St. Patrick’s Day Makeup Ideas

Aside from Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day is my absolute favourite “holiday”. I tend to do a lot of green looks in general, but I thought I’d do a few more and compile them together for a post specifically dedicated to the holiday of all things green!

20140307_look4.1

Dark forest green with a hint of glitter. One of the stronger looks in this post and heck… you really can’t go wrong with glitter!

20140307_look4.2

Eyes:

  1. I first lined my lower lashline thickly with MAC Feline Kohl Power pencil and smudged it out into a really messy, thick line.
  2. Too Faced Evergreen was placed all over the lid, on top of the black liner.
  3. Sleek Fern in the outer corner.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee at the top of the crease.

MAC Shroom was used to highlight the browbone. On the lower lashline I smudged Evergreen on the outer half and then used some Too Faced Glitter Glue on the inner half and appliedToo Faced Glamour Dust in Glampire on top of the glue. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: Tarte Blissful
  • Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Maple Blondie

20140307_look1.1

I’m amazed and pleased with just how well this one turned out. Usually I would reverse the colours (gold on the inside, colour on the outside), but I decided I need to actually learn to play with my makeup a little bit more. And I’m happy I did because I think this is really beautiful.

20140307_look1.2

Eyes:

  1. MUA Shade 26 Pearl all over the lid.
  2. Urban Decay Half Baked in the outer corner and into the crease.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee through the crease.
  4. Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear barely tapped into the very outer corner to make it a touch bit deeper.

MAC Shroom on the browbone and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes.

20140307_look2.1

This is a bit more “typical” St. Patrick’s Day look for me (gold on the inner lid, green on the outside).

20140307_look2.2

Eyes:

  1. L’Oreal Infallible in Goldmine on the inner third of the lid.
  2. MAC Golden Olive pigment on the center of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Dirty Martini on the outer third of the lid and dragged lightly through the entire crease.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee at the top of the crease.

MAC Rice Paper to highlight the browbone. On the lower lid, Goldmine on the inner half and Dirty Martini on the outer half. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
Blush: MAC Petal Power
Lips: Sephora Color Reveal Balm in Unique Pink

20140307_look5.1

Even though this showed up pretty vibrantly on camera, I’d recommend using a white base (which I didn’t do) in order to brighten the colours up a bit more. I found the colours faded a bit throughout the day and the white base may help to keep the shadows intact.

20140307_look5.2

Eyes: (all Makeup Geek)

  1. Fuji all over the lid.
  2. Dirty Martini on the outer corner and through the crease.
  3. Creme Brulee to blend out the crease.

MAC Shroom on the browbone. Dirty Martini smudged very slightly on the outer corner of the lower lashline. Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
Highlighter: MAC Silver Dusk
Blush: Joe Fresh Apricot (cream)
Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie

20140307_look3.1

I love this look, but damn does it ever look not great in close ups. You’ll also notice that the liner is completely covered in the eyeshadow… this seemingly can’t be helped whenever I wear shiny liquid liners as it just picks up the shadow from my lid when my eyes are open.

Also… tell me how much you love my shirt. 😉

Eyes: Using the Wet n Wild I Dream of Greenie trio, follow the instructions!

  1. Eyelid shade all over the lid and the inner half of the lower lid.
  2. Crease shade in the outer corner and through the crease and on the outer half of the lower lid.

And, obviously, the Browbone shade to highlight the brow. Make Up For Ever Aqualiner in 13 Black to create the wing (although honestly, I’m so irritated with this liner that I’d recommend using a matte black one that won’t cause so much eyeshadow transfer to the liner). L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

Foundation: Covergirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in Shade 51 Light Vanilla mixed together
Blush: Illamasqua Hussy
Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu

What’s On My Face – Volume 10

More makeup looks I’ve done over the past few weeks ranging from stuff I wore to work, out to a bar or was just headed over to a friend’s place! I was really happy with this set of looks and I hope you enjoy them.

As a note, I’ve switched to NARS‘ Pro Prime eyeshadow primer, so that’s what I use in all of my looks now unless otherwise stated.

