Too Faced Melted Chocolate (Review + Swatches)

Too Faced Melted Chocolate Lipsticks

Oh Too Faced. You get me every. single. time.

Too Faced Melted Chocolate Lipsticks
Too Faced Melted Chocolate Lipsticks

This past December, Too Faced released some additional shades to their Liquified Long Wear Lipstick range (the Melteds), except this time they did it with a chocolatey twist!

Staying true to the ever-raging 90s trend, these chocolate Melteds are quite brown on the lips, but they each have a twist of colour. I picked up all of the “regular” ones: Chocolate Cherries, Chocolate Milkshake and Chocolate Honey. They also released three shades in the metallic version of the Melted formula, but I’m not a fan of their reflective consistency, so I opted not to get those. (Edit: I got them a few months later! Check out that review here.)

For those unfamiliar with the Melted formula, it’s considered a liquid lipstick since it is quite fluid. However, they do not dry down to the “dry as a bone” matte formula that most liquid lipstick possess. They are richly pigmented and are quite glossy on application, but will dry down to a soft and comfortable matte formula within roughly an hour. You can either re-apply the product to bring back the glossiness, or just keep wearing it as is (which is my preferred method). I do not find them drying on the lips.

Aside from the obvious colour selection, these are called Melted Chocolate because they do in fact smell like chocolate! The scent is not quite the same as the Chocolate Bar palettes – to me, the Melted Chocolates do smell a lot more artificial. It’s like it’s flavoured with chocolate on top of the usual smell of the Melted formula (which is kind of a non-scent to me to begin with). That being said, it’s not offensive to my nose and the scent/taste does completely fade on the lips. The wear time is equal to all the other Melteds I own (six hours or more, easily), although Chocolate Honey did feel a bit more liquid than the other two. Amazingly, Chocolate Cherries did NOT stain my lips, even after wearing it for five hours straight.

  • Chocolate Cherries is the darkest of the lot, and while it does look quite red-brown in the swatch, in practice I feel like it looks a lot more black-brown on my lips. (In the same way that Melted Villain looks black on me.)
  • Chocolate Milkshake has a hint of pink added into the pale brown. I do get far less pink payoff on my lips though.
  • Chocolate Honey is what I’d call the true medium brown of the lot. I was anticipating this giving me poo lips, but I’m actually quite pleased how much it does look like melted milk chocolate!

Final Thoughts

It’s no secret that I’ve been in love with the Melted formula by Too Faced for quite some time. (You can see me swatch the entire Too Faced Melted collection here!) And these Chocolate additions have not shaken my love for the formula. If you like the colours and are looking for a comfortable lipstick to wear, you cannot go wrong with these. Absolutely two thumbs up from me!

Too Faced Melted Chocolate lipsticks can be purchased for $25 CAD each on Sephora.ca, or for $20 USD each on TooFaced.com.

What’s On My Face – Volume 44

Alright, it’s been a while since I’ve done a roundup of looks. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of pizzazz in my looks throughout December as I felt like I was eternally rushing around, so this roundup is going to include my actual New Year’s look, some guest posts and a suuuuper old look from June I still hadn’t posted yet. Enjoy!

201601_womf44_look1.1

So here’s what I actually wore on New Year’s Eve. We didn’t have extravagant plans (we ended up going to an arcade), but I wanted to at least have a splash of glitter on! I ended up applying false lashes later on, but didn’t get around to reshooting the pictures, so what you’re looking at is sans falsies. This look does use the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette, but I promise there’s a full Challenge Week coming up focusing on that palette soon!

  4. Divinity on the brow bone.

I applied Make Up For Ever Glitters in 13 to my lower lash line using some Too Faced Glitter Glue. I created the wing with Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and applied Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara to my lashes.

This look was completely focused on featuring Too Faced’s Melted Villain lipstick. Although it’s a dark purple, I have to admit that it mostly comes out looking black on me. that’s okay though! I love the colour and it’s NOT patchy! (And yes, I did wear this exact look to work that day!)

I looooved this look! I did this as a guest post for Up The Rollercoaster last month and just adored how the shots came out. I wasn’t sure how the cranberry tones in the shadows would work with a red lip and if I’m honest, I think it’s a LITTLE bit off, but the overall effect is WA-BAM!

^^ That right there’s a money shot. I’m so pleased with it! 😀

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie through the top of the crease.
  2. Makeup Geek Glamorous all over the lid.
  3. Makeup Geek Bitten on the outer half of the lid and through the crease. I also used Bitten to liner my lower lash line.
  4. Makeup Geek Corrupt to deepen up the outer corner.
  5. Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean to highlight the brow bone.
  6. I used some old MAC gold glitter flecks to add some sparkle to the inner corner. Any gold glitter will do!

