What I Bought This Month – March 2017 Haul

My haul is a little bit early this month for two reasons:

  1. I don’t anticipate myself buying anything more in the month of March (and even if I do, I’ll just hold it over till April).
  2. I didn’t have a review ready for today, so I thought I’d slot this in early!

Too Faced Peanut Butter & Honey

The one thing I was the most excited for was definitely the brand new limited edition Too Faced Peanut Butter and Honey palette. I have fallen deeply in love with its predecessor, the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette, and I was sooo anxious to get my hands on this one!

Too Faced Peanut Butter and Honey
Too Faced Peanut Butter and Honey (free – gift)

It’s an Ulta exclusive, so my wonderful friend Sara in Baltimore picked it up for me as a gift and shipped it up here! Sadly… the quality is nowhere near what the PB&J palette was and although I’ve only used it twice now, I’ve been very sad with how it performed. 🙁 Ah well, you can’t love them all!

Cupcake Bath Fizzy - Birthday Cake (free - gift)
Cupcake Bath Fizzy – Birthday Cake (free – gift)

Alongside the PB & Honey palette, Sara sent along a few more gift items (we exchange Christmas gifts) and this adorable cupcake bath fizzy was one of them. I’ve always been intrigued by these kind of cake looking bath bombs, but haven’t ever used one yet!

Philosophy - The Land of Sweets (free - gift)
Philosophy – The Land of Sweets (free – gift)

And the last item Sara put in my gift was this trio of Philosophy shower gels. I’ve mentioned before that I definitely do not need anymore shower gels in my life but I had told her how much I loved the holiday Philosophy ones so she grabbed me up a sweet set! I know I’ve used the Candy Cane one before, but I’m excited to try the other two scents since they’re completely new to me!

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponges (~$8.99 USD)
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponges (~$8.99 USD)

Since there were a few sales on at Ulta, Sara offered to grab me some items I was after. I think the Real Techniques duo pack of the sponges was around $9, but I’m not entirely sure since I paid her about four months ago for it. I always have a stockpile of these becuse they are the BEST!

Too Faced Merry Macarons ($39 USD)
Too Faced Merry Macarons ($39 USD)

Another thing I snapped up (via Sara) when they went on sale for the holiday season was the Too Faced Merry Macarons set (again, another Ulta exclusive item!).

As we’re all aware now, I’ve become a rather rabid Too Faced fan so I kind of feel like I need to own every single palette they put out. (I acknowledge that this is not only an expensive habit, but also kind of ridiculous.) It’s kind of pointless to talk about this item at this point since the holiday season is long gone, but I did buy it and just got it, so it’s worth mentioning!

And that’s it for the month! Looking back, I actually didn’t spent ANYTHING this past month – these items were all either gift products or something I paid for back in December! That’s kind of impressive actually…

Swatch Sunday: Too Faced Everything Nice

Too Faced Everything Nice

Digging through the archives here people! This is the holiday 2014 palette from Too Faced. The Everything Nice palette was very similar to the previous year’s launch (A few of my Favorite Things) and I think this was the last year they produced their holiday palettes in the USA (in my opinion, there was a decline in the quality of their holiday palettes as soon as they started to manufacture them in China).

I also think this was the last time we saw the Papa Don’t Peach blush before the 2016 re-release with the peach scent!

Too Faced Creamy Peach Oil Lip Gloss – Full Collection (Review & Swatches)

Too Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Peach Oil Lip Gloss
Too Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Peach Oil Lip Gloss

Continuing on down the path of exciting Too Faced releases, I’ve got the newly launched Sweet Peach Creamy Peach Oil Lip Glosses!

Each tube comes with 4ml/0.14fluid ounce of product in a gorgeous colour coded tube and outer packaging. One of the most enticing things about this Sweet Peach launch is that these lip glosses smell and taste like artificial peaches. It’s a juicy, sweet, candy-like kind of artificial scent. Some people may find it overpowering (I think), but I’m in love with it!

If you’re like me and saw “Peach Oil” and assumed these would be a very sheer finish with an oily consistency… then let me correct you right away. These are fundamentally lip glosses infused with peach oil, coconut oil and vitamin E to soften and moisturize lips. And they are saturated AF with pigment! No sheer lip glosses to be found here – these pack one hell of a pigment punch!

As I’ve already mentioned, the tube handles are colour-coded to match the product inside. A lovely touch that I really feel like all brands should be doing.

Sweet Peach Emoji Mascot!

Too Faced always goes just the right amount of over the top for their packaging too: the Sweet Peach emoji dude is sitting pretty on top of all of the lip glosses as a little bubble sticker. They actually come off pretty nicely, so you could stick that happy little guy anywhere if you so desire.

As you can see from the swatches, these lip glosses pack a lot of peachy goodness pigment! The top row has your basic set of peachy nudes for those who aren’t looking for a ton of colour in their gloss, whereas the bottom row gives you more of an assortment of shades with a peachy-pink, a solid coral, an orange and in-your-face peach-red.

Before we get into the lip swatches, I have to put out an enormous thank you to Kristelle of Crystal Candy Makeup. I was super frustrated with how my face shots turned out (the green background ended up tinting my skin very green) and she offered to help me out by colour correcting them (I had tried and failed!). She said I didn’t need to thank her, but a job well done (and unexpected!) always deserves praise. Thank you Kristelle. 🙂

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for that peachy, healthy glow in a comfortable to wear lip gloss, you really don’t need to look much further than the Too Faced Creamy Peach Oil Lip Glosses. They’re not tacky or gloppy, so you needn’t worry about gross strings of lip gloss collecting anywhere on your lips. I do find some of the paler shades a touchstreaky (namely Peach Fuzz and Peach-sicle), but I’d suggest not going in with a lot of the product and you won’t have to worry about the streaks. As these are a non-tacky lip gloss, you can’t expect serious longevity with these, but I find they last just fine for about 90 minutes before I want to touch them up. They do wear off nicely though so you don’t have to be worried about some weird ring around the edge of your lips either.