20140205_look1.1

I loooove this one! It took me a lot more time to put this one together because I don’t normally get this creative and use so many shadows. (Seriously, if you haven’t noticed, I tend to stick to about two lid colours!) I don’t typically wear this much shadow/liner under my eyes on a regular basis because holy hell is that area ever sensitive on me and I usually end up with very watery eyes. This frustrates me because I realize just how much a makeup look comes together when you shade under your eyes!

Anyway, moving on.

With this, I had one goal: I wanted to use the MUFE rainbow glitter that I had picked up last month. I also hadn’t done purple look in quite a while so I figured this was as good a time as any.

20140205_look1.2

Eyes: I first applied NYX‘s Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil in Milk all over the lid as a base.

  1. The first colour from a ginormous Sephora eyeshadow palette I have that unfortunately does not have shade names, however, the colour is very similar to MAC‘s Crystal. Essentially, the colour is a very pale lilac shade with a bit of a sheen to it. This shade was placed on the inner half of the lid.
  2. I then used MAC Dame’s Desire right beside the previous shadow, but not all the way out to the corner.
  3. Sleek Sugarlite was blended heavily into the upper crease.
  4. Sleek Highness filled in the outer corner, with;
  5. Sleek Noir at the very edge of the outer lashline to darken up that area.
  6. I then used MAC Vellum to highlight the inner corner of the eye and blended it into the pale purple.

MAC Blanc Type  to highlight the browbone with MAC Omega on my brows. On the lower lashline, I used Sugarlite to line the outer half of the lid, then applied some Too Faced Glitter Glue to the inner half of the lid and tapped on Make Up For Ever‘s Glitters 13 (silver rainbow glitter) on top of the glue. I lined the upper lashline with MUFE‘s Aqua Liner in 13 Blackand used MAC‘s Feline Kohl Power pencil on the lower waterline. And finally, I finished up the eyes with some Ardell‘s 102 Demis and applied  L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla
  • Bronzer: Revlon Photoready Bronzer in Bronzed & Chic
  • Blush: Tarte Exposed with Illamasqua Hussy layered on top
  • Highlighter: MAC Silver Dusk
  • Lips: I’m not wearing it in the picture, but I wore Rimmel Apocalips in Celestial out that night.
  • Extra: I used MAC‘s Select Coverup in NW20 under my eyes and set it with Laura Mercier

20140205_look2.1

It was just one of those mornings when I had no idea what to wear and just happened to look into the tub that contains all of my mineralize eyeshadows. Although it’s beautiful, I rarely use this shadow. A word to the wise though, this can apply really patchy and can flake off at a moment’s notice. Beautiful end result, however.

20140205_look2.2

Eyes:

  1. With a dampened, flat, stiff makeup brush, I packed (and I do mean packed) on MAC Blue Flame all over my entire lid. You may will likely need to layer this.
  2. I then blended Makeup Geek Creme Brulee into the crease.

I also lined the outer third of my bottom lashline with the Blue Flame as well. Too Faced‘s Cream Colored Ponies on my browbone and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • No foundation, bronzer or highlighter.
  • Blush: Illamasqua – Hussy
  • Lips: MAC – Shy Girl

20140205_look5.1

Obligatory neutral eye look, using the Too Faced A Few of my Favorite Things palette.

20140205_look5.2

Eyes: (Urban Decay Primer Potion as a primer for this one!)

  1. Too Faced Snowflakes all over the lid.
  2. Too Faced Buche de Noel slightly into the outer corner.
  3. Too Faced Woolen Mittens on the outer corner and blended into the crease.

I did the winged liner with MAC‘s Dipdown fluidline. Too Faced Cream Colored Ponies to highlight the brow with  L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on the lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: MUA Matte foundation in Shade 1 Soft Sand
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: Errr no idea. Maybe nothing?
  • Lips: MAC Boldly Bare lipliner with MAC Viva Glam Cyndi on top

20140205_look4.1

This look features Jealousy Wakes, the eyeshadow created by Christine (Temptalia) for MAC. Unfortunately it was limited edition (boy, was it EVER) and it sold out almost instantly back when it was released. It’s a beautiful shade and this is my default look when I want to wear that shadow.

20140205_look4.2

Eyes: (Again with UDPP)

  1. MAC Vex, inner two thirds.
  2. MAC Jealousy Wakes, outer corner and into the crease.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee throughout the crease.