I created the wing with Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and tightlined my upper water line with Marc Jacobs‘ Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer. I coated my lashes with essence‘s get BIG! lashes volume boost waterproof mascara and applied a pair of Noir Fairy false lashes by House of Lashes. My brows are filled in with Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade in Blonde.

Another guest post! (This time for Writing Whimsy.) I really love doing guest posts because it gives me an opportunity to be totally creative. Usually I’ll take a Saturday afternoon and spend a couple hours working on one. This is very different from my usual makeup roundups which are done almost exclusively as my daily work makeup (which doesn’t always afford me the luxury of playing around with glitter since I’m usually in a rush!).

Eyes

After priming my eyelids, I applied NYX‘s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Black Bean all over the lid and blended out the edges. Then:

  1. I deepened my almost non-existent crease (thanks hooded lids) with MAC‘s Cork.
  2. I covered the entire lid with Urban Decay‘s Blackout, making sure to blend it into Cork.
  3. I then patted on Lit Cosmetics’ glitter in Disco Diva using their glitter adhesive.
  4. MAC‘s Blanc Type is on the brow bone to even everything out.
  5. On the inner corner, I blended together Naked Cosmetics IV-05 and IV-03 and patted it on.

I created the inner corner point with Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper,  thinly lining my upper lash line with it as well. I tightlined my water lines with Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer and applied essence get big! lashes waterproof mascara to my lashes. I lined my lower lash line Lit Cosmetics Peacock glitter.

  • Highlighter: Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo #1 (highlighting shade)
  • Lips: Sephora Good Fairy lipgloss

Alright this one’s just super old. I had toyed with doing a Challenge Week for Laura Mercier‘s Artist palette, but I never got around to finishing it (likely something new and exciting caught my eye!). I did this look sometime in June of 2015.

Swatch Sunday: Too Faced – The little Black Book of Bronzers

Too Faced The little Black Book of Bronzers

There’s no better way to sample all of Too Faced‘s bronzers than by getting your hands on their bronzer wardrobe: The little Black Book of Bronzers. I think this was limited edition, although I see it go randomly in and out of stock on Sephora’s web site and on TooFaced.com.

Too Faced The little Black Book of Bronzers
Too Faced The little Black Book of Bronzers

To my knowledge, this includes every single bronzer that Too Faced carries in a full size format (oops, maybe not, I see Bronzed & Poreless on their site, but it’s not in this palette). To make everything even more appealing, three of them smell like chocolate!

What I Bought This Month – December 2015 Haul

Haul time! Here’s the makeup I amassed throughout December – many of them thanks to family members! <3

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons ($59 CAD)
Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons ($59 CAD)

I’ve become so obsessed with Too Faced that I actually got up at 4 am to order the Chocolate Bon Bons palette on launch day. No, I’m not kidding.

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons ($59 CAD)
Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons ($59 CAD)

And I’m glad I did it too because the palette promptly sold out by the end of the day! Unfortunately, it took a bit longer to get to me due to a hold up at the post office in the adjacent city being rammed with boxes, but hey, I’ve got it now! I’ve already done swatches which you can see here. A Challenge Week will be forthcoming, but I’m afraid you’ll have to wait till January for it!

Neutrogena Hydrating Wipes (~$9 CAD)
Neutrogena Hydrating Wipes (~$9 CAD)

Are you guys even interested when I buy makeup wipes? Here’s yet another package of Neutrogena Hydrating wipes – once again purchased when they were on sale.

Frozen Lip Balm (free - gift)
Frozen Lip Balm (gift)

This one was a joke gift in my stocking, but I had to include it anyway. Frozen lip balm! (And it’s not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be!) There’s tiny flecks of glitter in there as well!

Charlotte Tilbury - The Rebel
Charlotte Tilbury – The Rebel (gift)

Helllloooo gorrrrgeous! This is the Charlotte Tilbury The Rebel” quad. I’ve loved my Vintage Vamp quad so much that I wanted another one to add to my collection (pricey little buggers) and my husband was kind enough to gift me one!

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Lost Cherry (gift)
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Lost Cherry (gift)

Until now, I had held off trying out Charlotte Tilbury‘s Matte Revolution lipsticks because I just didn’t want to fall in love with a lipstick that costs almost $40! I put Lost Cherry on my wishlist and also got it as a gift. I loooove that colour!

Makeup Geek - Duochrome pigments + eyeshadows and a few random shadows
Makeup Geek – Duochrome pigments + eyeshadows and a few random shadows

And lastly, I put in an enormous Makeup Geek order in November and it only just arrived this month. (The USD exchange rate was not only brutal, but I also got drilled with a customs charge as well. Ugh.) I picked up the entire Duochrome pigment and eyeshadow bundle ($150 USD) and four of the normal shadows that I hadn’t gotten around to picking up yet (Baby Face, Morocco, Pixie Dust and Shore Thing – $6 USD each).

