What I Bought This Month – February 2016 Haul

Inglot - Duraline ($18 CAD) — Inglot – Duraline ($18 CAD)

Let’s start off with the only item I actually BOUGHT this month! Inglot‘s Duraline was a must have for me since my Inglot red gel liner turned gloppy on me. Duraline will soften up gel liners that have gone a little bit stale (or any other cream product). I’ve put off buying it for a while now, but when my red gel liner died, I knew it was time to invest. 🙂

So, that may have been the only item I bought this month, but I am very, very lucky to have a ton of beauty blogging friend in Toronto and we do swaps every few months. It gives me a chance to get rid of product that don’t work for me, and pick up ones that could potentially be love at first sight. So here’s the goodies I got from a swap:

I realize these are empty Inglot palettes, but I am SO excited for that! I love Inglot‘s system of palettes, and I think the packaging is beautiful, but it annoys me to buy packaging every time I go to buy shadows. Now I’ve got three empty palettes I can fill with beautiful colours!

I love... Coconut & Cream — I love… Coconut & Cream

I do not need shower gel. At all. And yet, I always grab for it when I see it at a swap. Why? Maybe because I always considered shower gel as so unnecessarily expensive in stores that I really don’t want to pay for it again any time soon. I love shower gel, and this smells wonderful, but it’s gone to the back of my “to use” pile of shower gels. I’m sure I’ll get to it… at some point. lol

One of my favourite YouTubers (StrwberrySweet – mostly does Project Pans) panned one of these Josie Maran Argan Infinity Creamy Lip & Cheek Oil relatively recently, and I wanted to see what they were all about. My initial reaction is that I’m not super keen on the scent of them, but that it wore well and looked good!

This Boscia Intensifying Moisture Pack + is sitting in my medicine cabinet and while I’m writing this up I realize I haven’t even got a clue as to whether this is a facial cleanser or a moisturizer. Heh.

I’ve harped on about my problems with eyeshadow primers before so I won’t bore you with the details other than to say I love trying new ones. Benefit‘s Air Patrol is adorable looking and I’m excited to see how this one holds up!

Aveenon Fresh Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer — Aveeno Fresh Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer

I love Aveeno‘s skincare products and I’ve been using them for the last… 14 years. Eek. Anyway, I haven’t tried out their Fresh Essentials range so I’m looking forward to using this one.

Vitabath - Sweet Pink Peppermint — Vitabath – Sweet Pink Peppermint

More shower gel! I got sucked in by the scent of Vitabath‘s Sweet Pink Peppermint – it’s more of a Christmasy scent, so I’ll probably bust it out in November.

MWAHAHAHAH!!!!! The Body Shop‘s Satsuma scent has been one of my favourite scents throughout my entire life and yet… my husband doesn’t like the scent of it. I haven’t repurchased it since I used my last big tub up of the body butter… but now I have another one. 😀

NYC‘s Liquid Liner has been touted as one of the best matte black liquid liners at the drugstore and I hadn’t gotten around to picking it up! Initial reaction: DEFINITELY matte, DEFINITELY black… but I’m not in love with the way the tip of the brush is cut. Hmmm… maybe I’ll just cut it myself.

No one wanted this Misslyn nail polish in 756… which was great for me since I wear this kind of silver disco polish on my toenails 24/7 so picked this one up since I’ve never tried a Misslyn polish before.

I know NOTHING about this B Kamins brand… but the body lotion says “Maple” on it. It, however, smells nothing like maple, so I was totally duped. 😐

BH Cosmetics - Galaxy Chic — BH Cosmetics – Galaxy Chic

/GASP

I couldn’t believe someone brought this to the swap. I had lusted over this Galaxy Chic palette years ago when BH Cosmetics released it, but never bought it because like everything else in the makeup world… you become so inundated with products you end up buying some, and not others. The colours, the marbling, the names of the colours… everything about this palette makes me so, SO happy. I’ve used it twice now and love the shadows. Not a matte in sight though, so it’s not a standalone palette.

A new mascara for me to try out: The Maybelline Lash Sensational. I’ve still got a lot of mascara left in my currently opened tubes, so it’ll be a while before I bust into this one.

I’m not too familiar with Etude House‘s makeup, so I was excited to see a few items by them. This is essentially one of those matte lipstick crayons. I like it, but I don’t love it.

Not tried this one yet… this is by Etude House as well and I think it’s just for lips.. but may be for cheeks as well. It’s still sitting in my “To Use” pile!

Coloured Raine - Electric Raine — Coloured Raine – Electric Raine

Oh wow. Okay… I had heard about Coloured Rained via NikkieTutorials on YouTube, but never bought any. BUT THIS IS AMAZING! IT’s nowhere near as drying as the Colour Pop liquid lipsticks – instead this one is so much more comfortable on me lips. I may need more…

Clip - Lipnicure in Trouble Peach — Clip – Lipnicure in Trouble Peach

Unfortunately, Clio‘s Lipnicure was a straight “into the garbage” item. It applied patchily and then just really poorly. To the point where I removed it mid-day at work and it was a disaster to remove. I threw it straight into the trash. 🙁

This one astonished me. Too Faced‘s Loganberry La Creme lipstick was discontinued about a year ago and I was never able to get my hands on it. Imagine my surprise that someone would want to get rid of it! YESSSS!

THEFACESHOP - Face Mask Aloe — THEFACESHOP – Face Mask Aloe

A face mask via THEFACESHOP. This’ll be my first time using anything by THEFACESHOP.

A brow kit from Annabelle that has turned out to be wayyy too dark for me, but it has worked when I need to darken up my eyebrows to look more like someone else (see my The 100 Wanheda/Clarke tutorial).

Another Annabelle brow product! Brow Show is light enough for me so this has actually been working out and it’s really easy to use. Not enjoying the huge size of the pencil, but the product is nice!