MAC Brule to highlight the brow and  L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: MUA Matte foundation in Shade 1 Soft Sand
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: Physicians Formula – Natural
  • Highlighter: Dior Amber Diamond
  • Lips: MAC Petting Pink Lip Conditioner

20140205_look3.1

A shame the sparkles don’t show up more – I was going for a wintry snowfall at night look.

20140205_look3.2

Eyes:

  1. MAC Crystal Avalanche on the inner two-thirds of the lid.
  2. MAC Print on the outer third.

Although it is incredibly difficult to see in the photograph (which is very frustrating to me), I did layer Illamasqua‘s Beguile pigment on top of Crystal Avalanche. Rest assured that it showed up much better in person.

I used KIKO‘s Twinkle Eye Pencil in 06 (I really need to use this more, it’s fantastic) on the lower lashline. The upper winged lined was created with MAC Blacktrack fluidline. I appliedToo Faced Better Than Sex mascara to both sets of lashes and ran some MAC Omega through my brows. (The brows really never change, I’ll probably stop repeating this…)

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: MUA BB Cream in Light mixed with some moisturizer
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: MAC Warm Soul
  • Highlighter: MAC Silver Dusk
  • Lips: Nothing – was heading out to eat so I didn’t see the point!

I’m pretty pleased in the makeup department lately… most of my looks have been suitable enough to post on here and I had about 15 or so looks to choose from for this post! Pretty happy with that because sometimes I can get a nasty streak where I don’t like anything I applied at all for several days. (That’ll make for an interesting post some day.

What’s On My Face – Volume 9

New year, new looks! And I’ve got plenty of new goodies to play with that I’ve accumulated over the holiday season!20140124_look1.1

I love this one so much. Everyone has gone insane over rose-gold everything and I think I’m starting to see why. This was a makeup combination that just made me feel like I looked especially pretty. I’m also having a love affair with Makeup Geek’s Bitten and I’m more than happy to use it constantly on my eyes!

20140124_look1.2

Eyes:

  1. L’Oreal Amber Rush all over the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Bitten in the outer corner and crease.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee at the top of the crease to blend the two lid shades together.

MAC Brule was used to highlight my brow. I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in 13 Black to create the wing and applied L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara to my top lashes. For brows, I used MAC Omega.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation in 51 Light Vanilla
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronzer Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: Cargo Mendocino
  • Highlighter: Dior Amber Diamond
  • Lips: MAC Dark Side

20140124_look2.1

Good grief do I ever love this one too! I can’t claim ownership though, I relied on Shaanxo’s video for inspiration. Anything with neon (not to mention neon AND green) and I’m a total sucker for it.

20140124_look2.2

Eyes: I first applied NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk all over the lid and blended it out with my finger. I also brought it down below the inner tearduct as well.

  1. Using the white from Sleek‘s Acid palette, I applied that all over the inner third of the eyelid, bringing it down around my inner tearduct.
  2. With the same Sleek palette, I used the neon green shade and patted that on the center of my lid. (This took a lot of layers in order to get it to be so vibrant!)
  3. Using MAC‘s Greensmoke, I placed it in the outer corner of my lid and tried to blend it as best as I could with the neon shade (wasn’t that easy and I don’t think I was overly successful).
  4. I then used MAC‘s Cork through the crease.

Brule was used to highlight the brow and MAC Omega was used on my brows. I used Make Up For Ever‘s Aqua Liner in 13 Black to do my winged liner and applied L’OrealVoluminous Carbon Black mascara to my upper and lower lashes. For the lower lash line, I used a bit of Greensmoke on the outer corner, then lined my inner waterline with NYX‘s Milk(which actually had decent longevity!).

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shade 51 Light Vanilla
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: Joe Fresh cream blush in Apricot
  • Highlighter: Hard Candy Tiki
  • Lips: NYX‘s Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie

20140124_look3.1

This look came about as I was trying to use products that I had bought, but hadn’t used yet. The primary inspiration came from MUA‘s Shade 9 which is one of the most beautiful duochromes I’ve ever owned. Unfortunately, I’m not keen on how the blue turned out, as it applied rather chalkily.