Honestly, these are just a no-brainer for me. Easy to wear. Comfortable. Smell and taste good. Peach shades as far as the eye can see! My personal favourite shades are Papa Don’t Peach, Tickle-Me Peach and Peach Tease.

The Too Faced Creamy Peach Oil Lip Glosses can be purchased at sephora.ca for $24 CAD each or on sephora.com for $19 USD. If you’re an Ulta shopper, you can also snag them there as well!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow & Papa Don’t Peach (Review & Swatches)

Too Faced Sweet Peach

Too Faced Sweet Peach – the (original) eyeshadow palette launch that broke the hopes and dreams of many people out there because the demand was just too damn high for the supply they had. I was (and still am) obsessed with that eyeshadow palette – it was one of my favourite launches of 2016!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow + Papa Don't Peach

So when they decided to relaunch the eyeshadow palette as a permanent product, Too Faced also decided to expand the collection with a full range of peach lip oils (review of those coming soon), a blush/bronze/highlight palette (Sweet Peach Glow) and having a dig through their product archives to re-release the Papa Don’t Peach blush.

I was excited for the launch, but I almost wondered if it would be peach overkill. I mean, that’s a LOT of peach! But as I’ve been mentioning more and more lately – I’ve grown to almost REQUIRE scent in my products as it really elevates my mood while I’m doing my makeup. So I’ve come to the conclusion that I am 100% full steam ahead with these scented launches!

The item that had the most appealed to me when I saw the initial sneak peeks was the Sweet Peach Glow palette. It has the same metal tin packaging as the Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette – it snaps shut with a magnetic lid, has a decently sized mirror and is covered in a beautiful light to dark peach gradient.

Inside you’ve got a light beige-veering-peach highlighter, a bright peach blush and a pale, slightly warm, bronzer.

The palette does skew towards more fair-toned folk, although I think that impression is given off mostly by the bronzer which is quite pale. The peachy blush and the highlighter are definitely strong enough for medium-toned skin.

In swatches, you can see that the pigmentation is surprisingly strong (especially the bronzer – I was not expecting that!). I had read an awful lot of reviews that felt like the pigmentation of this palette was just not there, so I was really surprised when I tried it out myself because I’ve got a totally different viewpoint. The pigmentation is definitely there, but since these are more firmly packed gelee-type formula products, you need to use a stiffer brush to pick up the product.

On the face? I’m in love. I love the shade of the blush (but like… it’s coral, did you expect me to hate it?!), the bronzer is surprisingly not orange (hooray!) and the highlighter, although a bit more subtle than some of the “BAM! IN YOUR FACE!” ones that are currently on the market, is gorgeous!

The highlighter definitely provides a much softer glow and there is a very faint peachy tinge to it. LOVE!

The other powder product Sweet Peach launch item was a re-release of their Papa Don’t Peach blush. (I never owned the singular blush packaging, but I did have it in a palette, so there’s a swatch comparison below.) In sticking with the Sweet Peach theme, it also has its own tin packaging with a mirror (I’m growing more and more in love with blushes that come with a mirror – it’s just so handy).

The Papa Don’t Peach blush features a whopping 9 grams of product – which is easily three times more than your average blush!

And, of course, it’s infused with peach fragrance AND has an embossed logo (just like the Glow palette) – I mean… if that’s not love at first sight, then I don’t know what is!

I pulled out my Too Faced Everything Nice (2014 holiday) palette which has the only other copy of Too Faced‘s Papa Don’t Peach blush that I own. The shades are, of course, remarkably similar, but you will notice a slight difference in the swatch:

Both versions of Papa Don’t Peach are incredibly luminescent – this is the kind of blush you don’t really need a highlighter with because it will definitely light up your face! The older version of Papa Don’t Peach is a touch deeper in tone, maybe a hint more pink. With the new version, I see more peach and a slight bit more of a sheen. All of that being said, I really doubt you’re going to notice a discernible difference on your cheeks between the two shades!

Wearing Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach blush

I avoided applying highlighter when I used this blush just so I could see more of the product at work. In comparison to the Sweet Peach Glow blush, the Papa Don’t Peach blush is definitely less bright and deeper in tone. I did notice a lot of luminescence added to my cheeks in real life with this blush, but I’m not seeing that translated on camera.

Papa Don’t Peach is stunning – it’s an easy to apply shade that will match a wide variety of eye looks which makes this not only beautiful, but a workhorse product as well!

Final Thoughts

Both products have that luscious, juicy fake peach scent – so if you’re not a fan of scented products, I think you may struggle with these. However, for those of us who love our powder products to have a tasty scent… these are glorious!

Overall, I was extremely impressed with both the standalone Papa Don’t Peach blush, as well as the Sweet Peach Glow palette. I had seen a lot of not so favourable reviews for the Glow palette, so I was a little bit nervous to try it out. However, at first application, I loved them! I like the tone of all of the shades, and I like that the blushes can pack a pigmented punch. If, however, you’re of a far deeper skin tone, I think you’ll struggle with the Glow palette because it seems quite obvious that it caters to us paler folk. I would love to see Too Faced put out a deep version of this palette! For me though: these are absolutely stunning products and I am happy to welcome them in my Sweet Peach collection alongside the eyeshadow palette I bought early last year! <3

If you’re looking for the Too Faced Sweet Peach collection, you can snag it at Sephora (Canada/USA) or at Ulta (USA).