And we’re done! I’m doing pretty well conserving my money for IMATS New York, and these swaps are definitely helping me to keep products rotating in and out of my collection1

Too Faced Spring 2016 La Creme Lip Swatches

If there’s something you know I like, it’s a good Too Faced collection!

Too Faced Spring 2016 La Creme Lipsticks: Topless, Double Bubble, Mean Girls, WHAM!, Berry Naughty, Ursula and Unicorn Tears

I’ve got seven out of the 10 new shades in the La Creme lipstick range and wanted to try them all on. Let’s go!

Too Faced Spring 2016 La Creme Lip Swatches

Topless is a beautiful peachy nude – this is a nude that I love seeing on myself.

Double Bubble is the Barbie pink of the collection.

Mean Girls is a slightly deeper pink chockful with glitter.

WHAM! surprised the hell out of me. The tube looks like a total glitter bomb, but I LOVE how this looks on me. The glitter doesn’t really transfer as much as I expected – instead I’m left with a gorgeous glossy berry shade.

Another stunner! Berry Naughty is quite plum/purple and unlike anything I own. I tend to steer towards the red-berry shades, but this is sooo nice.

Another killer one. Ursula is a deep plum with a lot of glitter in it but it doesn’t look like a glitter bomb on the lips which I highly appreciate.

EDIT: I wore Ursula to work the next day and encountered problems with the glitter in the product moving around on my lips. The colour is still gorgeous, but I’d recommend wearing a similar coloured lip liner all over your lips and then applying this shade on top.

Unicorn Tears is the most unique shade out of the whole launch. It’s blue in the tube but turns silvery purple on my lips. It definitely has a lot of duochrome in the shade, which can make it look a bit chunky on the lips. This would be best for layering on top of other lipsticks to give them more dimension. (Although I kind of want to wear it to work as is and see who comments on it!)

Final Thoughts

I was a little apprehensive about some of the shades because I had seen that Too Faced was starting to add glitter into the some of their La Cremes which kiiind of didn’t make any sense to me (I mean… La Creme does not mean “with glitter”!). I’m so happy to be proven totally wrong. The only shade that had noticeable glitter was Mean Girls, the other two (Ursula and WHAM!) are beautiful with the addition of the glitter particles (and they also don’t feel super chunky which I appreciate).

These new shades are just as amazing as the original shades I have from the line and it was really nice to see Unicorn Tears being added into the mix. It’s a “strange” colour, sure, but part of what makes Too Faced such a fun brand is that they add whimsical touches onto their products. It may not always be conventional, but it definitely keeps it intriguing!

Out of this launch, WHAM!, Berry Naughty, Topless, and Ursula are my favourites. And I’m currently eyeballing 9021Oh (not pictured above) which I may “need”. Let me know what shades were your favourite!

As I was putting together this roundup of looks, I started to realize just how much I’ve been using my Makeup Geek shadows lately. I mean, I use them a lot on a regular basis, but three out of the five looks are solely Makeup Geek in here!

I did this for a YouTube video tutorial but had to repost it here because I know not everyone has the time for videos (I’ll continue to repost my video tutorial looks on the blog as time goes on).

Eyes
(using the Viseart 08 Editorial Brights palette) I first covered my lid with NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk and then:

MAC‘s Cork in the crease.
The yellow shade from the palette on the inner third of the lid.
The orange on the middle of the lid.
The red on the outer half of the lid.
The lime green on the inner corner of the lid.
(also listed as 5) MAC‘s Blanc Type to highlighter the brow bone.

I applied the light blue to the middle of my lower lash line and the purple to the outer section of the lower lash line. I created the wing with Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and tightlined my water lines with Marc Jacobs‘ Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer. I coated my lashes with Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara and applied House of Lashes Bombshell falsies.

Although I love the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix palette, I’ve not been using it because I was trying to work through a bunch of other palettes. I said enough was enough, and went back to it for it this look!

Eyes
(Using the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix palette) I first applied NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk to my lid, then:

Misfit on the inner third of the lid.
Synth on the middle of the lid.
Dark Wave on the outer corner.
(numbers are screwed up, sorry) Vinyl on the inner corner (to the right of 1).
Ignore this one… I haven’t a clue if I put anything on my brow bone.

Echo is lining the outer half of my lower lash line. I coated my lashes with Make Up For Ever‘s Smoky Stretch mascara.

This palette needs little to no introduction as far as I’m concerned!

For the uninitiated, however, this is the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette and it’s the third iteration in Too Faced‘s chocolate-smelling Chocolate Bar lineup of palettes. This one features more of a pink theme (in the shadows and in the packaging), but overall it’s still a very neutral themed palette (which will make a lot of people happy!). Want swatches? I was excited to use the pink shade in the palette and wanted to create a very dramatic look with it. I made sure to use all three pink shades included in the palette because I wanted to see if it would be overkill (I don’t feel it is).

I lined my lower lash line with Cotton Candy (inner half) and Bordeaux (outer half). I created the wing with Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and applied Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch to my lashes.

Bronzer & Highlighter: Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow (both shades)

I lined the outer half of my lower lash line with Sephora‘s Diamond eyeliner in Phat Rock and applied Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch to my lashes.

Although I did this look last, this look features my absolute favourite shade in the entire palette: Molasses Chip. It’s the kind of reflective pale bronze that’s creamy and easy to use and so, so beautiful on the lid.

Eyes

Cashew Chew through the top of the crease.
Mocha through the crease to deepen it up.
Molasses Chip applied wet all over the lid, on the inner corner and on the inner half of the lower lash line.
Bordeaux on the outer half of the lid and on the outer half of the lower lash line.
Divinity on the brow bone.

I applied Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara to my lashes.