20140124_look3.2

Eyes: I used Urban Decay‘s Eden primer this time as opposed to my usual Original one. In retrospect, that was a stupid idea considering I was using a very shimmery shadow and Eden is a very flat, very matte primer.

  1. MUA Shade 9 Pearl on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Neptune on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brulee in the crease.

MAC Brule was used to highlight my brow with MAC Omega through my brows. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on my upper lashes with MAC‘s Blacktrack fluidline to create the winged liner.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: MUA BB Cream in Light
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush: Tarte Exposed
  • Highlighter/Powder: Hourglass Ambient Lightning Powder in Ethereal
  • Lips: Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee

20140124_look4.1

Heh, I’m not even sure what to say about this one. *I* think it’s rather bland, but looks like this tend to be when I get the most compliments. I wanted to use the Naked 3 palette and dip into a few products on to my “To Use Up” list. I don’t find the end result very inspirational, so when I use the Naked 3 again, I’ll definitely try out different combinations.

20140124_look4.2

Eyes: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden all over the lid. All shadows are from the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette:

  1. Burnout on the inner two-thirds of the lid.
  2. Factory on the outer third of the lid.
  3. Limit through the crease

I used Strange as a brow highlight and applied Blackheart as a very thin line along my upper lash line with a faint flick at the outer edge. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on my upper and lower lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Yaby Foundation in Buff
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium
  • Blush:  Tarte – Dollface and Dazzled mixed together
  • Highlighter:  Hard Candy Tiki
  • Lips: Revlon Lip Butter in Red Velvet with Creamsicle layered on top.

20140124_look5.1

I had to laugh at this one… I didn’t intend for this to come out nearly as dark as it did, or nearly as ridiculously bright on the lips… for a weekend brunch. While I was also wearing workout clothes. Hah. Ah well.

20140124_look5.2

Eyes: Maybelline‘s Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze was applied all over the lid, keeping it below the crease. On top of that I layered:

  1. Inglot 152 Shine over the entire eyelid.
  2. Laura Mercier Bamboo on the outer corner of the lid.
  3. Laura Mercier Espresso was used to blend out the crease and pull the shadows out at the corner of my eye into a slight V shape.

MAC Brule to highlight the brow with MAC Omega through the brows. Bamboo and Espresso were mixed together to line the lower lashline. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara were applied to upper and lower lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl CC Cream in 110 Classic Ivory
  • Bronzer: Revlon Photoready in Bronzed & Chic
  • Blush: Tarte Exposed
  • Lips: Revlon Cherries in the Snow

What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag – Christmas 2013

201312_travel_makeup_bag1

On Saturday morning I’ll be flying to Ottawa for a week off work to celebrate Christmas with my family. Since I love looking in other people’s makeup bags, I thought I’d share with you what beauty goodies I’m bringing with me on the trip.

Too Faced – A Few of my Favorite Things palette
Too Faced – A Few of my Favorite Things palette

Now this is a bit controversial for me! Ever since I first got my hands on the Urban DecayNaked palette several years ago, it has been an absolute must have in every makeup bag I have ever brought with me on vacation. That being said, there are a lot of similar shades in the Too Faced palette, as well as several fun colours that give me a lot more options.

Too Faced – A Few of my Favorite Things palette
Too Faced – A Few of my Favorite Things palette

Plus, with two blushes and two bronzers, it makes this a very easy palette to take on vacation. While the palette is quite slim and layed out nicely, it’s also rather large, which makes it a bit cumbersome for some vacations so I wouldn’t necessarily bring it on an international vacation. However, for going back to Ottawa, this looks like it’ll be a fun palette to play with for the week.

Jack Black Lip Balm in Natural Mint, MAC Prep + Prime for Lips, MAC Brick Lip Pencil, MAC Russian Red lipstick, Revlon Cherries in the Snow lipstick and NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee
Jack Black Lip Balm in Natural Mint, MAC Prep + Prime for Lips, MAC Brick Lip Pencil, MAC Russian Red lipstick, Revlon Cherries in the Snow lipstick and NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee

My choice of lip products basically covers any type of makeup situation I could possibly need to cover while on vacation. The Jack Black lip balm isn’t particularly a favourite, but it’s an easy “go to” when I need something to take care of my lips if they get dry in the cold winter months. And since I’ll be doing a lot of snowboarding while on vacation, I’ll definitely need this while out on the mountain.