Tell me – what’s the one item you bought/received in December that you loved the most?

Travel Makeup Bag: Holiday 2015

Travel Makeup Bag: Holiday 2015

Yesterday, on Christmas Eve, we traveled from Toronto all the way over to Wisconsin for the holidays. We drove (well, I’m writing this in advance and yet I’m referring to myself in the future… so this is weird) the 11 hours or so it took to get to Wisconsin and brought the cats along with us. By the time you’re reading this on Christmas Day, we’ve hopefully made it safe and sound and I don’t want to strangle Kolme (she’s a howler when we travel). We’ll be staying with my husband’s family near Madison for Christmas and New Year’s, and I *pray* they get snow because Toronto sure doesn’t have any!

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow and Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow and Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons

Two of the palettes I’m bringing are the brand new Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons and my Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow and Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow and Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons

The Too Faced Bon Bons is a bit of a risk because I’ve barely played with the palette yet so I don’t really know what kind of looks I can come up with. It’s quite neutral which at least makes it fairly easy to play with while on vacation. The Charlotte Tilbury duo is going to be my only highlighter and bronzer on this trip. I like bringing more expensive products to use around Christmas time because it makes me feel kind of fancy. 🙂

Charlotte Tilbury Vintage Vamp
Charlotte Tilbury Vintage Vamp

The only other eyeshadows I’m bringing are in my Charlotte Tilbury Vintage Vamp quad. If you saw my makeup tutorial on Wednesday, you’ll know that I love pairing these kind of darker cranberry shades on my lids throughout the holidays!

House of Lashes falsies in Noir Fairy and their lash glue
House of Lashes falsies in Noir Fairy and their lash glue

And of course, what’s the holidays without some dramatic lashes? I’m bringing along my Houses of Lashes lash glue and a pair of their lashes in Noir Fairy. They’re already cut down to size since I’ve worn them before so I needn’t worry about trimming them while on vacation.

Illamasqua Skin Base in 6.5 and the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Illamasqua Skin Base in 6.5 and the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

I say this every time I bring foundation on vacation, but I’ll say it again regardless… I haven’t a clue if I’ll even wear these. I’m not generally in love with foundation as I find I just want to tear it off my face after about 8 hours or so (it has nothing to do with the foundations thesmelves, just the general feeling of having paint on my face). I like the Smashbox primer because it’s tiny and works well, and the Illamasqua Skin Base is lovely to wear but doesn’t get enough use in my collection so I thought I’d bring it along as well.

The Body Shop - Shimmer Spray in Silver
The Body Shop – Shimmer Spray in Silver

And what’s the holidays without a little bit of shimmer spray?? Smells like vanilla and spews out silver shimmer… I loooove it!

Clarins Rosy Nude, MAC Russian Red, Too Faced Melted Berry and Bite Beauty's Maple Agave Lip Mask
Clarins Rosy Nude, MAC Russian Red, Too Faced Melted Berry and Bite Beauty’s Maple Agave Lip Mask

I never ever feel like I bring enough lip products when I travel because I swear I’ll get there and wish I brought different items! My Clarins Rosy Nude is a perfect neutral shade for every day wear, MAC Russian Red is a holiday staple for me, as is my Too Faced Melted Berry. The Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask in Maple is along for the ride to keep my lips hydrated and because the scent is so stinking delicious!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper, H&M Beauty lip primer, Make Up For Ever Glitter (25), MAC Brick lip liner, Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel crayon in Blacquer and Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper, H&M Beauty lip primer, Make Up For Ever Glitter (25), MAC Brick lip liner, Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel crayon in Blacquer and Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch

Random assortment of items here… My Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper is a surefire liquid liner for all my travel purposes. I’ve got an H&M Beauty lip primer in there, a Make Up For Ever glitter (hello New Year’s!), MAC Brick lipliner, Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer and my favourite Make Up for Ever Smoky Stretch mascara.

201512_travelmakeupbag_blush

Another bit of a risk here… two medium to deep-toned blushes and no basic pink! Tarte Exposed has gotten a lot of love from me over the years (I’ve even hit pan on it!) and it a foolproof shade to match with the neutral eyeshadows I’ve packed. And of course, there’s my beloved Clinique Cola Pop. I can’t believe I haven’t worn the flower embossing down a bit more, I wear it constantly!

201512_travelmakeupbag2

And all of that is crammed into a medium sized Sephora makeup bag. Merry Christmas everyone!
