Revolution inEmerald Goddess. I haven’t tried it yet, so I can’t offer much insight. At first glance, however, the shade is lovely and I’m curious to see how it works in conjunction with the mixing medium that’s also provided with the product. These seem near identical to Stila‘s foiled eyeshadow release, although I’ve not tried those.

MAC Ripe Peach ($39 CAD)
MAC Ripe Peach ($39 CAD)

I knew I was going to buy this. There was no getting around it. I have been DYING to get my hands on MAC‘s Ripe Peach Ombre Blush for four years now. FOUR YEARS. I refused to pay the astronomical prices on Ebay (over $100 I think) and so I sat and waited. And waited. And I watched the years slip by before this damn thing got released again! But finally… it did with the MAC Toledo collection. So I did the nutbar thing and I ran to MAC on the morning of release and snatched it up. And I’m glad I did because it was sold out the very next day!

MAC Prep + Prime Lip ($19 CAD)
MAC Prep + Prime Lip ($19 CAD)

You’ve seen this before in my hauls, so it’s nothing new. I needed a new MAC Prep + Prime Lips because the one I keep at the office was running low (I keep one at home and one at work). This keeps my lip product in place and prevents that awful lip line bleedout that I’m prone to.

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna 2 ($19 CAD)
MAC Viva Glam Rihanna 2 ($19 CAD)

I bought this because I freaked out when the Miley Cyrus Viva Glam lipstick got released. I kept meaning to pick up Viva Glam Rihanna 2, but kept putting it off. So when I eventually went to the counter to get it, the woman told me they weren’t allowed to sell it anymore! What the hell? Like, she was implying they physically had it on site, but she could not sell it to me at all and that I’d have to order it through their web site. Excuse me? How stupid is that? Anyway, I ordered it online and had it shipped for free with a code. So they sent me an enormous box… with a single lipstick in it. Ridiculous.  ANYWAY. This is by far my most adventurous lipstick, but I did stick to my guns and wore it to work. Oddly, I got told two or three times that it looked BLUE on me, something I’m still rather confused by as it’s very decidedly a grey-brown. I’m not sure how often I’ll wear it, but I like owning it because it’s very different from anything else I own. (And no, it’s not flattering, but it sure is interesting.)

MAC – Relentlessly Red (free, Back 2 MAC)
MAC – Relentlessly Red (free, Back 2 MAC)

Are we noticing a trend yet? I really did go hogwild at MAC this month. I picked up Relentlessly Red because it looked STUNNING on Sharon Farrell and she is far and above my most beloved YouTuber (here’s the video she used it in). This shade veers pink on my lips (as it does her) and I appreciate that because I didn’t need another “almost red” in my life. It’s another lipstick in the Retro Matte formula which means it stays in place like nobody’s business. It’s also not dissimilar to Too Faced‘s Melted Candy which makes me love it all the more. I’m really looking forward to wearing the bejesus out of this shade in the spring and summer (not that it’s stopping me from wearing it now).

MAC – Barbecue ($21 CAD)
MAC – Barbecue ($21 CAD)

And lastly… another Retro Matte lipstick from MAC. This time from the Toledo collection. I had fallen oddly in love with the packaging for the Toledo collection (after having spent months thinking it was tacky as all hell) and loved the name of the lipstick calledBarbecue. It’s a red that swerves orange on my lips and was one of the more unique shades out of the collection. It’s not a shade that’s especially flattering on me, but I find it a nice change from my usual colours.

That’s it for the month. I was surprised how much I picked up from MAC because I’ve been opting for other brands over the last year or so. They have, however, definitely sucked me back in with this retro matte lipstick formula!