NYX‘s Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee is my absolute favourite gloss at the moment. It’s an easy shade to wear which makes it a very easy choice when I was packing up my makeup bag.

MAC Russian Red, Revlon Cherries in the Snow, NYX Creme Brulee
MAC Russian Red, Revlon Cherries in the Snow, NYX Creme Brulee

Of course I’m bringing along MAC‘s Prep + Prime for lips as I absolutely must have it if I’m going to be applying any kind of lipstick. MAC Russian Red lipstick and MAC Brick lip pencil are a combination that I use quite often around the holiday season. I just love this shade of red, and to me it just screams “Christmas”. And in case I don’t feel like wearing matte red lips, I’m also bringing along Revlon‘s Cherries in the Snow which is a very deep, vibrant pink shade.

MAC Blacktrack Fluidline, L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara (waterproof formula), Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original and MAC Omega eyeshadow
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline, L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara (waterproof formula), Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original and MAC Omega eyeshadow

I do a lot of winged liner and lately my preference has been to use a gel liner – so for that I’m bringing along MAC‘s Blacktrack fluidline.  The other eye products I’m bringing are items that I use daily: L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara in the waterproof formula, Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original to keep my eyeshadow from creasing and MAC Omega eyeshadow to fill in my eyebrows.

Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Exposed and Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Hot Tamale
Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Exposed and Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Hot Tamale

Hard Candy‘s “bronzer” in Tiki wouldn’t be a bronzer on anyone’s skintone – instead it’s a beautiful highlight shade with a slight golden/yellow sheen. This highlighter isn’t particularly shiny or shimmery, so it’s an beautiful shade to wear on a daily basis.

The two blush compacts I’m taking are my usual vacation staples. Tarte‘s Exposed is my most used, most loved blush that goes with absolutely any eye look I create. Maybelline‘sHot Tamale cream blush is for when I want that extra brightness on the cheeks. I most like this shade for making my cheeks look like I’ve been outside in the cold weather.

Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehab 2 in 1 Foundation (CC Cream) in 110 Classic Ivory
Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehab 2 in 1 Foundation (CC Cream) in 110 Classic Ivory

I’m not planning on wearing a whole heck of a lot of foundation while on vacation, so this is mostly just for the days where I want to play with full face makeup. Covergirl‘s “CC Cream” helps even out my skin tone and since it has a pump, this was an easy choice.

MAC Turquatic
MAC Turquatic

MAC Turquatic is my most compact bottle of perfume and fits nicely into the makeup bag I’m bringing with me. I’ve been wearing this perfume for a few years now (it was replacement  signature scent after Michael Kors stopped making the original Islandperfume). While I love the scent, I will say that the lasting power isn’t the best although that doesn’t stop me from re-purchasing this scent time after time.

201312_travel_makeup_bag2

Miraculously, all of that makeup fits in this Too Faced makeup bag that came with the “A Few of my Favorite Things” palette.  It’s a pretty tight fit though and unfortunately my makeup brushes won’t fit in there so I’ll probably throw them all in a small ziploc bag that I’m sure will end up buried at the bottom of my suitcase!

What’s On My Face – Volume 7

Lately I found I had been wearing far too many neutral looks and I was boring myself with my makeup in the morning. Neutral colours are so easy and safe to play with… but they just don’t get me excited. When I wear something more vibrant on my eyes, I actually feel better. I can’t explain it any better than that really. Colour makes me happy!

20131217_inglot1

I *love* this one. It’s not particularly hard to achieve, I just think it’s the colour combination that I love so much. Excuse the derp face – I find if I smile in pictures, my eyes crinkle up too much to actually show what the shadows look like on a full face shot!

20131217_inglot2

Eyes:

  1. Inglot AMC Shine 15 (shimmery orange) all over the inner two-thirds of the lid.
  2. Inglot Matte 382 (matte red) on the outer third of the lid and blended slightly into the crease.
  3. Urban Decay Naked in the crease to blend all the colours together.

MAC Brule was used to highlight my brow. And, of course, I used MAC Blacktrack fluidline to create the wing and applied L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara to my top lashes. For brows, I used MAC Omega.

Rest of the Face: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation in 52 Vanilla with Revlon‘sBronzed & Chic bronzer on the high points of my face. I used Tarte Charisma on my cheeks and since that blush has enough shimmer to it, I didn’t bother with a highlighter. On my lips is Benefit Ultra Plush Gloss in Coralista.

20131217_mac1

I wore this one out to a (friend of a) friend’s Christmas party. Red, gold, false lashes. All the staples of holiday season makeup!

20131217_mac2

Eyes: To make the white-gold eyeshadow show up better, I have to lay down a white base. For that I use NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk. Make sure to keep the white base below the crease and also blend it out so you don’t have any harsh lines.

  1. On the inner two-thirds of the lid, pack on the white-gold shade in MAC‘s Illusionary: Burning Ambition duo (limited edition from several years ago). And when I say pack it on, I mean, PACK it on. This stuff is fallout city and gets everywhere, but it’s really way too pretty to ignore.
  2. Using the brown side of that same duo, apply it to the outer third of the lid and sweep it through the crease.
  3. Using the white-gold shade again, use it to highlight your brow and to blend out the brown shade in the crease. This is a LOT of shimmer and it may even be overkill for some people. You’ll notice that the brow ends up being more gold, while the lid colour is has more of a white-cast due to the base that we put down.

I used MAC Dipdown fluidline to create the wing and applied L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara to my lashes. False eyelashes are Ardell Demis applied with Duo adhesive.

Lips: Since the eyes are so shimmery, I stuck with a matte red. I used MAC Brick lipliner to line and fill in my lips, then followed it up with MAC Russian Red lipstick.

Rest of the Face: Foundation is Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 52 Vanilla. I used Joe FreshSand bronzer to contour since it’s matte.  On my cheeks is Tarte Exposed.

20131217_sleek1

With this one I just knew I wanted it to be bright! I also tend to get stuck in ruts and keep re-using the same colour combinations because I generally know they’ll work. While trying to break out of that rut, I ended up going with a fail-safe colour palette anyway. Whoops!

20131217_sleek2

Eyes:

  1. From the MUA Pretty Pastels palette, I applied the second shade from the left on the bottom row all on the inner half of my lid. The shade looks rather peach in the pan, but as you can see, it came out almost white.
  2. Using the Sleek Acid palette, I applied the first shade on the top row (a fuchsia pink) to the outer half of my lid and pulled it through the crease.  Then, using the same palette;
  3. I took the bright purple colour directly below the fuchsia and dabbed it right in the outer corner of my eye, on top of the fuchsia. You’ll need to blend some of the edges otherwise it’ll be pretty stark.
  4. I then used Urban Decay Naked to very lightly blend out the bright fuchsia.

As per usual, I used MAC Brule to highlight my brow. Followed it up with MAC Blacktrack as my liner and L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara. MAC Omega was used to fill in my brows.

No full face for this one because I was only messing around. I wanted to play around with my Too Faced A Few of my Favorite Things palette and then it kind of developed into this glitter bomb.

I first used NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow pencil in Black Bean and applied it all over the lid as a base. I then;

  1. applied Too Faced Party Time on the inner half of my lid (this really needs some kind of coloured based or it’ll apply very, very sheer). I really packed this one on.
  2. Too Faced Soiree was applied to the outer half of the lid and through the crease. I didn’t use a blending shade to fade this colour out, instead I very slowly blended it up through the crease. I also used this shade on my lower lashline.
  3. I don’t usually number my liner in my diagrams, but there were a few steps involved with this one. I first created an inner and outer wing with Maybelline‘s black gel liner. With the inner half of the wing, I made sure to do it far out enough so that I could leave a gap near my inner tearduct and drew the line right back to my lower waterline, creating a small triangle. After the gel liner had set, I use Too Faced Glitter Glue and went over top of the liner. Once that became tacky, I used MAC Reflects Glitter in Transparent Teal and placed it on top of the liner.

I used MAC Feline Kohl Power pencil to line my upper and lower waterlines. I appliedL’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara heavily to my upper and lower lashes. The small crystal was from some set that I got at Michael’s a few years ago and I stuck it to inner corner of my eye with some Duo clear lash adhesive.
